    WHAT TO DO IF YOUR WATER BREAKS… Woohoo! That means you’ll be meeting your baby SO soon! But wait- you might be wondering did my water break for real or am I just peeing myself? And how can I tell if my water broke for sure? In this video, I talk about how to gauge whether it’s really your water breaking or pee and 3 things to note: the amount and color of the water breaking during pregnancy and the smell of water breaking during pregnancy. These things will help cue yourself and your care provider in about whether you’re really leaking amniotic fluid or not.
    “But what if my water breaks before labor?” I’m so glad you asked, because in this video I explain several avenues and options mamas have water breaking before labor is the situation you’re facing. I help you answer what is a high leak in pregnancy, what to do if your water breaks, and whether it’s safe to wait for labor to begin if your water breaking before contractions occurs.
    By the end of this video, you’ll have answers from “What happens when my water breaks?” to “If my water breaks when should I go to the hospital?” and so many more in between!

    With my third baby I felt a pop and a ton of liquid came out. 2 hours later at the hospital the nurse said I had tested negative for amniotic fluid and that my water had not broke. She wanted to send me home. I was so upset because I knew it was my water breaking. I called my DR and she let me stay since it was my 3rd baby. It turned out the test was wrong and my son was born 3 hours later. These tests are not always accurate.

    I am the 6% 🤦‍♀️ First time mom here, I woke up at 2:45am to pee (again) and got out of bed and a huge gush hit the floor and I thought I peed myself, so I went to the bathroom, peed, stood up, boom another huge gush (like, grab the mop and bucket levels of gush). At this point I knew something was up, called the hospital and they told me to come in to get checked (it was early, I clearly woke up the nurse I was taking to, she definitely thought I was overreacting and just peed myself). Being the control freaks we are, my boyfriend mopped the floor, I made our bed, did a whole bunch of silly things before we left for the hospital (I was a little in denial the baby was coming, because it was 4 weeks early). Of course, this is December 23rd and where we live the roads are covered in ice and snow and on a good day we still live about 30 minutes from the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital it was around 4am (was already 3cm dilated and 100% effaced to my surprise), I didn’t actually feel any contractions until probably around 6am (with the help of pitocin), at 9am I was 6cm and the baby was in my arms at 10:45am. It was a whirlwind process and by the time my little guy decided to come, he was in a hurry so there was no time for any pain management but, overall, what a beautiful experience 💕

    We've been watching your videos for the whole pregnancy, and my wife just went into early labor last night at 38 weeks, first pregnancy. She skipped pre and early labor signs and suddenly seemed to be in transitional labor (2 minutes apart, strong surges, intense and couldn't speak, only 30 seconds rest). It turns out she was 4 cm dilated, not in transition. After 9 hours of labor overnight, suddenly the contractions went away, with waters still intact - and only 5 cm dilation after a grueling night. So confusing and disappointing. We were considering induction but read about the dangers, and I wasn't sure what to do - but this video reassured me that we can still wait because the waters are intact, so our clock hasn't started. We're waiting it out to see what happens next in the next 12 to 24 hours, and trying to stay moving and considering other ways to naturally induce. Please pray for a good delivery for us! And may God bless you for all the help you've given new parents like us.

    I wish I had seen this one 3 months ago! My water broke at 36 weeks. My first instinct was to stick to my birth plan of staying put and laboring at home until My contractions were in the 411 pattern. My first mistake was calling the hospital and listening to their demands that I come in and be induced. It definitely set off the classic chain reaction of events that led me to a traumatic c-section that resulted in me being put under for the surgery and missing my daughters first hour of life. Every step of the way I was made to doubt myself and my body but looking back they did my c-section right before shift change so I'm pretty sure they made me feel like a failure just so they could get home faster. But looking back I was told every step of the way that I was not in charge nor was I educated enough to make informed decisions. But that's not true had I stuck to my guns I could possibly have had the birth me and my baby deserved.

      The doctors are just trying to do what’s best for the baby.. it’s about the baby’s health not your preferences

