Pierre luc Dubois is the most overrated player in the league
Homie was never really that good
Can you really call it overrated? I don't think many people have ever rated him very high. He's "only" overpaid imo
@RinkFloyd i don't think that's fair. Laine was looking really good with multiple 30+ goal seasons when he first entered the league. His defense is bad and now he's playing for a dumpster fire blue jackets team which doesn't give him a lot of spotlight to excel.
Dubois was the center piece of a massive trade and has been utterly abysmal for the team that gave up so much to acquire him.
I just don't think they're comparable at all.
68M for a pylon
100% agree. I never understood why everyone doted on his trade requests.
Vilardi has 20 points in 26 games and a +18. Iafallo has 17 points. Chevy is a genius
Alternatively Rob Blake is a dumbass. Vilardi and Iafallo were 2 of LA's most effective players in their playoff losses to the Oilers and he traded them both for this floater.
Agree big time
Chevy is a THIEF! 🥷
And don't forget the jets also got Kupari & the Coyotes 2nd rounder in the deal.
Or Blake is just a bad GM.
Mason Appleton has more points than PLD. Let that sink in.
Vlardi does in half the games
PLD is playing on the 3rd line with two rookies. Not really getting much of an opportunity.
@@stammeh22 did you not hear him say the kings put PLD on with Kempe and Kopitar and was still struggling?
@@tippytheclown4923 for 4 shifts brother. That was it
@@stammeh22 Mason Appleton play 3rd line too.
Montreal dodged a bullet.
Thank god eh!! Would have been an other Drouin.
Hughes knew and didn't want him.
He had such a bad rep and then came to town to hang-out, and party in the off season…with Canadiens players. He is not a humble dude.
probably because we knew it was a bullet. it wasn't hard to figure out he's a pile of toxic waste. i've been saying it myself for the last 2 years, every time that idiotic rumor came up.
any other team but LA dodged a bullet.
His problem isn't skill, it's his ability to give a shit
not only is he lazy, he's selfish and entitled. if the kings put him on the trade market now, no one in their right mind would touch him.
As a Jets fan i have myself a hearthy laugh when i think about this trade, and then i fall of the chair when remember the contract Kings gave him.
Here’s to that Brother
LETS GO JETS
PLD should have got only short term deals. Like Alex Semin did most of his career. I hate LA so this is good
Technically, we gave him the contract. Was a sign and trade.
But yeah, the point still stands...
When I heard we were talking to yall, I hoped it was for Hellebuyuk. I literally screamed when I heard it was PLD
I never understood this trade.
1) LA gave up a lot to get him
2) the two teams he played for before ended on bad terms
3) coaches have questioned his effort and play before
4) always had potential but never a great year much less consistent
5) signed him to a massive long term contract knowing if it doesn’t work out he’s untradeable
Fr Dude is Alex Semin with less proven production lol. Like he didn’t even have a hot season that could fool other GMs
At minimum Semin was an elite powerplay producer in a low scoring era. Dubois just goes invisible for 20 games in a row.@@impulse_xs
I can think of at least 2 AHL players who would have been a better pick.
As a Kings fan I was terrified the moment I heard the Kings were interested in testing for him. Nothing that has happened since had convinced me I was wrong to be frightened
Same
as a Habs fan, same. So glad we didnt trade for him
as a jets fan i’m glad he’s out
@@phil5arHabs might as well have, they're not making the playoffs either way.
@@Dylligraphy I never thought habs were making the playoffs this year.
As a Habs fan I'm laughing hard in French
Haha table snack ice tea!!
You came close to getting him.
So is Dubois
Canadiens would have won if they traded Dvorak and Gallagher for him, though@@CJK57
La balle nous a raté de justesse. Elle a frôlé notre temple.
That trade just made the Winnipeg Jets a Stanley Cup contender. Thank You 😂😂
if they got nothing back from the kings in that deal, they'd have still won the trade. interesting they get remarkably better upon his departure.
Meh, we shall see. Definitely better at least.
@@doaftheloaf Exactly. Addition by subtraction would have been good enough for the Jets.
