This video made me realise how intelligent I am, to the point I started doubting my intelligence due to the possibility of me overestimating it. Doubting it made me even more confident in my intelligence, in fact I am so confident in my intelligence now, that I must be stupid.

      Averages are a funny thing. If ten people take a test, and the results are 100, 95, 95, 90, 90, 85, 80, 80, 80, and 0
then nine of those people can accurately say they score above average (which is 79.5).
Likewise, since it's safe to assume there are more people in the world with one or no arms then there are 3 armed people, it would be accurate for any 2 armed person to claim they have an above average number of arms.
And all that being said... that does sound like something the average person would say.

Actually intelligent people usualy underestimate themselves
Because they view the world as they know less when it comes to knowledge
Its one of the imp qualities which lies within the intelligent minds
Therefore it makes them to be more curious
      Curiosity is another imp quality
And curiosity leads them to seek more knowledge
They know that they know very less thats why they seek knowledge
They never say I know everything
Therefore hence the famous quote for the intelligent ppl

These persons live in a one dimensional world. And since they can only see one concept to them this is solid and of course they will do everything in their power to hold onto this concept and they never question it because to them there isn't anything there to question.
The intelligent person I call this a AWARE PERSON has the ability to look at the same subjects from different sides- exhamain it, question it and because this person can see more than one side -- come to realise that it is possible there is more to this subject what she/ he has seen so far has found out about and that is the reason for doubt.

    • @KostasHolopain
      @KostasHolopain Před 5 lety +12

It's the short explanation of the cognitive bias known as the " Dunning- Kruger Effect" and Thoughty does a pretty good job explaining it!
There's a lot of information on this and other cognitive biases in Wikipedia if you want to check them out.
On the other hand, if you're asking if I personally can provide scientific evidence, I only have my personal experiences and as they are not taking place in a controlled environment with measurable and quantifiable results, they cannot be considered evidence.
However, they mostly do conside with the scientific theories, so I tend to trust them- when they don't, I just dig deeper.

I think the gist of this comment is that a "true" idiot, will be unaware of their idiocy...
While an individual who can admit (to themself and others) that they do not know everything, is less likely to be an idiot.
Of course, any idiot can pick apart someone's statement on semantics alone.

      Let me elaborate then....
Can one fix something that they cannot know it needs fixing?
If one could know and eventually realise (maybe with the help of others) that something needs fixing, wouldn't they start working on it?
That was the spirit of my comment... if one can know they're being an idiot, they can start working on not being one
BTW if you know another word for me to use instead of "capacity", would you let me know?
English is not my mother tongue, so I sometimes miss the mark! Thanks!

Daath Gnosis, I don't think you should ignore the "if". He didn't say an idiot is not an idiot, he provided a condition that if an idiot knew they were an idiot they would not be idiots, which doesn't mean they magically stop being idiots as you might have understood, but rather the impossibilty of their existence in the first place.
