  • Walk-through as I change the washers in a part II type (part 2) ball float valve. This shows the removal of the float valve from the water cylinder, and dismantling the float valve.
My property overflow pipe was dripping, and I could hear a dripping sound from my water cylinder.
The water cylinder float valve was dripping due to washers that needed replacement, and a build-up of limescale. I removed the float valve from the cold water cylinder, dismantled the valve, and soaked components in vinegar to remove the limescale build-up before reassembly with new washers, including a new diaphragm washer.
After fixing, my bath runs two to three times faster. I believe this is due to the limescale build-up that was stopping the valve opening fully before.
The ball float valve in this video is a part II type, these feature a diaphragm washer. This float valve repair stopped it leaking, making it shut off completely so there was no dripping, leak or dripping sound. This obviously stopped water dripping from the property overflow pipe too, as a result.

Excellent video. Very clear and logical explanation. No need to call out a plumber.

Could you just take the ballcock and end off and just replace the diaphragm?

did it work?? My toilet does this regularly, I don't really know what causes it to malfunction...what causes the diaphragms to become ineffective?!

Pity he didn't mention turning off the cold water feed first.