Stanley cup??? Lmfao not that team.. there are teams in Canada even with a better shot than them at winning a cup.
@@Bigmakpaddywack Yes they are a stanley cup contender. I am an Oilers fan and the Jets are the team I fear the most headed to the cup this year.
The fact he wanted to be traded and got what he wanted makes this trade even worse.
This is another bad trade by the kings when I heard who they gave up for Dubois is was pissed the players they let go were all good players and are showing that with there new teams while the Kings got a one way player who can’t even score goals! I’ve been a long time fan of the Kings but have no confidence in the managements performance when it comes to trades and giving up on players that played hard for them only to get traded away.but I’m happy for the success these players are having outside of the Kings organization!!
@@daviddewindt884not even the first time with him either, he wanted out of Columbus too and got traded
I dunno. I live in Wpg and if someone would paid me 8.5 million a year to live in Wpg or LA I'd probably choose LA too.
Kings fan here. Jumped for joy when Vilardi scored his first goal in his first game back after battling with injuries. Was going to get his jersey this season. Iaffalo was also a solid guy for us and would be an excellent depth scoring piece right now. Seeing them thrive in winnipeg is good to see, but man does this trade stink from a hockey level but also a sentimental level. Winnipeg is now humming and could potentially win the cup this year with two of our guys, and we’re in the slums losing to the sharks with PLD’s bloated contract and abysmal numbers. Hope he gets it together but this trade is looking totally lopsided right now
The kings with vilardi and Iafallo were already one of the best teams in the west, with Vegas, Edmonton, Dallas and Colorado (Nobody expected Winnipeg and Vancouver to be this good when the season started). They didn't need to do this trade. It's a shame it hasn't worked out, because on paper Kopitar Danault Dubois down the middle does sound pretty good, if Dubois performs relative to what he's being paid.
LA has fallen off a cliff and is not one of the best teams in the west clearly
We’re fucked…
"were" = past tense@@mvd4436
Lmao performs relative to what he's paid? Huberdeau in Calgary, Gaudreau in Columbus, Seth Jones in Chicago, should I go on? That's not how professional sports work. Because systems and usage can protect players so much. LA got sold potential instead of reality, just like Winnipeg did when they traded for PLD. One great playoff round as a very young player, that's how he continues to get signed. If he could just play like that, every analyst says. Then Reality comes knocking. And PLD just avoids answering the door. No one home, check back later.
I think the idea was that he would replace Kopitar as he ages and eventually retires. Obviously that is out of the question at this point
When the trade/signing happened, I didn’t really think it was that bad. but seeing how he’s getting paid 8.5 million a season and has never hit 70 points before, this contract might be one of the worst in the LEAGUE
Brendan Gallagher enters the chat..
@@gauvinizerHuberdeau to gallagher: hold my beer
So why didn't you think it was bad back then? You already knew he never had 70 points in a season...
@@pixelj4877 Nurse to Huberdeau: hold my 6 pack
Good contract if your name is Dubois.
The saddest part is that he’s very good and he definitely has the skills but his biggest issue is that he doesn’t care! Dude is seriously talented but when you watch him play he just doesn’t try. Many times I’ve seen him try to get the puck against the boards with someone else and I’ll see him just standing there just casually holding his stick and not even trying for a second to get the puck. Why tf is he like this?
Since the trade, the Winnipeg Jets have become a true Stanley Cup contender. Meanwhile, Pierre Luc Dubois is now the Kings issue to deal with.
Teams need to realize that making these trades and then signing these long term deals immediately is such a terrible decision. This needs to stop
I find it hard to feel bad for LA knowing PLD's history in the NHL and giving up on his team, let alone not performing.
Agreed!! It was buyer beware and PLD's reputation preceeded him
This albatross contract will handcuff the Kings for years to come
I was sad to see all three of the guys we traded for him go. I didn’t really know about PL but was hopeful. Now I’m just sad those guys are gone
Vilardi alone is worth WAY more than PLD! This trade looked horrible back then and looks even worse now..
@@tomblade PLDiva's negative value is even more than vilardi's positive value, which is considerable.
