It's something like trying to drive the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 on a roller-coaster, only there are no steel tracks to keep you from slithering off the pavement and ending up in a flaming heap of 540-horsepower Mustang.
You can't even see where you're going, really. Hard on it, the GT500's rear tires begin spinning just as you can see nothing but sky in the windshield. You're on top of the hump at the entrance to Infineon Raceway's Turn 6, and as your stomach and both right-side tires go weightless, you start a long, long dive to the left, sliding sideways all the way down the hill and around the 180-degree corner.
The Shelby GT500 is so torqued up with the cornering force from the low-profile 19-inch tires and the drive from the supercharged V8 that you can practically hear the welds popping in the chassis. But something is different this time - palms are not slick with sweat, tires are not threatening to let go at the most inopportune moment and steering left in order to go right is a joy and not a reflex of self-preservation.
The 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 gets 2 mpg more on the EPA highway cycle this year. The Ford engineers are really proud of this. But every time we make another lap and slide down Turn 6, we have our doubts that fuel economy is what this car is about.
Serving Our Inner Adolescent
We're behaving like adults as the Ford engineers tell us all about the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500, even as we hear a couple of the cars making shake-down runs on the quarter-mile strip at Infineon Raceway a few hundred feet away. And in many ways, the GT500 itself is trying to act more like an adult, casting aside the muscle-bound character of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500.
As the Ford people tell us, they started with the limited-production 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, the exclusive (1,700 examples built) and revenue-enhancing (MSRP $79,995) Mustang produced last year. And aside from a few fewer Shelby badges (the KR had many to spare), the GT500 is like the KR in almost every way, except it's built at the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, rather than at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas.
You can tell as soon as you open the new GT500's hood, complete with hot-air extractors. The supercharged and intercooled DOHC 5.4-liter V8 with its truck-style iron block is still in place, but now it carries a conical air filter in its own sealed cold-air box behind the left-side headlight, an innovation that increases airflow while resisting power-sapping heat soak. For the GT500, this new cold-air intake required the migration of the iconic Cobra badge on the grille from the left side to the right side. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
My gf and I are proud owners of a 2010 :)
Still own it? any reliability issues? im thinking of getting one
@@ingaz6565 I bet the gf left, and took it with her. Lol..
instablaster.
I WATCHED THIS VIDEO COUNTLESS TIMES NEVER THINKING THAT I EVER GET ONE AND YEARS LATER I HAVE 4 SHELBYS 2 SUPER SNAKES AND MY 08 GT500 AND MY 07 SHELBY GT LOL DREAMS DO COME TRUE LOL.
@@CoronaJoe 😂 nope she's still here but the car has been long gone. Currently sitting on a 2016 GT 350 R, 2019 Ford Raptor which belongs to my gf, a 1986 Mustang SVO and a 2014 Raptor with its transfer case stuck on 2H.
I just bought one, and all I can say is: "Oh Hell Yea!".... This thing is a monster and worth every penny. I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally buy one. And for the guy that talked about the M3, I had one and there's no comparison between the two. Completely different animals. There's nothing like having this sort of power beneath your right foot to solve any hint of boredom!!
what a beast of ride. def goin on my xmas list.
Great video! Thanks from your friend Bill in Boston!
Awesome car!!!! Can't wait to see it in person!
they look more and more like the classics.. loving it

Man, this Mustang is sick. This has all you want styling, power, and handling.
Oh my gosh that engine sounds brilliant.
Great presentation of the 2010 Shelby GT 500 , I have a convertible 2010 Shelby GT 500 , performance white with red racing stripes !! Great vehicle I love it !!!
I got my 2010 GT 500 on Monday... Red with white stripes. It is simply the best car I have ever owned. I sold my 2007 GT 500 and I thought that one was great. This one is even more impressive. If you can get one......get one!!!

ive never been a fan of any mustang, but this one looks good and seems to perform well. great job ford.
Nice Rustang!

