The tonsils are small, round pieces of tissue that are located in the back of the mouth on the side of the throat. Tonsils are thought to help fight infection by producing antibodies. Tonsillectomies are a common surgical procedure in which the tonsils are removed.

The tonsils function as the body's initial
line of defense in the mouth. As integral parts of the immune system,
these structures protect the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts by
attacking any viruses, bacteria, and debris that enter the mouth. Your
primary tonsils (the palatine tonsils) are located at the back of the
throat, on the left and ride sides respectively. The adenoids (the
pharyngeal tonsils) are near the nasal cavity, and the lingual tonsils
are at the back of the throat. These structures can develop
    complications like tonsil stones.
Many people undergo treatments for issues related to tonsil stones, as
these lymphatic organs sometimes act as more of a liability to your
health than an asset. When infection occurs, the tonsils can create
significant health problems such as airway obstruction and greater
susceptibility to repeated infections. Each tonsil is composed of an
intricate network of crypts that contain cells that fight infection. If a
foreign substance like a virus or a bacterium infects these crypts, the
tonsils can trap the debris. Once the debris is trapped, it can combine
with mucous from the throat or postnasal area and become concentrated
    into tonsil stones.
Tonsil stones, also known as tonsilloliths, are the result of the
trapped debris that has hardened inside crypts in the tonsils. These
stones can be smelly and look like small, white chunks. They may
sometimes become loosened and coughed up into the mouth. Individuals who
suffer from chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated
tonsillitis are the most at risk for experiencing tonsil stones, since
frequent infections can cause the tonsils to become swollen, red, and
    inflamed continuously.
If you are experiencing symptoms such as a sore throat, bad breath, or
breathing issues, see your doctor or an ear, nose, and throat
specialist. He or she can examine your head, neck, and mouth to
determine the cause of your symptoms. If he or she observes that your
tonsils are enlarged and have white, hardened stones, your healthcare
provider may recommend the surgical removal of the stones. In some
cases, the tonsils themselves may need to be removed to prevent frequent
    infections and stone-formation.
We made a video on how to eliminate tonsil stones permanently using natural home remedies. You might want to check it out.

I love your explanation. Very detail. So, tonsil act as the first line of defense. So instead of attacking inner part of our system, the virus and bacteria stay and infect the tonsil. But why, in most cases, kids improve their health ( super less frequent illness) compared to when they still have tonsil ? Ok i understand the answer is : because the tonsil has removed so no more tonsillitis. But, after removal, the virus and bacteria should easily enter the body and attack other parts, and result in other disease ?

This video just solved a 13 year old mystery I've had
When I was younger between 3 and 5 when I slept there were times when I would feel like i couldn't breath and that someone was choking me despite my dream not reflecting it
So I would wake up and gasp for air and look around to see if anyone would be choking me but no one was ever there
I told my mom and she said she would look into it
My memories from around those times get blurry so I couldn't remember everything exactly
All I know is that I ended up getting my tonsils taken out for tonsillitis but my little brain didn't put 2 and 2 together at the time hell I barely remember it
I just accepted it and as time went on I realized that I hadn't been choking int sleep anymore
It took me turning 18 and coming across a random video on CZcams to put 2 and 2 together
    I feel so dumb😭😭🤣🤣

@@JapaneseSoomi they are nodes in our mouth on both sides, they are there to help prevent alot of bad bacteria entering our bodies, you would normally have them removed if they are infected
