I’ve told kids that if they weren’t quiet, I’d cry. The kids started chanting “CRY, CRY, CRY” 😭😭😭😭

Yes! Blatant disrespect, talking over others, refusal to work, etc are DAILY issues for teachers.

Love this episode🤣. And here’s a call and response for you that makes me laugh. I say hear ye, hear ye and they say, yes , your majesty. I wear a crown when I’m working in groups so they know not to interrupt my groups 😉. It is second grade so it work. 😂

Thank you for another amazing episode! This has been one of my favorites. My school switched admin and school wide behavior is ridiculous! There is no consistency; there’s talk of consistency, but it’s not happening. We have and will be losing some of our best teachers because they’re so over it. Thanks again!

you know most of these students as far as the hoodies and stuff goes: if they know why they cant where they cant wear a hoodie or hat, be honest, dont tell them ' because its the policy / rules'' tell them, its due to visibility needs for security, its to make sure no one is sleeping, hiding answers to tests, or doing anything gang affiliated, and so on. give them a legit logical reason why this is a policy. that worked extremely well for me when dealing with youth.

Student teachers coming in need to know the parents usually get an email saying they're coming in and expectations are laid out. First year teachers it's more of a welcome to the school and good luck

I had a child that flipped a desk in my class. Si, I flipped a desk and stared him down with the craziest look I could muster up. He eyes widen. I said, "I can flip one too. I didn't take my meds today." I didn't have a problem from him the rest of the year.. sometimes you have to act a little crazy for the good of the group.😂

People are probably so over hearing this but I’m happy to see Gabe with two other cohost that don’t make fun of him mercilessly. I think the main take away from this episode is everywhere is different not every style is going to work at different schools. The kids who destroy classrooms and get no punishment for it is the exact reason why we had a first grader do what he did last year to his teacher❤

The only surprise with that situation was that it hadn't happened sooner. I am so tired of hearing a student can't held accountable because they have an IEP.

The one that drove me nuts was that my entire masters degree everybody was pushing the parent home visit. When I got to my teaching job, they flat out said you can’t go to a parent home visit without a police officer in tow. You’ll be arrested if you try. Not conducive to relationship building.

Talking about call and response, one of my favorite phrases to use was "I will let you not learn anything today"
This made everyone sit down, and hush others because they all wanted to learn "something"
(I get that it was a rare moment, but I soaked it up none the less)
Since then, I have been racking my brain to come up with other ways to extend that phrase because it points to so much more than getting in trouble for not doing any work that day.

If 2 boys are having an argument. And I've already addressed the issue. And I want them to just stop talking about it and let it go I will say if you don't let it go I will sing the song. it's amazing. They make up so quickly because they don't want to hear that song!

I have a teacher who’s lets hoodies, hats, masks, ear buds phones everything. We do the work because he cares about us. Talks TO us not at us. We work because we respect him. He’s real. He’s patient. He teaches us more than just what he teaches as a teacher and no it’s not politics or religion or the gender stuff. Just life skills and success.

I thought they were done with that crazy shit or at least they stopped enforcing it in my area when I was in high school like after Trayvon Martin situation the teachers didn’t want involved whatsoever with taht at a mostly African American school but hats and hoods were never aloud before that happened because kids would hide ear buds under their hats to listen to music or listen to the online read aloud book during test for all the answers without studying but as long as the hood is down it’s just like a sweater I went to school in Ohio it gets cold as fuxk what is the problem with hoodies anyway as long as they don’t have gang affiliations in the area and if they do at least let them wear school colors only or so school hoodies with the mascot or something on it that they can wear to avoid gang colors otherwise in states with 4 seasons the student just gonna be thinking about how fuckin cold it is and not learning or listening to anything being taught

I mostly agree with everything. But tbh it shows me I’m not up for the job b/c I have no tolerance for behavioral issues. I don’t want them in my class. I’m not a psychologist. If that’s teaching then no thank you!

    • @Pterodactyl-kn3ve
      @Pterodactyl-kn3ve Před 7 měsíci +5

As a teacher you are a psych/counselor. Kids don’t always get to talk to their parents and you’re the only other adult that gets to know kids. Being that counselor/psych saves lives.
So yeah, you aren’t cut out to be a teacher. Please don’t.

@@Pterodactyl-kn3ve If someone does not have a degree in counseling or psychology and tries to intervene with students it could be incredibly negative and detrimental to a student. A teacher DOES NOT have those credentials/skills for that so telling this person they shouldn’t be a teacher is outrageous.

    • @jenniferpierce4498

@@Pterodactyl-kn3ve Teachers are not counselors / psychologists , having that mentally is dangerous. Schools have counselors for a reason and if the student needs a psychologist, parents should step in and provide that. I agree that we should be there for the kids but we have to remember there are 20 others also so we can be everything for every student unfortunately
