What Is A Large Fibroid Size?

  • Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors of the uterus composed of smooth muscle found normally in the uterus. They are also called myomas or leiomyomas. Fibroids are located in different parts of the uterus.
    Fibroids are small, dense nodes consisting of muscle fibers and connective tissue. A woman may have one such node or multiple nodes. Overtime these fibroid nodes increase in size and lead to deformation of the uterine walls, which causes unpleasant symptoms.
    UFE (Uterine Fibroid Embolization) - is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical procedure for the treatment of uterine fibroids, which reduces the risks of complications and relapse of the disease to almost zero, allowing a woman to return to her usual life back in a short time, preserving the patient’s fully functioning uterus, and the ability to become pregnant and bear a child.

      6cm and up large, 10cm and up very large. However, it is more about symptoms and location then size. A small fibroid located along the lining can cause very significant symptoms while a large fibroid located on the outer part of the uterus may not cause any symptoms at all. Learn more at ATLii.com

      Fibroids often cause sciatica and low back pain; particularly if they're located in the back of the uterus. Fibroids after UFE usually shrink significantly. Was a pelvic MRI with and without iv contrast performed after your UFE (we do it at 3 months after) to insure that all of the fibroids are dead?

      I was asked basic follow up appointment questions, such as "is the bleeding still the same," and "have I experienced any pain?" I never got a 3 month post MRI nor was I ever told how the outcome was. I assumed it must have worked because my monthly cycle was normal without heavy bleeding. But sure enough I still have nice sized fibroids. I completely did not understand why? I thought this might be normal and maybe the surgery failed in other aspects?

    I was diagnosed with a 3cm fibroid in the fundus of my uterus in 2005. It causes no problems and has been asymptomatic. It's been 10 years now since menopause and I experienced spotting. The doctor found a cervical polyp which is benign. Next week I go for a hysteroscopy. Is it better to leave a fibroid alone long as it's non cancerous? I don't want a hysterectomy unnecessarily unless it's for lifesaving procedures such as cancer. I have heard 90 percent of hysterectomies are unnecessary. What are your thoughts on this?

      Please don't do this blunder same as I how I have done all these years. That fibroid has to be out of ur body becoz it only grows larger larger in size with time. Mine has attached itself to my intestines n Dr couldn't operate on me. My MRI never showed it was attached to the intestines. So he's given me injections to shrink it becoz that way it can detatch itself from the intestines so that then he can remove the uterus too. He told me if he operates on me then it means cutting that intestine to reach to the fibroid n I will have constant puking n fever daily n my intestines will have to be tied up in a bag n kept out of my body n there will be gangrene. I would have a miserable n torturous life in pain. I gave up on thinking of conceiving. Becoz my life has been a battle for 12 years with repetitive surgeries.

So I get up every other hour to change pads. Had to consider wearing diapers at one point of time. My companion doesn't want to deal with me seriously bcz of no sex. He refuses to understand my situation. Life for me has been miserable and I'm slowly giving up. I'm scheduled to do the procedure hopefully I can get my life back. The stress and depression associated with uterine fibroids can't be explained. The first solution I was offered was a hysterectomy which I didn't want to entertain bcz my uterus is a part of me no matter how old I get. Im 46 with 7 children even though I'm not having anymore and my tubes are tied, I'd still feel empty without it. Looking forward to some relief 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

      I would get a second opinion. You're likely a candidate for UFE. You said that this is your 2nd time getting fibroids. Did you already have a myomectomy? If so, there's never a reason to get a 2nd myomectomy (it would just set you up for a 3rd procedure). You're 40 so waiting until menopause is also not a good idea. Please get a 2nd opinion from an experienced Interventional Radiologist on whether you're a candidate for UFE. Good luck to you.

      The most commonly used embolic particles are permanent and do not dissolve. They stay in the fibroid branches and cannot get out. Your uterus stays completely alive but the fibroids die. We have had numerous women have children after UFE. Our births typically have been full term and vaginal whereas if you have a myomectomy you won't be able to have a vaginal birth (only c-section). • @Atlii
      @Atlii  Před 3 lety

      Fibroids cause symptoms based on location in addition to size. Therefore, decent sized fibroids at the back of the uterus will press on what is next to them and cause the corresponding symptoms (exs. constipation, lower back/buttock pain with or without sciatica). If the 3 fibroids are based on a pelvic ultrasound, you likely have a lot more than 3. That's why we use MRI as it has a much higher resolution. You should look in to UFE. Learn more on fibroids and UFE at ATLii.com. Good luck.

      While fibroids can interfere with every part of the fertility journey, most women with fibroids have uneventful successful pregnancies. 5.3 x 4.8cm is roughly lemon-size and will tend to grow during pregnancy. I always have bloating problem, but been like this for a long time but now it is becoming much worse. I also get swollen or have edema on my legs and thighs. My lower body is getting so fat, and my tummy. I gained 25lbs on lower body. My breast size also deminish like I am now a surfboard. I am changing into a yucky old lady. I am confuse with this hormone thing. It says if you have fibroids it is high estrogen, but it also says if you are perimenopausal you are losing estrogen and drying up. SO I am confuse now, do I need estrogen or not? I am thinking of taking mht. The foods are also confusing, it says do not drink milk when you have fibroid because it has estrogen, but perimenopausal needs milk and also to delay menopause. Some say no red meat, but some say they healed from keto diet high protein and liver and organ diet. SO I don't know what to do it is very very confusing. 😮‍💨

      Impossible to say what’s best but UFE is an option. Myomectomy has a high recurrence rate since they dont get all the fibroids out. UFE knocks out all of the fibroids and therefore has a very low recurrence rate. If you undergo myomectomy and get pregnant, you’ll need a c-section (more surgery). If you undergo UFE and get pregnant, births typically full-term and vaginal.

      If the fibroid is in the uterine cavity, despite its small size, it could affect your ability to conceive.

    I use to have to wear paper towels and I would just gush blood. I never had fibroids until I had my son. I had one they said was the size of a six month baby. I had the procedure where they shrank them. I was awake and I have my life back. I was so depressed and had no life. I still thank God, all these years later.

    I have fibroids and I want to treat it through UFE I dnt see myself to getting cut following ur videos you stated after UFE treatment you suggest an MRI after 3 months i live in New York i wish I was in Atlanta so I could’ve treated there in ur clinic/center.I found UFE center here in New York one they use the artery from the arm you said the groin is better, 2nd the do a 6 month MRI after UFE treatment is it good or should I find one that suggests exactly ur protocol to use the groin artery and do a follow up MRI after 3 months I’m asking because you seem very confident-and extremely professional and knowledgeable at what ur doing which gives me confidence to actually go for UFE treatment not any other intensive surgery each time I watch ur video I feel relieved because it seems like a very promising solution to treat fibroids and be free from all my symptoms
