    ❤❤❤❤ I do this for a living at U.H. I'm a floor tech as well. And I've been doing this for 15 years now I want to start my own floor tech business some day, but I'm so discouraged because a lot of competition out there.

      I’ve had this idea for a while now. I remember buffing floors in basic training. Popped in my head that it might be something I could start a business doing in my area. I just don’t know where to start. Do you have any input? I was wanting to just do buffing. Hardwood and tile floors. Not sure if a single buffer can do both.

      I'm a floor tech at a hospital in Houston been doing it for about 16 years now and I had the same idea. A co worker tried doing it as a side hustle. Invested in a van, the equipment, supplies, chemicals, everything. He stopped after 2 years cause it seemed like nobody cared about how their floors looked. He would try to get business from small private schools, barber shops, hair salons, nail salons, restaurants, and other small businesses and 9 times out of 10 the answer was we're not interested. That really discouraged me too. I'm just sharing a story don't let what I said stop you💪

    Strip & wax takes me a lot of time !!!!!! Any pointers on how to speed up the procedure ??? Thanks

    • @runthis8738
      @runthis8738 Před rokem

      There is no faster way. Over time you learn a few little tricks to make your own process slightly quicker, but mainly there is no way to speed up the steps to doing it properly. My biggest advice would be to re wet the stripper after scrubbing so it has no chance of drying up on you while extracting. That takes having to do it twice out of the equation. Good luck!

    • @jasexavier
      @jasexavier Před 7 měsíci

      Depends on the area and the staff. For large areas and 2-3 people, get a routine down. Break the area into sections that will take 15 minutes to scrub with the machine. Apply stripper to the first one. Allow to dwell for 10-15 minutes. Apply stripper to the second section and start scrubbing the first. When you finish the first, the second will be ready to be scrubbed. Have a second person apply stripper to the third and subsequent areas as you go, and pick up the slurry when you're done scrubbing. If you've got three people, one person should be applying stripper, and hand scrubbing edges, uses a sharp floor scraper to remove heavy buildup, especially around edges, etc., while the third picks up the slurry and rinses the floor. Once the person with the scrubber starts scrubbing, they shouldn't ever stop until they reach the end of the work area for the day.
      For extremely large areas, like an entire grocery store, look into high-speed propane stripping machines. Some of those can do 5k-10k square feet per hour. Slightly less daunting, autoscrubbers are great for rinsing, just don't put stripper in them. Walk behind wet-vacs are dramatically faster than canisters with wands.
      Also, know your chems. Some strippers rely heavily on volatile solvents. You need to mix those with cold water. Hot water will flash off the solvents, leaving a weak solution behind. Read the slurry as you go. If you have a lot of finish that's staying stuck to the floor, add more stripper; if you have a lot of stringy or chunky stuff, add more water. You can add these directly to the floor as you scrub. When you hit the right amount of both the slurry will turn to foamy water. Never allow stripper or this slurry to dry. Keep it wet until you can vacuum it up.
      Lastly, practice! This is a skill that takes time to learn to do well, and more time to learn to do well while also doing it quickly.

    Look at the instructions from the chemicals you are using.
    1. Put down stripper solution. Probably have to dilute. Read directions.
    2. Use the buffing machine to aggitate the stripper.
    3. Dont let the stripping solution dry.
    4. Pick up the strip solution with a vaccum.
    5. Wet mop with water only.
    6. Apply wax. Dont walk on it.
    7. Allow to dry. Some people use fans. Probably tells you not to on instructions.
    8. Apply several coats depending on your type of wax. See instructions.
    9. You can add a sealant to the wax.
    Tip. Ensure you have protective footware. We had someone need skin graphs for leaving stripper on his foot too long.
