    Considered their "beginner" model, Donner's DST-100 is a great entry point into the Donner DST line of electric guitars.
    What it lacks in some of the details, like a split coil bridge pickup and vintage tuners, it more than makes up for in playability and exceptional construction. A little bit of setup work is needed to really bring out its best, but this is a good addition to anyone's hardware section, and a great choice to start out as a new player, as you won't want to replace it within six months!
    The guitar ships in a gig bag, and includes an instrument cable, mini amp, picks, tuner, capo, extra strings, and a strap...everything you need to get started.
    And it sounds great too!

    I dig these videos on "budget" guitars. Not everybody can afford an F or G, even their budget lines are priced based on the name on the head stock. (and shape)
    I almost pulled the trigger on a DST-400 when it could be had for $149.99 USD, now it's $259.99 only a couple months later! 😮
    Kicking myself in the backside for hesitating, but I did get a nice Donner sunburst Tele for a good price.
    Great channel, just subbed.

      Thanks for the sub! Yeah keep an eye out for the sales, which they have fairly often, as well as extra discount codes. You can get extra discounts on Amazon events too.
      The 400 at 259 is still a great guitar for the price.

    Hello, Im new to guitar and I really want to learn electric guitar. Can this guitar play all kind of song depending on how you set it up? And can you also connect it to a Cuvave?

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi, and welcome to the world of guitar!
      Yes, this guitar will play whatever you want to play through it. It isn't about setting up the guitar, which has to do with things like the string height and making sure the strings are intonated correctly. It's about what you play on the guitar, and what you play it through. This guitar in particular does not have a bridge pickup that splits, so you have a full-time humbucker in the bridge position. The bridge itself is not a floating tremolo system like a Floyd Rose, so there is some limitation there as well. But overall, this will play rock, metal, country, blues, pop...whatever.
      All electric guitars will connect to any effect pedal you want. The mini amp that comes with it isn't the best for pedals though.
      Hope this helps! I'm working on a short course right now that introduces the electric guitar, how pedals work, and how to set up your rig for different styles.

    Complete noob here! How do you change the sound of the guitar ? Other than from the guitar itself? Do you have it connected to the computer and load up different presets? If that’s even a thing? Thank for the video great reviews !

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před 7 měsíci +1

      So, that's a complex question, but for THIS rig I'm plugged into an interface that connects to my computer via USB. This feeds the guitar signal into my DAW (digital audio workstation -- I use Reaper). I use a VST plugin or amp sim to get the tones. In this video, I'm using the Humble plugin by ML Sound Lab, and I have three different presets that come with it, each recording on a different track. The presets include different levels of effects (the reverb and delay you hear the first time) and gain (the overdrive and distortion on the second and third amp sections).
      In a live rig or amp, you would switch between a clean tone and an overdriven or distorted tone by either switching to a "lead channel" or adding more gain to the tone.

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před rokem +1

      This is a good instrument to learn on, and does come with a mini amp for practicing if you don't want to invest too much in extra gear. If you think you'll want to commit a little longer, try the DST-152 (see my review on that one too), as it's a bit higher quality for about the same price. But if price is an issue and this is still on sale, you'll do well with the 100 while you get your start.

  • @fchz99
    @fchz99 Před 2 lety +6

    I have the same guitar. DST-100. When I play it with the mini amp, I don’t get the same tone. Can you suggest how I can get the same tones as what you’ve demonstrated, please?

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před 2 lety +5

      The mini amp has a three inch speaker and is I think 3 or 5 watts; literally the smallest amp you can get without it being a headphone speaker. It's great for practicing or for learning on, or even just working out songs, but you're not going to get a big sound or nice round tone out of it.
      So to get these tones you'll need a bigger amp, probably a 1x12 combo amp. My favourite is the Peavey Bandit 112, but there are similar models by Marshall, Fender, Boss, Vox, Supro, Orange, Blackstar...really, you just need to try a bunch.
      The EXACT tones in use here I got by connecting the guitar via a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2 3rd Gen interface (amzn.to/3IXWDEU ) to my computer, where I use Reaper (www.reaper.fm/ ) to record (my monitor headphones are these ones: amzn.to/3z0fOcz ). The EXACT tone you're hearing is using the Humble plugin amp sim by ML Sound Lab (ml-sound-lab.com/pages/amped-humble ).

    hi im unsure if you'll see this but recently ive been getting into bass as ive always loved how it sounds and i was thinking of buying this one, im still learning about guitars etc. and have never used one lolol but they've really interested me recently and i want to learn. i do have a couple questions if you happen to see this! what is a humbucker and do i need to buy one, should i replace the strings or are the ones they come with fine to use (i saw someone say too but idk the first place to start w doing that haha) and is the amp that comes with the kit ok too use, for now im really just planning to pick up bass as a hobby and have fun with it so i don't need anything too amazing sounding but id like to spend my money wisely regardless!! :) very good review though i liked it your channel is nice keep up the work :)

    • @woodsnstrings
      @woodsnstrings  Před rokem

      Wow that's a handful...probably better asked of a teacher, or taking one of my courses. But...
      1. This is a guitar, not a bass. If you want to play the bass, don't buy this instrument.
      2. A humbucker is a kind of pickup that's made of two single coil pickups with reversed magnets. The reversing of the magnets means they cancel out each other's noise signal, causing them to "buck the hum." Humbuckers are usually warmer sounding, and have a little bit higher output.
      3. No, you don't need to buy one. It depends on how much distortion you're using (it won't be much on the bass) and what kind of sound you're going for. And what's on an instrument that you really like.
      4. If you're brand new, you don't need to replace the strings on a new instrument right away. It's usually set up to perform well with the strings that come from the factory.
      5. Go to my Amazon or Donner links in the description and search for their bass guitar (DPJ-100 or DPB-510). It has four strings, but it doesn't come with an amp. There is a selection of small bass amps on those sites as well that are quite affordable and pretty decent for a beginner.
      Good luck!
