On a highway if people only moved in to the over taking lanes to overtake and then moved back once the manouvre was complete, there would be much less tailgaiting.
But unfortunately most stupid drivers fail on this very simple principle.
Now add those people that spend more time looking in the rear.view at where they have been instead of the direction they are travelling and finally those that believe they own the road and decide it is their job to police the speed of other drivers instead of simply pulling over when safe and allowing others to pass with minimal fuss.

I recently did something stupid. I worked for a massive company that owns nursing homes. When I found out they were falsifying records to cover up sexual abuse after it happened I complained. When I found out they were covering it up in advance rather than preventing it I told them they were wrong. They told me to get my stuff and get out. Then they made up stuff about me ruining my chances of getting another job like the one I had. People told me that those I was worried about have been hurt, but everyone pretends nothing happened. If i didn't get emotional, I would still be there helping them to stay safe. Plus I wouldn't be unemployed.

@@adrienneanderson-smith2257 Believe it or not I tried. I was told nothing would happen and they were not interested. They said if I filed a complaint without really good evidence I would be arrested for hipaa law violations. The company I worked for Maximus Healthcare, has deep pockets, and a well deserved reputation for buying small facilities and turning them into dumps. They make government contracts to house dangerous people no one else will take in with the other residents. Look into what happened to small nursing homes they purchased like newfane rehab and briody rehab. Check the reviews after they purchased them. Briody was a five star place before Maximus. They have a lot of political pull, and support from unions. Senator Bob Ortt wanted to revoke their license but other politicians protected them. I'm just one of many they canned for not going along with them. I hate to say it but many nurses and other employees just lie for them to keep their jobs and not start over some place new. They always staff management with scum who can act nice when they have to, and everyone just says nothing happened, and make up stories about the person fired. I have actually lost a lot of sleep worrying about the residents. The day I was fired I argued with them because they faked a woman's records to say she could no longer talk. This was done to cut her off from family too far away to visit. They were hiding a man who sexually abused her right across the hall from her, and management and a head nurse agreed to keep her quiet so she couldn't tell her family if he did to her what I was afraid he would. They didn't watch him at night. The head nurse was in trouble and agreed with it to stay the head nurse on her wing.

They were not paying people to baby sit all day no matter who was getting hurt or how they were getting hurt. The man I was worried about actually tried to strangle two men to death, and may have killed one. He died a few months later in the hospital. I tried to tell the owners, they mocked me. I even later told one of the families. The administrator convinced them there sister was attacked because I didn't do my job, and that I was fired for that. I really hope there is such a thing as karma, and a place called hell. I guess I just lost my temper. Scotland's SNP ruled government and it's supporters are really bad for that. They made low emission zones in the centre of the city of Glasgow and hundreds of their own vehicles fell foul of it and had to be scrapped. Smoking bans decimated the pub industry. The sugar taxes and alcohol taxes have pushed up the prices of a few simple pleasures for all of us, who were once trusted as being responsible for our own intake and it won't reduce the problems of alcoholism or obesity because if those people want those things, they're only going to reprioritise their spending habits, in order to still get them.
The local SNP run government in West Lothian reduced all the speed limits in towns and villages from the 30mph, that it had been for years, to 20mph and replaced all the speed limit signs with brand new ones. Even though the 20mph speed limits had not been enshrined in law and were actually unenforceable! They just sat around a table and decided to do it, one day. Their thinking: 'well, some people are doing over 30, in the 30 zone, so maybe if we make the speed limit signs 20, and people break that limit, they will keep their driving under 30'.
Truth was, lots of people in front of me were doing 20. It increased journey times, increased emissions, hampered deliveries and so hampered business. Oh, and increased public spending on new signs.
There must not have been much of a public consultation, other than with other stupid people who were only too happy to take the hit and comply.
Thankfully, after it was dropped on us from on high, like a bolt from the blue, some intelligent people must have banded together and took them to court, or something, because it lasted about 3 months and then all of the speed limit signs got put back to 30. A rare case of common sense triumphing over the self-flagellating stupidity of a devolved Scottish government, with 'wee man syndrome' always trying to look like 'the most progressive society in Europe' (which the UK voted to get out of, in a referendum, but the Scottish government would desperately love to rejoin).
Modern, stupid, lefty politics sucks. It's crowds of stupid people imposing restrictions, losses and penalties on themselves and everybody else.
The Scottish National Party are super nanny-state. Like a bunch of old fart and old granny fascists in cahoots with their totalitarian, revolutionary, grand-kids with ear expanders and blue hair.

