- Many people ask what went wrong with these games... But not enough people focus on what actually went right with them. Fire emblem fates is a conflicted set of games for sure. On one hand, it has some of the best gameplay in the series. On the other, it's a waifu simulator...
Fire Emblem Fates is seen as one of the worst games in the series by the Fire Emblem community. I played through the trilogy recently, and my feelings are... mixed to say the least. BUT. Not all hope is lost... In this video I will outline some of my thoughts regarding these game's ACTUAL quality. It's kind of like a review but not really!
Anyways, I gave all three fates games (birthright, conquest, and revelation) a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Enjoy!

Inikolifive did you ever get to play the heirs of fate dlc quests? They really saved the story for me. Like really turned the games' story around into something excellent

It's not the option of Kaze dying that bothers me, It's that he dies for such an obscure reason that you wouldn't know about unless you looked it up beforehand. (As well as the thing that actually prevents his death being completely random.) Shura's optional death in Conquest at least lays out the choice for you, Those who missed the option of killing Kaze won't know that was a choice to begin with, And those who killed Kaze are left dumbfounded as to why.

-Kaze fucking dies
And I still feel like I felt his death more than the actual rest of the cast. "Goddamnit Kaze! Why did you die?! You had my last master seal, you bastard!" and the cast was like "Waaah, Kaze's dead. Well, lmao, ninja ded, lul"
The fact that you have to get to A support to save him is dumb. The game could've went on without that entire scene and nothing of value would be lost.

This is video is peak performance, truly a magnum opus.
I loved the ever living f_ck of awakening, it was the game I played hours on and brought to college. My friends were also deep into it and with the whole street pass thing it was a blast. Then I finished college, began working at a shady publishing company, dropped that and then began working at a call center. The first thing I did with that money was buy Fates. That game accompanied me on those cold mornings of an unsure work future. Everything about Fates reminds me of playing that game on the lone empty lounge, unsure about my professional future.
That's what I remember of Fates, maybe not much about the game itself but what was around it. I remember liking it but the somber reality accompanied the game a little too much. Thank you for the review, I'm sure I'll play it again but with a better mindset, I'm doing better now that's for sure.

The story of conquest is one of my fav ever don't fight me b/c it depicts Corrin as not being able to let go of their mean father, which is something I struggled w/ and the co-dependancy surrounding that- I love fates and the music is the best in the series, this game had so much passion put into it!

I don’t think this game is as bad as most people think it is, I can even forgive most of the dumb story stuff, but I probably won’t recommend it to anyone outside of the Fire Emblem sphere due to the alarming amounts of incest in this game. Seriously, I even tried having Corrin go for the one story central character who didn’t SEEM to be related to them and BAM!! Surprise Azura cousin reveal late into the story!!
Going for Scarlet would’ve saved my hide a bit for that playthrough, but no, they just had to kill off Scarlet during the Revelations route. I’m still annoyed by that, if Revelations is supposed to be the “get everyone” route, than let me keep everyone damn it
I just ordered a copy of Conquest from GameStop this morning, so this is a well timed recommendation by the good ol algorithm lol
What you said abt buying the special edition is so true. I remember back when the special edition was first announced I had the chance to buy it on Amazon but I didn't and that still haunts me. I spent the months leading up to it's release on restock websites and I never got it. Had to buy birthright and download the others like a chump
Also fates is unironically in my top 3 of fire emblem games. Despite it's flaws, it's the most fun I've had playing an fe game. I think your video really showcased the positives of fates pretty well. It's so hated that I feel like the games are kinda underated

FE games are too hard for me to play, but I love watching others' let's plays, and synopsis videos like this. Out of FE Fates games, I've only watched Birthright and still need to check out Conquest & Revelations. That Revelations track you showcased REALLY DOES SLAP!! Definitely going to check out the Revelations soundtrack!
I played Birthright when it came out at release but never made it past Chapter 22 (I think I died too many times on Classic and got frustrated). After playing two routes of Three Houses, I wanted to come back to it and just finished my first (full) playthrough of Birthright last night! I felt this analysis VERRY much.

This was a good video for someone who has played Awakening and Echoes but not Fates, I guess Conquest is more than good enough for people who like a challenge. I just didn't feel like buying into the whole package at the time.

I love Fates, despite its relatively lackluster story and characters. It really is a testament to just how good the gameplay is.
I wasn’t even aware that the special edition existed until maybe two years ago. Back when I was 14 upon this game's release, I bought all three routes. (I started with conquest) Fates Birthright and Revelations were the first games I bought digitally. I love them, but Revelations did give me Fire Emblem fatigue that lasted until I replayed Awakening in 2023 and then bought a mint Echoes from ebay. I did a replay of Revelations too but I just could not finish it. The last five or so chapters fail to engage me and some of the map gimmicks made me groan, yet I can't for the life of me remember what those was. You’re right, it starts with a bang and sizzles into a whimper. I had the most fun playing the early route and playing matchmaker.

