Draw over top of the perm marker with a dry erase marker. It will, then will wipe right off, as if it were a dry erase.

thanks everyone, I used acetone...came right off

    • @mkelley9849
      @mkelley9849 Před 3 měsíci +3

Acetone is, hands down, the go-to solvent for products like markers. However, be advised that it is extremely volatile in that it evaporates very quickly and is quite flammable as a result. If you're using acetone, always put the lid back on the can immediately after withdrawing some from the can. Also do not allow paper towels or soak rags to be thrown into the trash and then the lid covered. That is a great cause of spontaneous combustion. Better is to drape the rag outdoors over a banister or something horizontal such that the acetone will evaporate and dissipate very quickly, thus minimizing the chance of a fire.

I am almost one year out from my surgery. I don't remember the names of everything but I had two complete tendon tears, the bicep tenodesis and they shaved down the acromion . I am a 64 yo male. My journey with shoulder issues started with a MVA in February of 2017 and after a series of unfortunate events found myself in terrible condition and pain. Everything you have described in this video has been my exact experience. I am so glad I found your videos a year ago, they were a tremendous help to get me back to what I would guess is about 95% today. Thank you so much!

I had mine repaired with the tendon repairs too, 5 weeks ago. I took the meds religiously for three days and used an ice machine for about 7, and I can honestly say I never had one moment of pain. I bought the ice machine prior to surgery and they had it on and running before I even left the OR. I highly recommend this.

If I could give your videos 10 likes, I gladly would! Thank you so much for spending the time and explaining things, that most surgeons do not have time to explain. After skiing for 40 years everywhere, someone ran into me full speed on a small hill in Ohio 4 days ago. That dislocated my shoulder and fractured greater tuberosity of right humerus. Talked to the surgeon today and did not even know the right questions to ask since I was lucky enough to stay out of ER all my life. Surgery is scheduled in 4 days and I was clueless what to expect. Your obvious compassion and knowledge are a true godsent!

My Physical Therapist told me I was so behind, it almost destroyed me as I felt I had been working so hard. I asked the surgeon (whose good hearted). He said, well since she wasn’t here looking at the damage she can’t tell you where you should be. Assured me I was at a good spot and to keep going he’ll tell me if he’s concerned!

The issue of communication between your PT and your surgeon is a problem but I understand both of them are in a business.
If your PT is not doing soft tissue work and mobilizations around the shoulder blade then they aren’t helping you progress faster… that will dictate the stress of the Glenohumeral joint and RC.

I was just injured about a month and a 1/2 ago at work. I've been rehabbing, the pain didn't go away, MRI came in, torn, 3.5cm suprasp, 3.0cm infrasp, tear in labrum, and Bicep tendinitis, no atrophy or fluid...I have a good range of motion but I have a pretty serious condition. I don't know, I been referred to the surgeon's office this coming week. I'll continue to check out your videos. Trying to do my homework to be as ready as possible when I see the Doctor, it a WC.. Hello. I learned a lot from your video and look forward to watching your others. I'm scheduled for rotator cuff surgery next week. I fell 6 months ago which caused the injury which also broke my wrist. I had surgery on my wrist 3 weeks after the fall where the surgeon used a plate and 8 screws to repair. That is fine but my shoulder continued to hurt w/o them doing anything but x-rays. Nothing broken. Finally had an MRI 3 weeks ago and the damage reads like this...Near complete to complete tear of the distal supraspinatus tendon, Complete tear of the distal subscapularis tendon with associated medial dislocation of the long head biceps tendon. Also small to moderate amount of fluid about the glenohumeral joint and subacromial-subdeltoid bursae.....also mild infraspinatus tendinosis, mild to moderate fatty atrophy of the subcapularis muscle. The same surgeon will do this surgery. My concern is he didn't seem to think this was so bad, but I know he see this alot. To me, this seems huge and I wonder if after all this time , I will heal completely and have better ROM. Thanks for your help.

Put Ice pack on before sling, sling works great to hold it in place right down the middle section.