    • @Romie926
      @Romie926 Před rokem +4

      @@Sbs349 agreed! A lot of women (usually first time moms) have misconceptions on what labor exactly is. My niece was so adamant that she was not getting an epidural because-- she wanted to “remember her daughters birth” and not be “out of it” and all “drugged up”. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I kept trying to tell her that’s not what it is… it’s basically (a VERY basic way to describe it, I am NOT a doctor) but basically like novicane for your lower body, from belly down. (Atleast that’s what it felt like with each of my three kids). You’re just numb but a lot of women assume you’re “drugged up”. Needless to say she ended up getting an epidural lol! Now as far as mothers precious “birth plans”, they will most likely fall apart when your labor actually starts. As you said, the doctors are doing whatever is best for the BABY. They do not care about your birth plan. Which is why a lot of people will tell you to discuss birth plan with your doctor at one of your appts, BEFORE labor starts. Atleast then they will have an idea of what you want before everything starts and moves so fast. Also, the birth of your child is absolutely the most memorable moment of moms lives but all the other stuff (birth plan, etc…) are going to be completely forgotten and/or not cared about anymore once you have that beautiful baby. None of that matters. Sorry for the rant. It was just nice to see your (common sense) comment lol! First time moms can be very annoying 😂😂😂 lol jk (kinda) but it’s true and I’m sure most people would agree with that! I do understand their fear and over planing but when they have this super specific birth plan and act as if they know and are so sure what is going to happen during and after labor and delivery makes me so mad. (I am aware this is a dumb thing to be mad about)… and maybe “mad” isn’t the right word. Annoyed would be a better word to describe it. So yes, that annoys me so much! And it’s mostly because (usually) the women just sines off so pretentious about it as if they know sooo much about labor and delivery and they’re sooo much better because they’re doing a home birth or all natural, no drugs etc… I could be completely wrong, but it def comes off that way!
      Ok-- sooo sorry for this long ass rant 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ 😂

    Thanks for this video! I had a high leak during my last pregnancy that went undetected for an entire 7 days until I delivered! Meaning, I let my care providers know right away but unfortunately was told that I was likely leaking urine. One reason for that was that I had 2 false negative results with those swabs that you mentioned. The 2nd one came at the hospital shortly before I delivered… the nurse at that same visit sent the sample to the lab after she did an exam and only then were they able to confirm that it was amniotic fluid.

I was exactly 36 weeks pregnant with my first and I felt a pop and had a huge gush of fluid with contractions starting about 15 mins later. Was at the hospital an hour from the time my water broke and my contractions were 2 mins apart and I was 6cm dilated upon arrival. I had my daughter naturally (didn't have a choice in the matter because it was going so quickly) 5 hours later from the time my water broke to the moment she was placed on my stomach, with 1 hour of pushing. I had been having prodromal labor for about 2 weeks and had braxton hicks since 22 weeks. It was a crazy delivery!

    After 5 babies, I only had once where my water had spontaneously broke and it was towards the end of labor. The other four births, I asked to have the bag ruptured when I got to around 9 cm and pretty much immediately after that, I was ready to start pushing. My last baby was born a week ago and I asked the midwife to break it and that as soon as she did, I would be ready to push. I don't think she believed me but, sure enough, baby was born less than 30 minutes later.

  • @amberleaf7
    @amberleaf7 Před 2 lety +15

    I'll share my story for statistics. I just gave birth a week ago. My water started leaking "unnoticeably" a week before, BUT it wasn't leaking per se but I just saw white discharge (probably vernix) when I peed. I couldn't understand why... Then my waters started to leak (enough to wet my pants, 1-2 tablespoons easily) and then I saw that white discharge and realized it was amniotic fluid. The leaking was pretty constant, and I was wondering if labor will start in time. I only had a random light contraction every few hours at that point, could even be Braxton-Hicks. 25 hours later at night, more regular contractions began, and I was super happy that labor has started. 8 hours later baby was born. All is perfectly well. So mine took 25 hours between the leaking and onset of labor. (Even though some tiny leaking started even earlier.) I probably leaked out 2 glasses or so in that 25 hours. Also, water never "broke" during labor, once the head was blocking the way. And I never heard any loud "pop" :) Videos like this are helpful to wait and see. Oh, and it was a home birth. Baby #2. With baby #1 contractions came first.

