    But are clean sheets down to the goalkeeper? If there is a good defence then they shouldn't have many shots against them. Wouldn't the best goalkeepers be the ones pulling off the most saves and getting cleansheets.

      @HrosikDavidek Před 5 měsíci +2

      It's a bit trickier than that, you have to take into account how well they are able to organize defense in front of them, if they are able to precede a lot of chances by sweeping high, how do they impact team off the pitch, if they are a leader and much more. It's not about just number of saves or clean sheets, it's complex, but in the end you have to take into account all the statistics and trophies won.

      And it's also a must-have quality of the top keepers that they can do nothing for 85 minutes then pull off just one match-winning save
      As a keeper I used to love doing a few bits in the first 10 or 15, it made me confident. If my team were smashing it and 20, 25 minutes went by without me getting a touch or even needing to shout commands I started shitting myself like "it's bound to pop off in a minute and I am defo not ready"

      Yeah gk are hard to compare with stats which is why golden glove is flawed trophy.
      Good defence usually means less saves but more clean sheets. Bad defence usually means less clean sheets but more saves. Also depends on play style of the team like Liverpool focus on attack so leave the defence very prone to chances, but city keep the ball so ederson will make less saves.

      So You think Degea didn't earn 75% of his 140+ clean sheets at Manchester United? After 2015 I'm pretty sure he literally won games single handedly so yes the GK has a massive responsibility regardless of the defence in front of him! I myself have made 25 saves to keep a clean sheet and trust me it's extremely rare that a defence won't be expose for a full 90mins but it's no so rare for a GK to be unbeatable for 90mins!

    The biggest what if in my opinion is not seeing manuel neuer in the premier league who despite being italian and we have had buffon and zoff is the best goalkeeper ever.
    He is the only player playing currently that evolved what being a goalkeeper means like beckenbauer did has a libero.

    It depends... to be fair now in PL there are no GK over 33 that are number one tho. Fabianski is clossest to that.

    • @rlecras1
      @rlecras1 Před 5 měsíci +6

      Probably because keepers older than 33 generally play a different style that is no longer required.

    How did a goalkeeper called Seaman keep so many clean sheets?

  • @chuckwagon7354
    @chuckwagon7354 Před 5 měsíci

    David Seaman's save vs Sheffield United 2003 FA Cup semi-final is one of the the greatest saves ever, and he was 38 at the time. Edwin Van Der Sar was 34 when he joined Man Utd and he definitely improved after that. Some Keepers do get better with age.

    • @turdferguson7264
      @turdferguson7264 Před 5 měsíci

      David James too. He was a much better keeper at 36/37 than he was in his 20's. While others like Hart, De Gea and Robinson start to decline earlier.