I never understood why every time he was traded, people acted like it was a blockbuster.
Kings fan here...Do you remember that infamous zero effort shift by PLD? He plays like that 75% of the time. Whenever he's on the ice, I watch PLD specifically, and he rarely gets involved with plays. It's like he's waiting for others to do all the work and he'll just stand there and shoots every so often. There have been times where I could have gotten back to stop a breakaway, but you don't see him in the TV frame until he glides into the frame after the goal is scored. I wish he would try. Just give us some effort! Skate! Skate to the bench at the end of your shift and GET OFF THE ICE. Start with that! He's driving me absolutely nuts watching this lazy play every night!
But that's nothing new, he has always been like that! So how on earth didn't LA's management know this?!?!
This comment should be pinned... He is so out of position on both sides of the puck it is maddening. The referees have better footwork and speed than he does.
This is karma for how they treated quick
Brown was a shell of himself for the last 3 years as a King, and they kept him until he retired. Sure, Quick was having issues in the net, but it was a team issue, not just Quick.
I had a great suite vantage point for the 9-8 Kraken game last season so I saw every goal, and none of the 3 goalies for either team could stop the puck.
Just look at what Quick is doing now for the Rangers. He could still be doing it for the Kings. Team Management matters. Fire them all!
Quick to Columbus for another goalie (Jonas Korposalo) who left the Kings after the 2023 season? Really?
I agree with @joedaodragon3565. The Kings screwed Quick and now karma is hitting hard.
PLD has less points than Huberdeau LMAO
The signs were there in Winnipeg.
A goalie was needed, but Dubois was traded for instead... yeah I think it's been a GM problem for me.
It's almost like Dubois has brought the entire organization down with his suckiness. I've had the misfortune of seeing the loss to San Jose and the shutout to Toronto live and Dubois picked up a -2 in both and has been a minus in general in a Kings uniform. Terrible contract.
in retrospect the trade was amazing for Winnipeg hands down
vilardi is dealing with injury for the 2nd time, kupari is unproven, and ifallo is what he costs.
@@dixonhill1108Vilardi is literally day to day LOL. And the other injury literally was intentional. He’s nearly ppg. Iafallo is great. Kupari has X factor potential. And to top it off a 2nd is just a cherry on top. Cope.
Not just in retrospect. That trade already looked horrible when it happened. It's like LA hadn't followed PLD's career...
31 teams in the NHL won that deal, by not acquiring PLDiva.
As a Kings Fan this trade has been nothing but pain.
You're saying the guy who took a hissy fit with 2 different teams is a problem with his new team? You don't say.
Montreal has dodged a huge bullet. A year ago, people were begging Kent Hughes to trade with Winnipeg to get him.
He is going to play himself out of the league if this continues
he's on the books for 7.5 more years. at 8.5m. a buyout after this year would stretch until 2038.
@@doaftheloaf he is not worth the money
Been a Kings fan since their first year in 1967, so I have witnessed some really horrible trades. This one, unfortunately, is right at the top of that list of horrible trades. Boggles the mind what GM Blake was thinking considering Dubois’ past issues with the two teams he played for.
Kings traded Larry Murphy back in the day, but they were very thin on defensive defenseman back then.
I wonder if L.A. was envisioning PLD to possibly take over the #1 center role after Kopitar hangs it up in a few years.
I bet he chillin' pretty hard now he's in LA
8.5 milly by the beach
He got his bag.
Nah, not with CA taxes. Plus nobody's 'chillin pretty hard' in that dump of a city.
Oooof, had no idea things had fallen off so badly with PLD. Looks more and more like a tough contract to swallow. Vancouver just went through a patch with an overpaid, underperforming player in OEL. Wonder what the Kings will do if this continues.
This guy backchecks less often than Draisaitl
Ask Tortorelli what he think, we don’t miss him in Winnipeg.
All PLD has proven is that he's a diva with all talk and nothing to back it up.
Why the Kings felt the need to make this trade still baffles me. And why Dubois? If you're willing to invest that type of money and move all those players why not set your sights higher than Dubois?