First time watching. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I had some kind of rotator cuff repair/tear, about 4 weeks ago. The surgeon said my bicep was involved, but that’s all I know. My post surgical pain was off the charts for 2 weeks. At third week, as long as I was fairly still, it was a bit better. Now, at the middle of the 4 weeks, my pain is a bit less. Still though, can only have limited movement. They’re telling me to start physical therapy by next Thursday. I can’t even imagine this. I’m 61, small female with Type1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I feel like this bone disease/ collagen disorder, is praying a big role with my recovery and pain. People with OI are very slow to heal and connective tissues are affected. I feel like my doctor isn’t taking these things into consideration. I’m concerned that I’m going to do or not do something that will cause me to lose use of my arm. Not sure what to do.

This brings back memories...Rotatator repair June 23 with bicep repair and bone spur removal. Sleeping on a wedge pillow helped hugely for the first few weeks, there was no way to sleep flat. Also, start therapy right away. I told my PT, she was just as important as the surgeon. If you don't do PT, the surgery is worthless, the body needs to follow the steps to get to the final result. There was a patient who had both knees replaced at the same time and didn't start PT until 2 months later! He was solid hard like cement...had to go under anesthesia for manipulation! It was so sad to see and hear the man's screams...

Today I'm 3mos post op. Was a 4cm tear from a fall on the ice last Feb. Did a few months of therapy when they decided to an MRI and discovered the tear. That was in May. Surgery Nov2nd. Since, surgery ive followed all protocols to a T. At 4 weeks post opp therapist used a belt around my bicep and around his waist while I was laying on my back. He put his weight into it pulling away from me. Felt like he was tearing my arm from my body. Since its been rather painful and seems like it is progressively getting worse. Now at 3 mos im having alot if pain. Constant ache in my upper bicep. Doing another mri in 2 days to see if something else is going on. 😢Im ready to be done with this. Any thoughts would be helpful. If yes, which one do you recommend so my post surgery has better chance to heal or find it easier to gains strength because of some stretching programme before the surgery. Thanks again doc.

Oneom, In general I don't have anyone do strengthening before shoulder surgery. If there is going to be a long delay until surgery I like my patients to keep their shoulder moving so they don't get stiff. As you know stiffness is common after shoulder surgery and makes it harder to recover.

Could then sleep on my opposite side and prop my arm with another pillow. Sleep! Also was able to manage pain during the day with Tylenol+ice and only needed narcotics to sleep, which lessens the constipation. I think the antibiotics also contributed to constipation and bloating. Hi Doc. Thanks so much for this video. I'm scheduled 10 January for L rotator cuff surgery. I'm a paramedic and over time I've felt "pops" in either shoulder lifting land whales but Motrin, ice, rest and time got things back in check for the most part. Several weeks ago i was in the back of the unit and began to stand up when my partner hit the gas too hard. Slung me against rear doors very hard. Knew immediately i was injured. Ultimately couldn't lift the L arm. MRI revealed complete tear. I now have good ROM and very little pain. Actually feel like strengthening the muscles might do the trick. Am i wrong ? Feel little "pops" in that shoulder regularly now though. Do you think P.T. would solve my problem or is surgery going to be necessary ? I just hate the thought of being out of work 3-4 months. Sorry for rambling but that's my story. Merry Christmas Doc.

I had labrum repair and tenodesis done 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately I ended up in the hospital 6 days due to pneumonia from aspirated blood into the lungs from a lacerated throat when intubating. While in the hospital I had to remove the wrist from the immobilizer to lower my PJs to use the restroom and felt a pop and my arm went numb. The surgeon saw me 10 days after the surgery and noticed a Popeye arm and when I explained what happened he said the tenodesis was now a tenotomy. He says it won't affect my recovery. He ordered an aggressive rehab program because I had frozen shoulder before the surgery and he wants to avoid that from happening again. I have been having a very sharp pain under the armpit that goes down the arm all the way to my fingers. It also goes to my chest and scapula. I have no strength to even do the wall walk or lift the arm with the assistance of my good arm with the pulley. When assisted by the therapist they can move it almost to head level while lying down but it feels really weird. I had surgery on my other shoulder 3 years ago and recovered really fast and well. Im worried something else might have been ruined but doctor is on vacation till next week and so are therapists. I'm going to try to do some exercises I found online on my own.

12 days post op Rotator Cuff repair here. I have two tips. My Number one tip is if you can afford it, get an adjustable bed platform for your bed that raise your head and feet. They have them that can fit in your existing bed frame or flat on a platform type bed. They work with any mattress. You may be able to rent one. Sleeping in a recliner gets very old very fast. With this, you don't need to sleep in a recliner and you will enjoy it long after you are healed.
My Number two tip is to buy or rent an ice machine. It circulates ice cold water into a pad that is designed to be secured to your shoulder. It is a lifesaver when it comes to pain management.

