- Forget Celtic v Rangers this weekend. I wanted to shine a light on a lesser known Glasgow derby between Partick Thistle and Queen's Park.
I visited Firhill Stadium in Maryhill to watch this top-of-the-table clash in the SPFL Championship!

Rangers and Celtic fans have a lot of affection for the other Glasgow teams. I remember going to games in the Glasgow cup in the 80s as a boy👍

@@paulgorman1305thistle have a decent support, given we have two massive clubs to contend with. Queen's Park don't have many fans but I have massive respect to anyone who doesn't take the easy option in and around Glasgow!

I'm Essex born and bred but my dad grew up a Thistle fan. I was actually mascot for Thistle on boxing day 1987 against East Fife with Thistle winning 4-2 after Billy Dodds scoring all the Jags goals. Been far too long since I've visited Firhill!
This isn't an original observation but your championing of Scottish football outwith the old firm is fantastic. We have such a rich history and it's great to see people, especially non-Scots who've found and loved it for themselves, exploring Scottish football. Keep up the good work!
PS It feels longer but Thistle have only been out of the Premiership for 5 years. Hopefully we'll go back up this year!

A guy called Alex Ferguson once played for Queen's Park. Whatever happened to him? Partick Thistle were involved in the making of the film "Gregory's Girl" back in the early 80's. Entertaining and informative as always, Sam.
I remember Gregory had a picture of Partick Thistle on his bedroom wall and in the football match ,where his crush scores,they were wearing the sky blue Thistle Umbro away kit.
Comedian Craig Ferguson often spoke of his support for Partick Thistle.

An Aussie who has been following the Jags for years. Because of Ange success with Celtic I also look at them but Patrick is my true Scottish team. A real club with great supporters. Thanks so much for vlog. My hope is to go to Firhill with my brother and watch a jags win.
Same I’m in oz first game I ever went to was at firhill wi my brother got on the pitch before the game to take a penalty when I was 8 all I remember was Hercules the bear at halftime jags for life now

Great video, you really captured the atmosphere. Would only point out thistle were in the top flight 6 years ago and not sure if you meant the prem, but the championship doesn't split 🙂
Firhill looked even better when it had terracing. Huge, chunky barriers to lean on and wide terracing steps. Used to enjoy a visit there to watch the Accies. You should look at some of the old photos of it online from the 60s to the 80s.
The great thing about your podcasts is that games all look the same from a fan's perspective despite the size of the arena.

It's exactly like you said at the end of the video. The only thing I knew before was that in the fall of 2020, during the Covid era, Sparta Prague trained at this stadium before the match at Celtic Park. Thanks to your videos, I already know that the stadium is called Firhill stadium and that a completely unknown team (for me) from Glasgow called Partick Thistle plays there. Thanks to your work on CZcams, I know a lot of interesting things about football. So thanks a lot!

You should go to The Woodside Inn on Maryhill Road before the game for a beer and soak up the pre match atmosphere. Get talking to the fans, we are a friendly bunch. Unfortunately I can't make it this weekend but I will be listening on the podcast.

That media box used to be the old pie stall back in the 1970s. My ma wouldn’t let me support rangers or Celtic so I went to see Thistle. Then I moved to mount Florida and for 49 years was a Queens park fan. Nice seeing the old stadium.
You should visit Yeovil Town vs Taunton Town (or any other Yeovil game) - sixth tier football but they will be singing until the 90th minute!

First time I have ever known of Partick and Queens Park in the same league.
Flew in from Dublin to see Thistle v Dundee a few weeks ago...hospitality was excellent, but the game?
Not a shot in the first half, let alone one on target, and it finished 0-0.
Don't hate me, but I listened to Celtic v Hibs on the radio as the one I was watching was derisory... sending off, penalties, VAR the lot!
Yeah, I watched that game on the live stream and it was awful. Week before had been 4-0 against Raith Rovers too!

Atmosphere was probably enhanced by the match being a 19:45 kick off on a sunny bank holiday. I imagine a fair amount of bevvy was consumed.

It would be annoying if queens park win the Scottish cup before Aberdeen, i thought we would havd caught them by now, as of what we did in the 80s, it could have happened this season if nit for being thrown out, but cool if queens park go up to the top tier