Should've gotten Hellebuyck
i have to think Blake lost a bet 🤔 there was no upside for the Kings
Dubois did OK in Winnipeg because he was paired up with Kyle Connor most of the time. Now the rest of the league is seeing how much Connor was carrying PLD.
could have gotten Toffoli back at half the cost and gotten a decent goalie
This trade (and contract? gets worse and worse...
Good lord that 2016 draft class has fallen off a cliff. Laine is half the player he used to be, Dubois has 0 work ethic or drive, Puljujarvi fell apart with hips made of sawdust, and Juolevi is like a bottom pairing defenseman in Scandinavia... and then there's Auston Matthews who still hasnt learned to pass.
But that shot though
Does it matter if you’re on pace for 70?
So ur the coach that would tell matthews to pass first?
Matthews scores at a great rate so only an idiot would worry about him passing.
Tkachuk 👍
I would rather see healthy Arvidson back in lineup instead of PLD
I don't understand signing a guy for 8 years who is on his third team and hadn't proved anything with L.A. at the time of signing, a four or five year deal I could understand but eight years? Is Ken Holland secretly the G.M. for the Kings?
Kings fans were regretting the acquisition before it even happened.
Why do teams sign players longer than three years? Eight years. LA . Surfing. Goes hand in hand. That is a GM killer of a contract.
reminds me of when the Flyers signed Kevin Hayes to a ridiculous deal.
This contract looked ridiculous to me when it was signed. Now it looks even worse.
why do teams keep signing average guys to massive deals especially when they haven't played a single game for the club
LA Kings management is a joke, he had shown no signs of being worth that contract yet they still expected him to improve his game greatly. I think he was 24 at the time when he signed the contract, had couple seasons with 60 points back to back, not really projecting any growth. Even if he was putting 60 points at the 8.5M cap hit it would be an overpay with his whole game. It's a mess, without even considering what they gave back in return.
I think where people messed up was thinking he’s a good fit for LA because of where he could fit in the lineup, not his playstyle. LA is big on team defense and high pressure which have always been Dubois biggest weaknesses. This was kind of bound to happen
This is what happens when a team tries to emulate the Leon Draisaitl contract.
draisaitl is not a cancer, and he did in fact have a 70 point season. also, had far more potential than the diva ever did.
Kinda happy that the habs never traded for him
Yes, they dodged a bullet. The contract the Kings gave him is just stupid. He's never earned that.
@@jamieh4148 fax I mean 8.5 million nuts
Im surprised you didnt cover the production of the players the kings traded in comparison.
As a Jets fan Thank you LA!!😁
Jets fan: We were figuring we got the center who dominated Toronto in their playoff series 4 years ago. We got the other center who was playing his game on his terms. He was never invested in the team and not a full participant most nights.
As an Oiler fan I was overjoyed when that trade went down. The Kings got worse. The start to his Kings career has only cemented that opinion.
I knew he’d be a flop and I was against him coming to Montreal. PLD was a bum in Columbus, a bum in Winnipeg and proven to be a bum in LA.
Like we don't have enough bums in L.A.
@@BigAngryPhil - sounds like an LA problem. We got our own problems in Canada. His name is Justin Trudeau.
@@SimRacingVeteran The way people find ways of going wildly off-topic is interesting.

As a Jets fan, I dont get how the Kings did not do their research on this guy, still cant believe the players we go in return. Kings would reverse this trade in a second if they could
PLD does not have any trade protection in his current year so the Kings should trade him asap if there is any interest?
Even at free, that contract is nearly impossible to move. I can't believe how much the Kings gave up in order to sign this bum.
ouch thats a bad contract .. wow
Still better than marner Tavares and nylander. Kings, jets and even the jackets will all win cups before Toronto even makes it past round 2.
Dare I say worse than the Campbell contract? At least the buyout on his won’t be as much of a hindrance to the cap as PLD will be for the next 8 years.
i'd love the oilers to make that trade. because i hate the oilers.