    So true. About comparison
Had traumatic injury in Feb 2023. Had to wait for mri bc of iron infusion.
Had rt tear repair and decompression and clean up in September 2023. The pain was excruciating and therapy a challenge.
Had left shoulder large tear and bicep repair in March 2024. Now at 3 weeks. Had to discontinue opioids at day 4 bc bowel impaction. Haven’t looked back on pain meds. Maybe a Motrin post pt but not really painful.
In the meantime. Grossly obese friend with mobility issues had surgery with complete tear with almost no pain but she wimped out in pt and is having big issues
Neighbor decided after 4 days he wasn’t going to wear sling at all after large tear surgery. His wife who is an er nurse finally gave up and he is doing fine. But he was really fit before traumatic injury.
I am compliant patient so I got to take bolster out two weeks post surgery on the left shoulder.
Still not a hundred percent on right shoulder but so much better than pre-surgery. Left repair to be determined.
It is a personal journey. I would add a number 6 to your list. Be patient. The first 6 weeks are make or break. Trust the force. Don’t be a jerk. Watch out for people who aren’t mindful of you bc all it takes is someone who is not paying attention to you to slam into you. Even if released from sling, maybe wear it in public for the first two months just to be cautious and alert people. It can also prevent well meaning big hugs from people. Lol

I’m 16 days post surgery for a full thickness RC tear (arthroscopic) and open bicep tenodesis. I’ve been in the sling consistently, as directed, including the abduction pillow. Within the last couple of days, I’ve noticed some discomfort on the inner elbow area, toward the backside of the arm. When I remove the sling for pendulums and stretching, upon letting the arm dangle, there appears to be an oblong pertrusion (assumably a muscle?) at the location of the pain. This area is sensitive to even minor touch, and it feels like it’s being pulled/stretched when the arm is straightened out. Back in the sling, no pulling feeling but the abduction pillow is pushing into the area, causing more pain.
    Any thoughts on this?

By Sept '23 had a ridiculous exacerbation of osteoarthritis which made humeral head look like a spike protein or a mace lol.
This lead to TSA in Jan '24. My ROM had decreased to only 45° lifting arm front and side. Excruciating pain.
Was doing " better than any TSA they had ever seen" at PT rehab postsurgery. Prob 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule at 11 weeks. ( home exercises are a habit after 2 years and I only missed 2-3 days in all that time)
Therapist got overzealous on April 1 and overloaded the pulley weight and popped my proximal bicep ...Popeye now. ROM is crap.
    Surgical repair on Monday morning.
    I'm getting pretty tired.
62 y.o. physiologically and physically young male. Mesomorph , so shoulder muscles are big and, a-hem, super strong...it's genetic.

I had a rotator cuff repair in 2015. The pain was tolerable. I refused to take the heavy drug because I didn't like the side effects. The worst for me was PT. It was extremely painful because my arm wouldn't go up. After a few months, I got a cortisone injection which did nothing. My orthopedic decided that I had adhesions and had to have surgery again 6 months later. It worked well. Main thing is, trust your therapist but use your own judgment. Do you therapy at home as prescribed.

Hi Dr, great informative video, thanks for the upload.
I had a supraspinatus 1cm cuff repair, mini open and arthroscopic and subacromion debridement 11 weeks ago. The surgeon used swivelick anchors and fibre wire, I'm now going through physio. I did have 2 weeks of trap muscle spasm after about 10 days.
The surgeon and physio seem happy with my progress yet I'm a little concerned with the weakness and stiffness on my external rotation. Using the theraband I can only get to about 30°, as opposed to 60 on my good arm. The shoulder then is stiff and painful beyond that point.
I was a bit worried that I may be experiencing adhesive capsulitis. Sorry for the query but do you think I just need to be a bit more patient, excuse the pun!

Ice reduces blood flow to the area. Blood flow means nutrients. Nutrients are needed for healing.
However, as you point out, ice should be used in the beginning. If if not, there will be an increase in inflammation and swelling. This results an extra pressure. Which results in pain. Which results in need to reduce that swelling.
