      Thanks! It makes me glad that people are enjoying those videos as well, as I spend quite a lot of time on them. That being said, I would've done this one faster if Skydrift let me go in the first place. 😉
      And yeah, autoplay tends to be a little random but sometimes, it works!

    Speaking on behalf of someone that is actively in the community, the entirety of us are quite friendly, and there’s a LARGE mix of people to come find! Despite the three (and Alice) listed as the Cool Kids Club being the fastest, that’s not at all a testament to what this game has. As Surnist said, it’s all a matter of preference!
    I’m guilty of adding to the Alice train myself as someone who plays Clownpiece and Alice. But it’s a chaotic combo that I happen to enjoy, but that’s beside the point. The clips of Megamia are from tournament, however she is actually a double Marisa player online, and usually one of the fastest racers in the community in and of itself. She knows the ins and outs of each track and is friendly to all new players should you have questions. But she’s not the only one. There’s plenty of people.
    And if you’re worried about it being too competitive? Dont be, it may end up that way, but it’s a learning curve that helps and progresses somewhat naturally, you don’t need to sit in TA for hours a day to learn. I didn’t have to, and even then there are people who simply play to have some fun in the lobby with the amount of last word variety there is to choose from! From Marisa’s signature Master Spark that can cross the entire course, or as I dub it, a “Rainbow Colored Stop Sign”, to the intensity of Seija’s Reverse Heiarchy, acting as a pseudo-Lightning bolt that completely removes items, and even last words from everyone in the lobby. Futo has a fast last word that makes everything as chaotic as it can get, providing her 16 Bombs... which in and of itself has a LOT of creativity, with each course having better spots. But that’s for a day of its own. Then there’s characters like Clownpiece, Kokoro and Sanae, with last words that target first place specifically, and Yukari.
    Who cheats. Literally, teleporting people up a few spots, never truly leaving them out of the race
    If you need a break from the chaos, Tenshi and Reisen have last words that grant immunity to all damage, auto activating when you get hit to provide you a break for that brief period of time. It definitely helps.
    Ah, long tangent isn’t it? Simply put this is a community ive come to love, and I know others will too! The matchmaking is free to ping, and even if it’s slow I haven’t seen a day go by without some sort of conversation going on in the server. There’s currently signups for a tournament going on, a 3v3 team tournament where you can grab some friends, or meet new ones, and dive right in! But that may be outdated by the time you read this. It does however, mean that the community still has tournaments to unlock, with natural progression in terms of points and rankings!
    If someone says a character isn’t the best, but you adore them, pick them anyway! Nothing is stopping you from winning, it may be hard at first, but once you have a bit of a grasp, things will be within reach in a matter of time. The ones with higher skill will actively try and help those who wish to learn more, as a Switch Phantasm by the name of Kradfiz also actively slows down in races to show newer players shortcuts, even without being in server! Friendly Suwako.
    And yes.
    You can Mario Kart and be Mario Karted. But that’s just part of the fun of the game, I say, as someone who deliberately ruins first places day as a Clownpiece player. And ruins everyone else’s when I’m in first with an Alice last word. Competitively Chaotic~
    Do join us and our little community of fun. Surnist did a fantastic job representing what the game has to offer for you, and how much fun it is as a whole. Every combo had a spot, it’s just a matter of the way you use them!
    (Note of Bias: Embers of Blazing Hell isn’t that bad... you can use a Cradle (Red Spiral) to hop onto a latter half of the spiral if you use it at the ramp at the beginning after the three hooked curves. The upwards spiral can be skipped that way. This is a cut that will save you some pain. I love the course itself though.)
    I’ve rambled long enough, I just also appreciate this game and everyone thats apart of it! The video is fantastic, and do join with us! Even if you don’t plan on getting it instantly.
    [Also PS4 has no cross play. Make of that what you will.]

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +1

      Just read the entire paragraph and you pretty much summarized everything about the game in one comment.
      Though it's true that Embers isn't that bad, but first impressions can often last long~ 🙃

  • @Hiskov

    Another great video !
    I personally think that it's really rare in general to find Touhou videos of such quality on youtube. You really put a lot of effort into your videos. The editing is excellent. I really like all these little details you hide and these stories you created with the characters in the background. I think a lot of people didn't notice the pretty in-game panoramas of the maps you also made.
    I really like your analysis, you explain really well why racing games are so fun and rich in terms of playstyles, mechanics... Skydrift even pushes us to play characters that are not necessarily our favorites.
    Indeed, the community behind the game is really nice too, it's really cool that they indirectly helped you make this video. It's really this aspect we love in the Touhou fandom.
    Thank you for offering us once again an excellent video ! It's always a joy to watch and I don't think I'm the only one.

      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Hiskov, I'm trying my best when it comes to editing though I doubt the video is perfect. Still, as long as you enjoy it, that's really all that matters!
      And yeah, it's really nice that the community is still active after all those years, it made everything much easier and it's pretty fun to try and beat them at the game. :)

    It's been a while since I last played SkyDrift. Back then the character and map pools were a lot smaller tho. And while I do understand the appeal of the game, it being the only 2hu racing game I know of, it was still a bit too clunky and stiff for me. After all the game is categorically a kart racer and kart racers used to be my blood and soul back in the day. There were however positive surprises. The Hakugyokurou map for instance was super fun and had the de facto banger bgm. Maybe I'll retry the game seeing how much more content it's gotten.

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah, the game used to be a little bit janky, but it's much less stiff now since there are a lot more speedy characters and abilities in general.
      And the maps are definitely the highlight of the game, though it mainly comes from the colour composition since it can be pretty polygonal at some points. :)

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety

      Koishi's last word is a good way to handicap others but Seija's is pretty much unavoidable unless you've got an elixir when it is triggered.
      Though some last words can also protect you from them, so it's not as busted as it might seem.

    I'm actually gonna get Skydrift for the Switch so that I can play it with my sisters and friends. Most Touhou games and Touhou spinoffs and fangames, even the very good ones, I always default to PC. But it's good enough that putting it on a console for multiplayer feels natural.
    The editing is so good...

    • @Surnist
      @Surnist  Před 3 lety

      Thank you, though I believe the editing could have been better but it's better to take everyone else's word. 😀
      As for playing the game on Switch, I didn't have this luxury, but since it's cross-compatible with the PC version, it's still possible to get some games easily. Regarding fangames, that's also because most of them aren't on consoles and are only available in Japanese, so it's harder to get a grasp on them.
