Less Than Zero was such a good film, and it's amazing how years later, he always goes back to it, and gives it a lot of credit.
katerin a One of his best films, hopefully after Iron Man and the Avengers, he can go back to doing great movies again, like Less than Zero.
katerin a I cannot tell you how many times I have watched that film through the years and I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME from his performance! He’s sooo incredibly talented! It’s such a pleasure to see his success professionally and personally after the years of his battle with his demons and self-destructive behavior! There were years when it seemed he wouldn’t be able to come back from the depths he had strayed into and he might not just lose this incredible opportunity to use his talent but more importantly he would ultimately lose his life. I’m sooo happy that he didn’t and was able to fight his way back to sobriety and eventually into enough work in the industry to prove not just the extent of his talent which was well beyond being a one-trick-pony but also to prove his reliability, recovery, commitment, intelligence and desire to succeed not just for himself but for everyone on the film crew that worked with him and gave him a chance! THIS is a TRUE Hollywood success story as opposed to what we usually see and it couldn’t have happened to a more talented, intelligent, loving person!

Less than zero is an unbelievably powerful movie. That tennis court scene is so gut wrenching
Saw it again after years and the movie is still heartbreaking and as good as I remembered it to be. Julian is one of the saddest and most realistic characters ever from that era, and Robert played him so brilliantly. The movie didn’t deserve mixed reviews and Downer should’ve got his first Oscar nom with this movie.
Less than Zero was a very eye opener for me and the kind of actor RDJ could be,. IF he would get off the fast track.

The judge is a good one... but is very recent. Just watched yesterday.
Hopefully he can do great movies like Less than Zero again, bit he has had an amazing career all ready.

I’m really glad because it does bug me when people say he was made for iron man. He crafted and worked hard towards the material of the role but he wasn’t born to play it and nor do I think it’s his best role. Some suggestions would be ‘zodiac’, ‘Chaplin’ and most importantly the role I think he acted the best in and is severely underrated ‘less than zero’. He played the role almost too convincingly because he was going through similar things in his actual life at the time. That films paints such a beautiful image of the tragedy of having friend with a drug addiction and how much it can tear you apart. This to me was his best role
That tennis court scene brings me to tears every single time I watch it. Just watching Robert explain the process here brought me to tears as well. Marek Kanievska created a masterpiece. His directorial talent is missed. And Robert was a master class in acting in Less Than Zero!!!

I am a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. ..we are the same age. I agonized while he suffered through addiction, knowing it was such a waste of perfect talent. He is an inspiration to all those struggling with substance abuse, it's possible to change.
This scene in Less Than Zero marked me so much, Robert really did an amazing job ! He has so much talent he inspires me a lot
And THAT SCENE on the tennis court is the greatest scene in the film LESS THAN ZERO.
I love these "interviews." I use that word in quotes, because Sam Jones just hangs back and gives his guests space to have their thoughts, he never interrupts.

less than zero is an amazing film. VERY different from the book but? I loved it.

He was so amazing in Less than zero such a great star cast .
I love the movies so much I spent most my younger years running in and out of theatres on Hollywood Blvd and Sunset watching as many movies as I could, at probably at the greatest time in movie history. When I saw Less Than Zero, the use of music, the stunning lighting and camera work, the STORY hit home. To this day I watch it at least once a year. Top 5 on my all time list. Downy's performance was incredible.

Not really. He's dialed it back a fair amount, but look at almost any interview where he's actually comfortable with the person and he's about the same as here.

I am so glad RDJ was able to come back from his troubles and achieve the success he has. I remember him from his early teen films and there was always that unique spark in his performances all the way back to films like Back to School and The Pick-up Artist, and of course Weird Science.
Ah, NICE! Sam. I am so enamoured with this black and white format. It's like a fabulous frame on a great painting.
I don't think people understand the importance of a really good, caring leader or teacher even if they appear to be prickly. Making that much of impact on just ONE person's life, honestly, I feel is more rewarding than "being likeable" honestly ever could be. That's my opinion, and this gives me a sense of validation as well. Being able to change or appreciate a person is so very important.
Joseph Quinn reminds me SO MUCH of a young RDJ, and they're both so talented. I hope Quinn never falls into any of the traps that nearly took RDJ, and I'm so thankful RDJ is still with us and still working.