Getting of Durzi & Valardi were 2 of the worst moves Blake has made. Iaafalo is also gone. They needed a real #1 goalie. The position is going to be their weak spot until, hopefully someone in the farm system comes up. I hate trades with no move clauses in them, whatever DuBois does this year needs to be followed with 60 & 70 point seasons, at least.
put dubois in net, without the goalie pads. no wait, his own team will start shooting at him then.
the only kings goalie prospect of any note is erik portillo, who they got from the sabres last year. they better hope he's good, and soon.
"hey, we need a goalie." "let's spend all our money on this pile of toxic waste instead!"
this could be the worst trade since neely/pederson.
There are more Kings on the trading block than not for someone like maybe Swayman. If not maybe a reclamation project like Samsonov. Talbot, Ritt8tch and Copley are sad trio.
@@danb2020 samsonov has been worse than all three of those.
he’s like kari lehtonen used to be. either lights out, or god-awful. no in between.
maybe they can try the panthers and see what spencer knight would cost. it’s a crazy idea, but he might still have that potential.
He's an just a Diva. He's not ever overrated, because no one rates him highly anymore. Future compliance Buyout.
if they allow those again, then there's no question of it.
Dubby has proven nothing but yet he is held in high regards as a possible elite player 🤦♂️ You can't make this sh*t up.
Dubois is a weird player, he had streaks where he can be really dominant but it’s almost like he doesn’t care too much. Like he’s lazy or something, or just has nothing to play for. His highs are high but his lows are REALLY low.
It’s also not like his skills are shakey, it’s literally like once in a blue moon you actually see him use them. Such an interesting player, but maybe he is just shitty and has finally got what he wanted and doesn’t feel the need to play hard anymore. He got his money, he’s on a decent team and he’s in a warm weather location so there you go.
I'm a long time Kings fan. This is looking like the biggest bust I've seen in nearly 30 years. Given the duration of the contract, it seems like we're in for a miserable ride with a player who doesn't seem to give a crap. What the heck was Blake thinking?! How could he not see the type of player he was buying?! Dubois must have a hell of an agent!
Thoughts on the Hockey Canada news that just broke today, plus any confirmation that the 5 players in question are Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton (who is presumably the most guilty as he did not even deny involvement), Carter Hart, and Michael McLeod?
Do you think the IIHF would extend any potential NHL suspension to cover their jurisdiction (including the KHL)? Or would that only happen if their passports were revoked?
Dubois first year in Winnipeg was terrible. Year two was twice as good. Not easy to be patient at 8.5 mill but maybe a year is what he needs. This from a Jet's fan.
Don't see it happening. Plus he's making that much he should be producing
Kings will have a new coach after this season finally ends, either missing the playoffs or easily getting knocked out in the 1st round. They are stuck with that contract, so they can only hope PLD is better with the next coach.
PLD is a joke. The guy is, and has been, absolutely brutal. Talk about an absolute bust!!
Jets look like geniuses now after that trade.
Dubois is a special player. Some players make coaches look bad but it takes a special player to make multiple managers around the league look bad and that is what makes Dubois special. He is the modern day Alex daigle
Coming from a kings fan I was happy with the trade at first because I’ve always felt like we need a star player and I felt as if him and fiala could really get something going. Once I heard the money that was given I shrugged it off and was hoping for him to be a big key part of our success. Now I’m worried if giving him all that money will drastically affect the team in the future. BRO GOTTA DO SOMETHING!!
PLD has proven with his attitude and play that he is a must avoid for future trades
When they were winning a lot, PLD’s half hearted effort was tolerated, but now as the Kings are tumbling in the standings, he’s like a anchor tying down the ship from leaving the harbour.
I mean I was willing to give him a pass as Torts ain’t exactly known as a player’s coach nor his Bowness but he just looks disinterested most of the time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player skate in a game like it’s warmups. Tonight in Nashville he made Petr Klima look like Patrice Bergeron.
wow. his contract is nearly the same as JT Millers'.
As a jets fan when I saw the trade happen I was so happy right away haha. This guy has always sucked
How is it that the fans can see How bad this guy really is but the NHL can't see it. I laughed my a$$ off when i seen what the Kings gave up for him then that contract.... Ruined the kings.
