    Any GM that wants PLD after following his career should be immediately fired for terrible judgment. This is who he is and a change of scenery is not going to change his intensity and how hard he plays.
    There are other players to give a chance to who don’t have the talent, but will bring it every game.

      Well, at least he turned out to be better than Jesse Pulijujarvi. Recall that Columbus was expected to draft Pulijujarvi given that the GM was also Finnish. The then Columbus GM took a chance on Dubois, and it looked to be a good gamble-for a while...heck his value improved so much from the day he was drafted to the time of being traded to Winnipeg that the Jets were willing give up Patrik Linne to get him.

    How much of acquiring PLD was at the hands of Bergevin who covered the player? How LA hired him as a consultant was ridiculous when he didn't 10 years destroying the Canadiens with his lack of vision and rudderless management of the Habs.

      To be fair Bergevin did do a couple good moves, like Suzuki trade for starters. But more than not his decisions hurt Montreal but glad it won't take 8 years to fix

      @@robertlavigne9828 The Suzuki trade is a win because VGK and Montréal chose the get / protect the wrong guy i.e. Cody Glass so VGK propose Nick Suzuki instead of Glass. Montréal have no choice but to accept the offer for their captain Max Paccioretty a 35 goals a season scorers.
      The next year Nick Suzuki became a dominant player in the OHL and Bergevin pass for a genius instead of being lucky.
      Cody Glass never developed to be the dominant player as predicted and end up in Nashville, Tennessee with the Predators.

That said, whether or not they have enough assets on their roster to boast a strong enough core group of players to contend with in the near future is another debate

    Even if it makes them look really bad, they should totally do this or at least trade him. If they save ~5.5m a year doing this for 14 years, they can easily pick up a 2nd line forward with that money especially with the increasing salary cap. They still have Byfield, Roy, and Arvidsson to sign, and I'm thinking they need lock all 3 up because they have so few right handed shots on the team as is. They also need to sign a competent young goalie that can be their starter for 5 years with Portillo serving as backup. There's not many great free agent goalies next year, so they'll probably have to trade for one, or be willing to sign someone like Kahkonen or Samsonov. I'm hoping they involve Dubois in a trade like was rumored near the trade deadline with the Bruins. Maybe Pittsburgh is more willing to trade Jarry now that Letang and Malkin are hitting their peaks? Dubois could serve as a transition center once the Penguins start rebuilding in a few years.

    They can't buy him out until the end of the playoffs because of NHL rules. If the cup is awarded before game 7 of the finals, they can buy him out. If game 7 happens, they won't be able to buy him out. The Kings are praying for a cup win in 6 or less.

    A million a year till 2038 is surprisingly little. I would even consider it just to do the basketball thing of declining an option to re-sign them at a more appropriate price. I kinda doubt he would want to after the sh*t hes been eating from the fans and media. He needs to go somewhere hockey isnt important.
    On the other hand top centers are what you need to win the cup and Dubois could be better. Thats a really tough call.

    He’s not responsible enough defensively and isn’t able to drive his own line
    He’s there highest paid forward and can’t even center there third line

    If there were some interest in PLD from Mtl the boy should pay for the privilege of pulling on the Habs jersey ...say. $7Million.       Nope. LA would have to retain 50% (unless we can find a 3rd team to pick up 25% of dubois contract) of the entire contract. In return, habs will send LA Anderson and Gallagher with some retention.

      Yeah I think that is a coincidence.
      The similarity between each of those teams is they overpaid to retain a player that they shouldn't have, not that the player is from Quebec.
      Those were emotional decisions not completely supported by evidence. Penguins wanna keep the gang together. LA doesn't wanna rebuild. Calgary couldn't afford to get nothing from the Tkachuk trade.

      how though? half winging it and floating around with occasional flashes for years would have me offering no more than a one year prove it deal regardless of the team. To be real though, the Habs are doing fine and Dubois seems like the kind of guy who's going to mess with the team mojo and probably drag a couple of guys into the local city nightlife

    POS is 25 years old and already on his 3rd NHL team! That's all you need to know about him! Not skilled, not a great teammate, just a middling NHL players that will never be anything special other than having a nice bank account, but with a buyout that's not even all that great for a supposedly elite player! They need to dump him if at all possible and just move on!