I don't feel like revelation is TRULY that awful. It's mostly just that it has me rolling my eyes at every plot point when the game is trying to take itself seriously. Also, I feel like people exaggerate how bad the map design is. Is it good? No, I'd take the other two games any day. It was passable in my book most of the time though.
This is a really good analysis of some underrated games but since there was no mention of Haitaka, I’ll have to give you a zero out of ten.

The worst part of FE Fates is that the only way to play Revelation physically is to buy the special edition sense the 3ds store is gone😢. So the only way is to emulate it.

I see you are embodying Corrin's (fascinating and perfect) character by not wearing shoes or socks.
As a player it feels like an easy choice but it's probably a lot tougher for Corrin. Tbh if I found myself in the same position replacing the Nohrian siblings with my own I would probably choose Nohr... I mean, y'know... without the potential for romantic attraction to them.

This video is so well made but so little people saw it..
Fates is something really special to me and even though I see its flaws I just can't not consider Conquest one of my favorite games of all time. Beside the story and like 60% of the characters, everything else in this game is fucking perfect. And even the story is, in my opinion, okay by Fates' standards (at least better than Corndogs weewee adventures where he convinces everyone to drop everything that they are doing at the spot and follow him into magical wonderland to kick the ass of someone they don't even know exists until like the end of the game while everything that has been established about the game world is thrown out the window). Corrin is even more of an idiot in Conquest and everyone else seems to be high all the time or whatnot but some of the aftermaths of the battles where enemy soldiers that surrendered were slaughtered actually had some impact, at least until MC Popcorn and his funny crew go like "If we could just do something about this with our legendary sword and dragon powers and world ending magic or I don't know some decent argumentation and prevent these poor soldiers from being killed mercilessly by our evil daddy", and the whole thing with needing to conquer Hoshido so King Neckbeard can put his fat ass in a chair so everyone can see that he is actually a literal pile of shit and realizes that he is a bad person is just so dumb it makes my brain hurt. But it's not as bad as Revelations.
And beside this clusterfuck, the game's world is beautifully visually designed, I wanna go there, all other new generation FE's have the same boring looking environments: Old forest, big open field, big open desert, mountain, great dark old castle, VOLCANO.
But Fates goes like: Asian castle with cool interior design, red carpets, cherry blossom trees, big ass military wall at a lake with cherry blossom trees, this game looks so beautiful.
And the whole my-castle thing also made the cast feel more alive, like they actually do something in between battles. I know 3H also has this but the problem is that it is tied to exploration mode which is nice like ten times and then it's annoying as hell.
The gameplay, map design, the character designs, the visual design of the world THE MUSIC it all makes this game have a special feeling to it that is like probably 80% nostalgia but I swear this could be so perfect. I dream at night of a world where Conquest got the story it deserved and is celebrated as one of the best JRPGs of all time, but that didn't happen and Fates will forever be the hated child that has a banger soundtrack and that one game with good gameplay and that's it. And that makes me sad. Thank you for this Fates appreciation video, I am always happy to have this game get some love from people that actually have taste (because there are some Fates lovers out there that I just can't take seriously). Also this video is just amazing overall, the editing, the jokes, the explanations, everything. Good job my dude

@@Nikolini the Reason for fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

I loved it the game personally! (Mainly because it was my first fe game) but yeah everything could've been better...nonetheless the game has a very special place in my lil heart!
I really enjoyed this video. More than I've enjoyed Birthright. I don't think I'll play Conquest because the plot is moving at a rate of time I can't even begin to describe. I love the grind because I can do it during bowel movements. I hate the plot because I'd rather die than pay attention. I only know that Kana calls Corrin "papa". I have disregarded everything else.

If we're talking strictly from a story perspective, yes, it should have taken them half the time it did to get there. Aside from the siblings and endgame (maybe the opera house too), Chapters in Fates are so often completely self contained plots that mean nothing to the overarching story once they are completed. You could completely remove almost half the chapters in the game and the overall plot wouldn't be affected in the slightest. This isn't a bad thing inherently. This is a video game after all. I don't mind them adding meaningless self contained chapters because more fire emblem = more gameplay = good. No, I don't think they should have cut those chapters out completely, but the story is a much less cohesive and driving force to continue playing because of them. My criticism was not to say it makes the game as a whole worse, but it absolutely makes the story worse.

Btw, If possible i would like to check the old reddit thread "Is Fire Emblem Fates story isn't bad as everyone say?" It really shows how almost everything is wrong with Fates script, kinda funny and sad tho(but the OP also has some picky takes which i disagree)
In the end, Fates is a great game in my opinion (all of them) they have a lot of flaws and qualities (some more and others less), and CQ is my favorite FE game and it's very fun to watch too (Zoran literally makes CQ looks like a joke, the guy plays through the whole game with 4d chess strategies and it works lol)
Unfortunately the story truly dissapoints in all of them, but it doesn't make me like less the gameplay and the modding community is very active too.

well, in 3H you pay the price for 1 game and 25 extra for a meaty DLC, whereas you pay 40 for a route, with the option of paying 40 for two extra routes, and extra 26 for the DLC, and that means you'll only have one game physical since the special edition was scarce from day 1