sexy exhaust note
unbelievable this car
Good god what beast! I want one so bad.
The last 6 seconds speak volumes!
Wow...just wow....
i love this car
thats true, and they still came up very short!!
in my whole life i've had 7 vehicles all sorts from ford to chevy to dodge to honda, there is just one maker that has brought me exactly what i wanted, a car that is actually fun to drive.
@eaglebilt
It's 550bhp for the 2011. Also has an aluminum block so it won't be as nose heavy.
OHV engines have the camshaft below the cylinder head, and thus use lifters and pushrods to help actuate the valves that are in the cylinder head. Compared to OHC engines, they allow for better packaging, but are less efficient compared to OHC designs due to increased valvetrain mass. To open a valve, the camshaft pushes on a lifter, which pushes a pushrod, which pushes on a rocker am, which opens the valve.
DAMN!! thats one badass car!!
@princeofroyalty2 It has a live rear axle, which means the power isn't actually getting put down until probably 3rd gear lol. The new mustang gt runs about the same time, because they actually figured out how to make the tractor axles work. Still a sweet car though.
I have to agree with you . I was in the market for either this or the ZL1 camaro. I cant see out of the camaro and the interior on the Shelby is better in my opinion. I went with a new 2012 Shelby. What a blast it is to drive! i like the camaro but the Shelby was the one for me. The only thing I hate about it are the stock tires.
love to what they did to the engine, and the interior, but I like the 2007 exterior.
from 1965 to 2010 i have loved every make of the mustang and will own one one day hopefuly a 69 fast back with 4 on the floor but any will do
@4evermazda did you go to the mustang car show id seigen?
this is my future car
@BEBNC1 Also hard to ignore the fact that Roush ditched the live axle for IRS. Simply no denying that independent rear is superior.
if it was stock and then had twin turbos on it, then what did they do with the supercharger that is stock on it?
believe what you want!!
nice! but i like the old look more. if i were to buy a shelby a few years from now,can i mod it to look like the 2009 version? ^^
I love this car, I love it.
whats rollout? Is that another term for burnout?
if you got the number from topgear your wrong it does have 500 horsepower they got 447 because they measured brake horsepower while we measure it the crank.
@Phoenix4749 The GTR transmission problem has been fixed for all the 2010 + models.
Is a beautiful car and very strong...
does this car already have the engine that this car has when u buy the car cuz i might get this car when i get my driving permit
@sevenoh9 Read Motortrend test of the Gt500. They said the amount of power is difficult to control. I believe they stated that with slicks, a Gt500 will be "well under four seconds to 60 all day long". Ford did get a flat 12 at 119mph with a 2011 Gt500.
I don't know what the argument was about, but just because this was probably never said before, I'm giving it a thumbs up.
good choice!
i've seen one of these it was nice!!!!
dose this car have right hand drive or can i get it in right hand drive ?
such a nice car!!!
n9athan, there are excellent car manufacturers in most countries and TVR was one of ours that made your hairs stand on end when you fired up the engine and pushed the gas pedal, but an American V8 is something special.
This car's look are just.......fucking beautiful. There's no other way to describe it. It's perfect.
Yeah, watch my boy's GT500 burnout SICK! Come check it out...He is delivering candy.
@Rawranator24
Not 100% stock, and not without a drive train abusing launch.
Why do you think Nissan and Mitsubishi lowered the launch RPM?
@engineering7777 did you get it yet, after 1 month saying you will get it?? cuz this is my dream car too...
believe me it is great car in this price and performance is COOOOOOOL.
I LOVE THIS CAR.
@canipplecorpse what's the difference between a muscle car and a supercar?
I like the last part he said. :)
I want to buy some GT500 Tires, how can I tell that they are real GT500 tires? is there a stamp on them or something that tells them apart from the normal Goodyear FT supercar tires? (I plan on getting 285/40/18)
no lie..this car is insane..hoping to get this...plan was to get the new 5.0 but a little more savings to put down on this car is worth it.
that looks soo sick. way better looking than the stock 2010 mustang. more hp and better handling too. whats not to like!
My dream car has arrived. :-D
@240sxcoupe09 yeah. the only stangs with IRS was the 03/04 model and another year previous to that..i am not sure the year
@curancho just wondering what about track times?
@Noxxrog
You Damn right it is ... Mustangs are legendary!!!!!!!!!!
beast
@240sxcoupe09
no, it has a solid rear axle.
this car rulezzzz
wow. 12.4 is a very nice time for that car. best I've seen yet. The word on those cars is the stock tires really hurt its 1/4 mile times. I have been in between this car and a vette for a while. The 500hp stang has a hard time outrunning a base vette, but the new one @ 540 and a 12.4 is very nice. Love the looks too. The vette still gets 27mpg though, as long as you're not smoking them at every stoplight. Who am I kidding, I'm buying the car to drive it, not garage it. Stang it is.
I HAVE SCENE THIS VIDEO A BUNCH OF TIMES AND I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE 2 SUPERSNAKES AND A GT500 AND A SHELBY GT.LOL DREAMS CAN COME TRUE JUST NEVER GIVE UP UNTIL YOU REACH YOUR GOAL.
are they making 2010 gt500 supersnakes or krs??
@Manbeast222 Agreed. :) What I want to see is a blend between both. That muscle car would be great! With the Mustang handling, Camaro brakes, and either could supply the engine.
i saw one of these in town the other day. and the Audi r8
@JDwoodman what did you pay? is it a Shelby GT500
does it still have live rear axle?
What does it mean 0-60 "with rollout"? Thanks.
no matter how long it takes ,i'll get one !!
@GradyWhite2007 Also how about giving it an independent rear susension.
I love Shelby GT 500
@4evermazda ou go to the mustang car show in seigen?
what is the best website to buy performance parts from?
i love this mustang!!! so much but i like the super snake which i am pretty sure has more power
I can tell from just by looking at the video the mustang has only one obvious flaw. the tires don't seem to be getting any good traction or grab from the start. Does anyone know a good tire to replace the stock ones on the mustang ? it would be a shame to have such a good car fall to this one Achilles heel.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! YYEEEEHAAAAH!!!
Pretty nice i still like the '05 to '09 shelbys
Is a beautiful car and very strong..:X
I'm in the market - researching SRT8 Challenger and GT500. GT500 more expensive - would anyone have an opinion to offer? Thx in advance.
@Phoenix4749 Well the Mustang doesn't have nearly as much grip as the GTR, I do agree that mabey with this many transmisions exploding that they should try to strengthen it but it's because people mistake that button for launch control. It's only meant for slippery pavement like if it's wet, but otherwise you don't need it to do a 0-60 time that's fast enough.
