  • On Tuesday March 26, 2024 at 1:30 AM in the morning the Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) in Baltimore Maryland was struck by a container ship and a huge section of the bridge collapsed within seconds.
    This video is to explain a little about where this bridge is located, how this may have happened, and my initial thoughts with regards to this awful tragedy.

    The issue with the tunnels is that trucks hauling hazardous materials can not use them. They will all have to go through Baltimore or go around the east side of the beltway. It’s going to really mess up trucking traffic for years.

      I just hate to think the 6 people who died, need a better explanation for their deaths than the nonsense the MSM and their EXERTS are going on about talking about the History of the ship and where it is from and where it was going, who cares about any of that distraction it the actual turn that created visible leaning! it is the ship leaning that gives it all away. Watch the video again! If it’s not already too late! before they remove the art proving the turn was under power, for the ship to lean during the turn shows it was a deliberate turn toward the bridge under power creating the momentum resulting in the lean, then adjusting their course to prevent missing the bridge supporting structure, if they had not straightened the course the ship might have missed the pier but taken out the end of the bridge, the main span of the bridge might still have collapsed even without a direct hit into the pier, this action was not a drifting turn,<

      When you consider the reason for the late at night bridge destruction, it makes sense hiding the deliberate turn into the bridge at night, during the day this manoeuvre caused the ship to lean slightly during the turn and then straighten up again when the turn was completed, the chance that this evil act would have been witnessed, was too risky, also, I don't believe they were aimed at mass murder, I believe their aim is about creating more global havoc, global distractions away from their WHO Pandemic TREATY plan, to steal the sovereignty of and many UN Member Countries as possible, than the WHO has total authority to name whatever they like a PANDEMIC, they can then enforce shut down, forced inject the citizens create the Vaccine passport that they tried to get within the COVID Plenned - demic, this port is 5th biggest in the US, blocking the port entrance should cause enormous problems not just for the US this year is about distraction, and somehow they must stop the American people having a chance of changing the Government in November.

    Why were there no tug boats along side the vessel? I'm from Cape Cod, the distance from Baltimore to the FSK bridge is about the same distance as the Cape Cod Canal, and you'll never see a freighter or tanker go through the canal without a tug boat or 2. Seems like this could have been easily avoidable. Very sad.

    • @DJEyeBee
      @DJEyeBee Před měsícem +4

      If you look at AIS data, you'll see 2 tugs move the ship off the pier and then disengage once the ship is pointed in the right direction. If you look closely, you can see the tugs racing back to the Dali as soon as she begins to veer off course when she made the distress call.
      Apparently they aren't required to go under the bridge. That will change I'm sure.

    Thank you for showing us where this bridge was located. I saw the videos this morning. It all collapsed so quickly. Unbelievable.
    That said, I read an article from a specialist today, saying that no bridge could resist to such a collision. This ship was too big for the structure and the room under the bridge was too narrow for today's enormous ships.
    I bet they will rebuild something different. Wider, higher.

    Reference the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over the entrance to Tampa Bay. A similar accident in 1980 took it out and many lives were lost as there was no warning to motor traffic. The new bridge is stunning and as a sailor I can tell you that its structure is protected by many bollards. I can’t say how long it took to build but I suspect that it will be given a HIGH priority.

Sounds like this was an accident waiting to happen sadly... it always takes a disaster for procedures to be put in place unfortunately.

    Just a gut feel on restoring shipping. The bridge debris needs to be removed before ships can navigate the channel. It will be the highest prior to restore that shipping channel, and huge ships and barges will soon be there to remove the bridge from the water. My guess is 30 days or less to remove the bridge, and restore the shipping channel.

There's going to be some serious supply chain issues. The smoke stack you see in the background is the Brandon Shores coal fired power plant that supplies 40% of the electricty to the area. How are they going to get coal?

    I didn't think there were concrete pillars out front to protect the actual bridge columns. But there were protecting pillars. Yet, the ship managed a hook turn, missed the protection pillar and hit the bridge. Miraculous! A large, long vessel that loses power, would not turn abruptly. It would tend to go straight like a hockey puck. The ship seemed to turn before the lights went out. The rudder does very little with no power. The rudder does not extend below the bottom of the vessel. Perhaps it was a cyber-attack on the ship and the crew didn't actually have control. The lights going out doesn't require the engine to be off. The whole thing just looks very very suspicious to me. The water was somewhat glassy indicating very little wind. There would have been little to no crosscurrent at that point in the harbor. I didn't think too much of it until I saw the concrete protection pillar. The ship hooked around it to hit the column of the bridge head on. It could not have been planned any better. The latest in a long series of questionable events, seriously impacting our supply chain.

