    previous trip - • Overlanding Linville G...
    While on my way from Knoxville back to SC I decided to wander around the hills of North Carolina. While I was exploring I found out that I was rather close to the Linville Gorge area and Old Highway 105 so I decided to check it out. This video originally had more pretty footage of the stuff I saw however it was lost due to technical difficulties. This video showcases more of the boring side of overlanding!! I show what I have for meal on the trail and how its prepared. I show how I navigate from one area to the other and more. I hope you enjoy!

    you're one of the only people I can find that overlands/explores the south east, Tennessee and North Carolina and it is very helpful especially with you having a rig that isn't some crazy Baja truck that people have dumped thousands of thousands of dollars into, you show people just starting out places that are relatively easy and I don't have to worry to to much bout breaking stuff and all the hassle of that. Keep up the good work and hope to see you out here in East Tennessee sometime soon!

    I haven’t added an awning simply because I think it would be a PITA. What you have is simple. The more you add, the longer it will take to setup and takedown. A room would be even worse! Had one on an RV and used it like twice. Lotsa work!

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  Před 4 lety

      You are correct and I agree 100%. The awning is a bit of a pain but after you set it up once or twice you get the hang of it. Never had a room addition so can't speak on it. But in the rain the awning is a a game changer for sure.

    It seems like when I go camping if it is'nt raining when I get where I'm going , it's because it just stopped raining or it's gonna start raing very soon. What you said is true about camping in the rain, you have to just deal with it. I once heard somewhere that "There is no such thing as inclement weather, Just improper clothing." That person may be right, kinda. I think it's possible they never camped in the rain for 5 to 10 days. I like your 4Runner's set up. I was gonna set mine up similar to yours, but my full size spare has to ride inside. It's to big for stock location, and to heavy for me to go on the roof. I'm looking forward to seeing what camping in nice weather is like, I almost don't remember what camping without a tarp is like. I also look forward to our meeting one day out on the trails.

    Is there anything a little bit more challenging up there by Lenoir? Old Highway 105 is great, but not exactly the most challenging. Have you done Maple Sally or Old House Gap?

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  Před 4 lety +1

      I think the road on the other side I did is called old house gap. There isn't much for challenges in this area that I know of or really anywhere that's FS roads. More of the challenges are found in parks or designated orv areas. This is more get off the beaten path and explore pretty areas.

    Your first campsite GPS showed a marker on thr north shore of Lake Tahoma, which is private property and not inside the national park. How did you end up getting permission to camp there? There are private homes where your GPS showed you were...

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  Před 3 lety

      Not sure what you’re referring to but i assure you there are no homes where i was camping!!! There are some homes at the beginning of the trail where you get on off the highway which i may have marked but that would’ve been a marker indicating where to turn off. Also if i remember correctly that road is gated the majority of the year and i was able to catch out when it wasn’t.

    • @SirWilliamGoes
      @SirWilliamGoes  Před 3 lety

      After watching I see what youre talking about. I had already traveled a good bit down that road as indicated by the blue line on the map.