    @jaquirox6579 Před rokem +5

    Watching this video…. Just gave me the answers I’ve searched for for over 6 years.
    Apparently, my midwife and Doula both did nothing correctly. They loomed a 24 hour ticking time bomb over my head, the second my “water broke”. But all I had was a little trickle, and a little trickle upon standing up immediately. They came to my house and stared at me from my couch the entire day. They helped me with nothing. They advised nothing. And they never even checked to verify if it WAS ACTUALLY amniotic fluid or not! But boy did they loom that 24 hour clock over me!!
    My labor did begin a few hours later on its own, and I got to about 7cm within that 24 hour period, despite my “care team” doing everything they possibly could do, to skyrocket my fear, and anxiety. But then at that 24 hour mark they spoke to me as if it were a dire emergency, they told me I HAD TO transport to hospital and transfer care to the doctors. They gave me the impression that me and my baby were about to both die. I just cried in fear.
    At the hospital the treated me like a crazy tree hugging loon, for wanting to have my baby at home normally. And immediately told me that I needed an “emergency C-section for FTP”. My “care team” did zero to advocate for me, or help me, all they did was continue to stare at me in silence, like a zoo creature for their watching. I was so upset, I told the doctors and nurses that I came to the stupid hospital per their requirements and now I was going to try to continue to labor there.
    They continued to push for the csection, I continued to say no. They said fine, but we HAVE TO put you on petosin. They plugged me into petosin and set it on 6.5. I went into another dimension with contractions. And the 3 nurses, and surgeon, and my “care team”, plus my husband, all just stood around in my room watching me, as the zoo creature they treated me as.
    My dialation did not progress. They continued to threatened and encourage the csection non stop. They raised my petocin to 8.5. They stared at me and watched me. They threatened. At about my 34 hour mark the surgeon came in and got very very serious, he told me that my time was up, and that I had to get the emergency C-section now. He expressed that me and baby were basically going to die any moment if we didn’t. Which btw, I had a mobile fetal monitor on, and both me and baby reflected 100% healthy and normal this entire time. But they told me I had to. They told me we were about to die. I cried. I said “but I don’t want you to chop my entire body in half”. They hooked me up to a million cords and IVs, and wheeled me to surgery.
    The spinal block didn’t work the first time, so they figured what the heck, and gave me another. I had massive negative side effects from the double drugging postpartum. They cut my body open, and pulled my baby out, whom was inside the north canal, so they had to do extra pushing and shoving on my lifeless body. Baby boy came out perfect average sized, and perfectly healthy in every single way. No infections for either of us either.
    How do I find a legitimate care team now, after all of that happening on round 1? I paid that midwife $4k cash, for her to do nothing but hinder my labor and birth. I need help to stay focused, and I’m going to buy your course to educate myself more. But it would be so great to have a real midwife or doula, to help guide me and protect me. ♥️🙏🏽

      Sounds so similar to what I went through, 41wks3days gushing fluid, no contractions, went in, they induced me, used petocin, fear mongered me saying baby may be too big to make it through vag, anesthesiologist didn't listen, epidural was entering too much on right side, epidural only worked on my right side, created pain imbalance, baby heart rate started to get abnormal from feeling pain imbalance too, more fear monger to get c sect, then baby pooped inside, thats when they demanded c section, baby swallowed/inhaled it, I missed about a whole week of babies first life outside womb, nicu was rude unintelligent tyrants, even had bleeding diaper rash from their neglect, this was all at uofl hospital, baby developed eczema 1.5 months old, has stomach digestive issues, from not being exposed to microbes, but probiotic drops are helping, I just watched a video about how some hospitals use tampon type things in vag w/ csection moms and wipe the fluid over them and it helps this should be done at all hospitals.

    I had PROM, had tested GBS positive and delayed going to the hospital as late as possible. I went in around 7 hours after and I still hadn't gone into labor naturally so they gave me cervidil, and I progressed only 1 cm in about 4 hrs. I had a non-reassuring fetal heart rate that kept dropping with every contraction. So then they gave me pitocin which made the contractions come hard and close together but I still wasn't progressing- mind you I had to be on continuous monitor and was told I couldn't move at all which made it very hard to get through the contractions. I ended up have a c-section about 19-20 hours after my water broke. And I did end up getting an infection in the uterine lining which resulted in me being hospitalized for 2 weeks post c-section during COVID. It was such a traumatizing experience. I keep wondering what went wrong and how this could have been better- should I have gone earlier to the hospital? Should I have put garlic cloves and probiotic pills in my panties?? I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd and really hoping for a VBAC but my last experience continues to haunt me. I wish I had a better mindset about getting a c-section. I keep telling myself that whatever happened is unlikely to happen again.

Now I was getting positive tests at home for 2 weeks I thought I was just starting out though on my pregnancy journey . I previously went to get blood and urine done and they said the levels was 0 I'm not pregnant tried saying it was due to cyst why all my tests were positive which was already disproved because last time I went in they gave me c.t. scan. They saw nothing no cysts. My tests stopped showing suddenly. I even considered chemical or miscarriage I've had a miscarriage I know I passed tissue then which I haven't passed anything . I seen something about hook effect so I water my tests down like 75% water 25% urine and they show lines. My hospitals are not helpful here I'm not sure what to do.

      Just try to educate yourself as MUCH as you possibly can. READ. RESEARCH. GET A DOULA! Ask LOTS of questions regarding ANY treatment (interference) they are offering. For instance with the pitocin, the questions should be WHY do I need pitocin?? Is the pitocin necessary? Will it present an emergency situation if I don't take it? MAKE them SLOW DOWN AND LISTEN TO YOU. Make them ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS. And if they cannot PROVE to you that it is a medically necessary intervention to prevent harm to you or your baby--REFUSE IT AND STAND YOUR GROUND!!!---That should be a general rule of thumb when delivering in a hospitalized environment---if they cannot prove that whatever they're trying to give you or do to you is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY--REFUSE, REFUSE, REFUSE!!!