I would counter with personal life experience, that is not the stupidity that's the issue, it's the lack of self-awareness that's the issue.
If I'm not qualified for a task, being aware of that will make the situation better for everyone. Finding someone who IS qualified is even better. But stubbornly believing I'm qualified in ways I'm not, hurts everyone.

People can be functionally intelligent and still epistemologically stupid. Climate science is a good example of where some people (frequently engineers for some reason) think that some very simplistic reasoning means they know more than the worlds experts. These people refuse to examine the flaws in their responding as their certainty is a matter of identity and not rationality. They conflate knowledge of a phenomenon with a political or technical stance on responses to that phenomenon.

Virtuality is a relative concept and is not limited to computers. There is a lot of it in dancing and reading, but in private ownership of housing, etc. few. It can be measured by the degree of influence on the physical world. Freedom is a politically correct term for evil and stupidity. Prison is an example of freedom. There, the inmates can do whatever they want with each other. Dictatorship brings order and security. Freedom gives lawlessness, drunkenness, drug addiction, etc. We live in a world of limited resources with schedules, duties, responsibilities. One slavery is replaced by another. You just need to choose which one is better. By the way, it is possible that there was no better alternative to slavery, and in vain it is so condemned in the United States. The survival rate in the past in the wild has been quite low. It is known that some Ukrainian ataman lived in a pit for quite a long time. Nearly 100 years old. And Nazi criminals lived in prison for quite a long time. Freedom of desire is incompatible with a world of limited resources. Only the virtual world can give such freedom. It is impossible to live without rules and decrees in the hospital and the army. This is an obvious example. In other places it is not so obvious, but the essence is the same. Nowadays, people get more than 99% of the pleasure from virtual entertainment.

@@chriskourliourod1651 In our time, dictatorship is becoming more important than in the past. Before, people were forced to do the right thing in order to survive. Now the West spends more than half of the resources on nonsense and harm. It has already provided itself with what it needs and does not want to develop correctly further. In a sufficiently technological future, dictatorship is indispensable. Pressing the wrong button can lead to a big tragedy. The world will be like a minefield. Even if the tragedy is not big in the modern sense, people's lives will be valued much more than now. Responsibility for themselves and their actions, awareness of the possible consequences for themselves or relatives for violating the rights of others is observed by a minority of people. Responsibility itself is slavery. It does not matter if it is imposed by others or by oneself. For the right people, there will be no difference if responsibility is dictated to them from above. It will be the same. But how professionally people can do it.
Experience shows that only 1% of people try to observe proper nutrition, and they do it wrong. Freedom is the ideology of capricious children who do not like to learn lessons, but love to play pranks. A proper dictatorship would give people more leeway than the current one. Dictatorship will be in any case. If you do not create the right one, then it will be wrong. The correct one will give more space and maneuver and people will be freer. Restricting people for a little while is worse than forever. Prevention is better than cure. All people are at least a little bad, even the most correct ones. In humans, apoptosis is laid down, as in any other animals, so that more people die out. And extinction is the driving force behind evolution. Therefore, people must be limited so that they do not die out.

Furthermore, seemingly intelligent people frequently pick up bad habits of decision making and make their lives worse. I hesitate to label any person as stupid, but this adjective can easily describe a single action. It is easy to label someone when you only see a snapshot of their behavior and life and don’t understand their priorities.
