It's worse cleaning up a mess. Ya they had to build it, but it was the 1970's not the 1800's. Like I mentioned in another post the bridge from road deck to upper structure was as wide as a skyscraper. Being a mile and a half long that would be a 700+ story skyscraper laying on its side. Remember there is a foot plus thick concrete road deck down there and the four giant piers the ship blasted are also down there. It's a mess and a dangerous one also before anyone starts to build anything.

    • @jk3dad

The bridge was built systematically with detailed engineered drawings . There are no engineered drawings to use during demolition. This is exponentially more dangerous. Pray for the safety of all involved

The bridge collapse was really really bad but they knew that this was going to happen. And you know, the Golden gate bridge is way stronger than the key bridge because the Golden gate bridge could lose two of its pillars that are touching the water and not even collapse because of how strong it is

Don't let the size of the bridge fool you. I know it looks small on TV but remember its a mile and a half long and as wide (road deck to upper structure) as a sky scraper. Everything next to it is going to look small. If it was a skyscraper it would be somewhere around 700 stories tall laying on its side.

Everyone’s experiences are different. I for one appreciate the Army Corps. I worked in the Engineering office of another federal agency for the past 17 years. As such I worked closely with the Army Corps of Engineers on hundreds of projects. I can assure you most are good at what they do. Without them, New Orleans is under water. All lot of our transportation infrastructure is maintained by the Corps. Such as the Mississippi River along with much of the intercostal water way becomes unnavigable without them. A lot of our dams and diversionary water ways fall into disrepair. Many of our ports become unusable because of the lack of dredging. FEMA relies heavily on the Army Corps during disaster recovery. Again you are entitled to your opinion, but my experience proves otherwise to your comment.

I'm not purporting any kind of conspiracy however who greenlighted the Dali as seaworthy enough for a voyage to SriLanka halfway around the globe when it's reported electrical problems were not resolved? She summoned 2 escort tugboats in the channel yet those tugs pulled away from her sides before reaching open sea? Coincidentally moments later the Dali lost main power, back up power and finally lost emergency power as well. Whoever was in control of the ship decided to drop anchor causing the ship to veer starboard. Mayday distress was alerted. Bridge is(mostly)cleared. Except for the 8 workers on the bridge. 6 perished needlessly. This incident was 100% preventable if all federally mandated laws, safety regulations and protocol were followed. Were they? Answers please?

Ship owners are responsible for maintenance costs. But malfunctions occur even when maintenance is up-to-date. The lake ship I worked on lost a portion of its steering gear off the Indiana shore. We rotated majestically around our anchor chain all night until the problem was repaired.

@@markkinsler4333 all I'm asking are reasonable questions pertaining if all federally mandated laws, safety regulations and protocol were followed? Who and why was the Dali greenlighted as seaworthy when it's electrical problems were not resolved while docked? The Dali did summon two escort tugboats while in channel but I'm perplexed as to why they would disembark before reaching open sea? Coincidentally the Dali lost main power moments after the tugs left her sides? Then lost backup power and finally lost emergency power. Whoever was in command of the Dali decided to drop anchor causing the ship to veer starboard. Mayday distress was alerted. Bridge was (mostly) cleared. Collision. Bridge collapses. 8 workers plummet into the water. 2 miraculously survived but 6 perished .