I remember hoping the Canucks would be able to draft him years ago. Wow was that a dodged bullet 😂 nobody hire me to scout shit please
I would’ve rather had vilardi and iafallo but I don’t think this as bad as people are saying
1st. Depth is important when winning cups and games, this guy adds value to be a 3rd line guy.
PLD Danault Grundstrum and kopi the best center depth in the league
2. We’re 46 games in give this some time. When kopi retires and when all our young guys keep getting better this team is gonna be nuts. I don’t know why this is the year we expect him to put up a ppg he’s learning and isn’t gonna play first line minutes with kopi on the team
3. Even with this deal the kings still have a cup in there future. Once a goaltender locked in this team only gonna get better in the next 5 years. Clarkes coming up, Spence, byfield, turcotte (maybe), lafferiere, Kaliyev, Moore all gonna get better.
No surprise. Guy wasn’t happy in Columbus, wasn’t happy in Winnipeg. Poor teammate
Not an impact player, but paid like one. Soneone believed the hype
At this point what would you get for him or what team would take him?
sharper passing and shooting? defense positioning?
What a bust😂
Lets keep in mind most Jets fans were livid with this trade & wanted Chevy run out of town.
What a difference a few months makes.
Guess who got the last laugh & these fans seemed to have jumped back on the bandwagon.
Many Kings fans felt Blake fleeced the Jets with the trade & were rejoicing with him.
PLD has ALWAYS been a selfish, lazy player with NO two way game.
The PLD slander is getting old. I’m a kings fan and have watched every game this season, PLD is a good player and is not the issue. Our issue is our coaching staff, they’ve completely lost the room. Todd has made some ridiculous decisions with lineup choices and has refused to change things up when we started losing. To put his stubbornness into perspective, we’re a horrible 1-10 in overtime, and Todd has used the same starting 3 every single time. Biggest team issue has been sloppy play in the defensive end and turnovers leading to odd man rushes, Fiala is the biggest problem with that. PLD is a force with the puck, he’s huge and easily holds defenders off him while he looks to make a play, but he’s a top 6 guy who’s spent most of the season playing with a rookie and a borderline AHL player. Of course he’s not going to produce. I wish more people would actually watch him play before saying he’s terrible
Dubois did so well his first two seasons in Columbus, although his 3rd was a bit disappointing. He was still just 21.
The last two seasons for the Jets he had solid production. It’s been a disappointing start in LA, but quite a number of players who had great stats (better than PLD’s) are disappointing this year.
Regardless of his performance, the team is struggling, they need to right the ship Now!
We will start throwing shade on Pld AFTER McLellan is fired
As a jet fan, I hope PLD turns his game around.
Didn‘t we have enough hints that PLD is a player that would stop working hard once he got his contract? He put himself over his teams and forced himself out multiple times. I get that, no hate. But don‘t expect such a personality to work harder once he got his contract :D that‘s the kind of player teams like boston would get rid of immediately to keep their team culture intact. Great trade Winnipeg!
Sooooo glad the Habs wanted nothing to do with him. He's lazy and entitled. The Kings gave him an horrible contract that will hurt him a long time lol
As a habs fan, I breathe a sigh of relief that we didn't win the PLD sweepstake.
So glad that the Habs didn't get him...I didn't wanted him there or at the very Ieast I didn't want the habs to trade assets for him. Keep him L.A. don't worry though, he'll ask to get traded soon as he did everywhere else he played (NHL or Juniors).
Guy wants to be paid like and talked about like an elite player but puts in the effort of a casual beer leaguer. That’s probably offensive to beer leaguers cuz mostly all of them likely at least care about their teammates, PLD just in it for the money and fame. Dudes a bum anywhere he goes, don’t know what the kings were thinking with that contract and they are paying for it.
PLD is not gonna ever get you 60 pts in a season on a defense-first team like the Kings.
As a jets fan this just gets better and better 😂
Funny how PLD starts to disappear after that contract gets signed. Prima Dona.
