  • When installing an automatic locker in your 4x4, it is advisable to remove your automatic locking hubs and convert / install manual hubs. This video shows you the simple way to convert your hubs from auto to manual, so that you don't have to buy new wheel hubs. I have used GU Nissan Patrol hubs as an example, however the process is similar for many other 4x4s such as Toyota Landcruiser etc. The late model landcruisers use the same hub style as this so the process is the same.
    If you don't fancy modifying the Nissan hubs, then these are the hubs I would use if changing over to manual locking hubs. Just pack them with plenty of high temp bearing grease and you are good to go.

    Yes removing the brake will make it manual but please don’t pry it out with a screwdriver. Hold it upside down use a soft hammer like brass to tap the bottom of the housing and it will all fall out nicely. No damage no scratching or scaring of surfaces.

      Thanks. Yes, it's a preventative because if the GU hub is not modified and is set to 'AUTO' and it locks up on hard surface (perhaps on a rainy day etc) then the locker will lock up which can lead to an accident.

      He wasn't saying you have to get gq hubs, he was using gu hubs in this video.

      Yeah so if you DON'T want to modify any hubs, just use some GQ manual hubs. If you want to utilise your GU hubs then follow this video to convert them to manual hubs, at no cost.

    once you have the auto part out. should the rest of the locker inside the hub still spin. not sure if my entire assembly is cooked.

    Great video. Is it possible to undo the modification and are there any special tips for when you are reinstalling the hubs after modifying? Thanks

    great vid mate. but watch `havacrack` disassemble auto locking hubs .

      He lost me when he started hitting the mating surface of the hub with a hammer... 1 little dent in the mating surface will cause water ingress and destroy your hubs (especially after you do a water crossing, then get the car home and don't drive it for a while). I destroyed a set of hubs this way.

    Great video mate! Just wondering if I am able to fit a '4wd Systems' auto lokka using this method?

      Thanks mate. Follow this guide if you want to fit a lokka into your Patrol (The one I fitted was a Spartan brand, but the install process is practically identical): czcams.com/video/gQSGtD3A0h0/video.html

    Hi mate, can you drive these at all times on the road and off-road etc when they’re in the locked mode?

    • @Unfastened
      @Unfastened  Před 2 lety +1

      You've essentially converted them into a manual hub. Lock them when offroad, unlock them when onroad.
