    70's kid here. In regards to TEM's (Ten Eyed Man) origins: The way I remember it, Skyjackings were constantly in the News back in the 70's (but not to wartime Vietnam! Freaking loon). Between that and all the Wartime Vietnam references, the writers seemed to really want 70's Batman to be "hip" and "topical". But this was probably after Denny O'neil Batman revamp so that might explain all that. They were trying to keep up a theme.
    It also occurrs to me that the Ten Eyed Man is both a Vietnam Vet and a Mercenary. If he was a Marvel character he'd of had a series of mini series in the 80's.

    This reminds me of the old Roger Corman movie "X, the man with the X-ray eyes", about a scientist who tests special eyedrops on himself that cause his eyes to at first see in X-ray, but eventually get more and more powerful until it's insinuated that he may be seeing Lovecraftian horrors beyond our reality. Just being able to have x-ray vision would sell that "Deadliest man alive" angle they're constantly going on about as you'd be able to identify weaknesses on the fly that others would not.

    I see great potential in TEM. Less eyes on his fingers and more vision through his fingers. Training himself to focus through one or two to help aim a gun or pick a lock. Maybe a version working with the Calculator. Given access to the security cameras of Gotham. Watching multiple to help pinpoint where Batman and company are so criminals could know when it was safer to break into places.
    Or, have him blame Batman at first out of shock, but slowly realize his mistake. Maybe become the Bat's eyes like above. Or as a Private Eye. Have him slip into investigating the more surreal or supernatural mysteries of Gotham. Looking into the shadows where thing go bump in the night.

    When people started talking about how the Suicide Squad movie revitalized some of the d-list villains, I joked about how it was only a matter of time before the Ten Eyed man got his glow-up. Well, now I just need to wait and see what the writers do with Baby-Face, Mrs. Man-Face, Hammer-Toes, and the rest of the cast-offs that got an appearance in BatB. Also, I REALLY want a Haunted Tank movie, though I'm not sure they really CAN do that, what with the ghost being a Confederate officer...

    I love quirky villains! As for weakness, for a reboot I'd say that he doesn't hurt an eyefinger when he covers it, he just cannot see with that finger. Make the "eyes" mystic tattoos, and ones that he had to train to actually utilize (so not just anyone can get them). I like the idea that the eyes do different things besides seeing (including maybe seeing through things, so...)

    • @ccggenius
      @ccggenius Před 2 lety +1

      I feel like going the mysticism route would just make him more generic. There's already plenty of comic characters with an array of powers, and I don't see how making the "eyes" window dressing would improve him. Personally, I think he's low tier enough that his fingers being an extremely sensitive weak point is unnecessary to some extent, I'd say leave the visual weakness, but not the "fingers are as delicate as eyeballs" bit. Really lean in to his martial prowess, and end up with a character that's as dangerous as Daredevil, and as nutty as Crazy Quilt. And... I basically just described Moon Knight didn't I... Guess that's another reason to keep the "science gone weird" angle as opposed to magic.

      Mnnn, yes, 1994's "The Shadow".
      Now, The Shadow is known for many other things, like being the thing which ten-eyed-man desperately needs to be, but that particular movie was "an attempt to make Batman fight a lovecraftian horror".
      It remained an attempt.
      It's too bad the professional creators botched Ten Eyed Man's delivery so bad. Ten Eyed Man more irritates me only by existing, since it seems SO conceptually half-assed. It really seems they never went back to the drawing board and started from scratch, where they could have reassessed what his deal is, WHY he is necessary and what new does he bring. How important are the fingertip eyes relly? Why not "seeing through his entire skin"?
      My immediate idea would be to scrap that and rework it into a theme of man who "sees" everything, who understands everything, but only has a conception for knowledge through the idea of "seeing is believing". This would also mean he can't explain anything, because he can only show by example and nobody else has the vision needed to understand what he sees. And so, instead of being jittery, sleep deprived, in that super lazy spooky maniac trope, I would make him a pragmatist who has given up on explaining anything, and only driven by "I'll MAKE them SEE" kind of supervillain hubris. As a twist I would do it less like Dr. Doom and more, misguidedly sympathetic. One-eyed man in the land of the blind.
      But I feel dirty even wasting the effort, because the fact is I have no clue if that aligns at all WHY they wanted to create this character in the first place. And so THIS character doesn't need to be Ten Eyed Man, either.

    This is a little paradoxical, because while I do think a darker interpretation of the Ten-Eyed Man works, the original concept of 'oh god he literally has EYES on his HANDS' is actually way creepier than whatever they're doing in the present-day.

    What if they weren’t necessarily eyes but like sort of ‘antennae’ that could perceive different forms of reality. And had some form of their own personalities. Like having an evil mischievous eye that could see how to kill people, one that will see if people are lying, one that sees the future 10secs ahead but is doubtful of itself so can’t be trusted. Idk but like when they’re covered with a special material they shut off so he can sleep and control his sanity otherwise the different personalities drive him crazy.

  • @thejohnnyjonesvillaincolle1777

    My idea for ten eyed man would be to give him ten robotic eyes that can all float around him and maybe have like lasers or something seems better than having them on your fingers

  • @nathanl8622
    @nathanl8622 Před 2 dny

    If each of his fingertips is an eye, I imagine it'd just be a matter of learning to hold things in a way that he he always has a hand or a couple fingers free to see with. That could actually be really cool--an artist could get really creative depicting the way he uses his hands, especially with the contortionist angle.
    I like the idea of the character a lot, I think the key is to treat the finger eyes as something strange and disconcerting instead of trying to push it as a genuinely strong superpower.

  • @stanleyteriaca2184
    @stanleyteriaca2184 Před 2 lety +1

    It should be noted that the Ten Eyed Man doesn't actually "see" through his finger, but instead has his sense of touch enhanced at the fingertip points. It has enhanced his touch to the point that it serves as eyes. He can't tell you what color something is but he can still get a sensation by waving his hands in front of him about where things are.
    Anything else is just silly.