      This bridge exists because Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) govern the transport of hazardous materials through the existing tunnels. Vehicles carrying bottled propane gas in excess of 10 pounds per container (maximum of 10 containers), bulk gasoline, explosives, significant amounts of radioactive materials, and other hazardous materials are prohibited from using the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) or the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895). In addition the bridge was used for oversize vehicles as the tunnels have more strict height and width restrictions.

    @robertkreamer7522 Před měsícem

    I moved to Maryland in 1971 so I saw that bridge from start to finish. I always thought it was an odd design. Here’s the problem you have a massive port on the other side with ships coming and going day and night and that channel opening in the center is very narrow, and it exposed the pilings on both sides to possible collision. . For a long time when I had my boat in Baltimore, Marine center, I noticed that tugs would be on standby near the bridge to assist if anything went wrong. Apparently that does not occur any longer. I wonder who stopped doing that and it had to be with regard to money. . I think it would be the responsibility of the authority to supply those tugs so this is probably decision at the state level to no longer have tugs on standby by the bridge. Their purpose was specifically to assist any ship getting into difficulty near the bridge pretty simple, straightforward, risk management . But that is really lacking in most of today’s world, especially in the aviation and shipping industry because it all comes down to money paying tugs to be there when ships are coming into port is apparently just not worth it . or at least they thought that was the case they found out otherwise Pennywise and pound foolish as seems to be the case throughout our country today . But the other issue as I used to go under the bridge was the lack of proper design. The channel was too narrow. This bridge should’ve been built as a suspension bridge with the only peers basically on the shoreline of both sides. . That would’ve been a very intelligent design, because there would be no structure to hit, and the peers on either side would be totally immune to collision as they would be in shallow water and area, not capable of any major ship getting to them . I am dictating this, so there may be spelling mistakes but I think you will understand it. . When they replace this bridge now it Hass to be a suspension bridge with a clear span all across the river. . This was a fragile bridge with budget friendly construction. It worked for 50 years until it didn’t. . Now, until the channel is clear, the port is completely dead. Baltimore Marine center and all other marinas are essentially out of business until the channel is cleared. The impacts are going to be enormous all the containers in the port now have to be loaded on the trucks and ship to other ports, no new containers will come into the port, because no new ships will come into the port. . The list of consequences is huge. I hope the people who made the decision not to have standby by the bridge, which should’ve been a standard throughout its life because of the possibility of collision. They are no doubt, smug government employees who saved money . the state is going to lose billions of dollars and a new suspension bridge. Will take 3 to 5 years to build. The channel will be cleared probably sometime this year but until then the port Baltimore is closed for business.

    What surprised me was that the span on the right (in the video of the collapse) still had two supports, at either end, yet it fell as well. I would assume that each section would have enough structural integrity / rigidity to stand on its own, which was totally wrong on my part.

    • @GH-oi2jf
      @GH-oi2jf Před měsícem

      It was a continuous truss. While there were three spans across the four pylons, there were not three sections of the truss. There was one truss, supported at four points.

  • @michaeltyrrell9833
    @michaeltyrrell9833 Před měsícem

    The issue wasn’t a narrow channel width, it had plenty of room. The problem was that there was no real fender system to protect the vertical piers. If you look at images of the concrete supports it’s astounding that it’s completely bare of any sort of bumper-guard as you would see on most major spans. This was a terrible engineering oversight. What was the state of Maryland thinking?!?..

      Ship trackers show the ship was originally on course to be in the center of the channel. Ships come at this bridge from an angle and the channel is relatively narrow. Latest news seems to indicate the ship issued a Mayday call when it started to stray off course but there wasn't enough time to get the ship stopped or get the tugs back to the ship.

    A longer video shows solid black smoke as they come into that head on video.
    They blasted up to 10 knots then failed at
    Worst possible point.
    I’m thinking fuel starve , maybe algae in the fuel tank that floats like a plastic sheet on surface. Or water in fuel , electric failure, etc .
    The slow left turn as power and smoke come on from dark indicates Full Reverse.
    Probably overrevved when it failed again .
    The Harbor Pilot also advises Captain who do control their own vessels but doesn’t physically take command.
    So easy to armchair pilot but
    using Forward instead of trying to stop may have deflected some energy and not put 2900 40’ containers plus a million gallons of fuel/ oil / lube loaded on a ship against a bridge on a handful of unprotected structures.
    I have not heard audio of ship horn which is odd .5 blasts if trouble…….

      They use tugs to get them lined up in the channel and then local pilots are on the ships guiding them through here and out into the Chesapeake Bay. I have a feeling at the very least they will change how the tugboats are/aren't used and how ships navigate this channel.
