Partick Thistle FC - Scottish League Cup Winners 1971

On 23rd October 1971, Partick Thistle created nothing short of a major sensation in the football world when in the Scottish League Cup Final they demolished the all-conquering Celtic team of that period by four goals to one.
Having led by an incredible 4-0 at half time!
The names run ever so easily off every Thistle tongue:
Rough, Hansen, Forsyth, Glavin, Campbell, Strachan, McQuade, Coulston, Bone, Rae, Lawrie. Substitute: Gibson.
Alex Rae, Bobby Lawrie, Denis McQuade and Jimmy Bone all found the Celtic net, much to the delight of all Thistle fans (and a good few others as well!)
The Scottish League Cup Winning Team were Inducted into the Partick Thistle Hall of Fame on 23rd October 2009.

Great video. My Dad was a huge Jags fan. Today, 10th April, is the anniversary of his death. He always spoke about this game. This is the first time I've actually seen it. Thanks for putting this together and posting it.

Brilliant,
I was there with my mates, 15 at the time, but they were mainly celtic fans, we were facing the main stand, the thistle fans were mainly in the small elevated stand behind me.
I couldn't celebrate the goals or occasion till later, had my scarf in my pocket. At four nil and the tic support were getting restless, thank god my mates did not dob me me in, but what a day it was. Mon the jags

I remember the Thistle team from " the Wee Red Book " when I was a kid. Good to see coloured footage of the game. Some great goals 👏 well done Thistle 👏

Was there that day with my father (a lifetime Jags fan) who had seen the Jags win the Scottish cup in 1921, This 71 side was a fabulous Thistle team managed by a true Thistle legend Davie McParland.

Great wee vid great soundtrack, I am a Celtic fan was not at this game I was 9 it was a great footballing story I was not at the game . I was playing for my boys club came only to be told by my old man it was 4 nil Ht to Thistle and promptly burst into tears.Credit to thistle they beat a great Celtic team but there was some no bad players in the thistle line up. I think we got revenge a few weeks later winning 5-1 in the league. A great era for Scottish football
