  • In this episode, we meet our new friend Jay and go camping at old NC 105 at Linville falls!! The road was far more beautiful than it was challenging in our FJ Cruiser and Jay's Tacoma, but we hit a few of the iconic overlooks. Near the end of the trail we visit Linville Falls and get denied a quick swim! What you won't see in the video is all of the hiking that was required to get to these views. Oof there was a lot of hiking. They say it's good for you, but heart attacks are bad for you, so I'm not sure where the truth lies....
    Come join us on day one of our adventure that takes us through NC and all it's beauty. Don't miss next week's video to see Old House Gap Rd and Hurricane creek!!!

    Anybody that drives an FJC is alright in my book. Been taking my stock '08 FJ to the Smokies and the Western Rockies since 2008 and still loving it...and my '77 FJ40 too for around our place. Thanks for some great Smokies scenery I haven't visited yet.

      Thank you for watching! That whole area up near Linville is gorgeous. We just got back from a trip to KY, we ran about half of the KAT. That video will have a ton of beautiful scenery as well as the leaves were changing.

    I finally got to go up on nc hwy 105 to wisemans view to check out the brown mountain lights. Planning on going back over their to camp out along the nc hwy 105 road and check out the brown mountain lights again by the first couple of weeks in October. The fall folate should be turning beautiful vivid colors by the middle of October.

      NC 105 and the whole Linville gorge area is beautiful. For sure a great place to be when the leaves start changing.

      I'm editing the video now. Day 2 should be pretty awesome. It'll likely be longer than our other videos, but there's a lot in it. If I'm honest, I can't wait to watch it either! Thank you for the comment, I'll get the video up soon!

      Was a great time with lots to see and a ton of camping opportunities. We could easily spend a whole 3 day weekend up in the gorge seeing all the things. It's gorgeous!!

    Go there every so often, camped twice! recently got myself an FJ, mind if I ask what wheels do you have on yours? They look sick! 🔥 hoping you do a vehicle walkthrough or something!

    • @EverymanOverland
      @EverymanOverland  Před 2 lety

      The wheels are 18x9 0 offset pro comp 40 series with toyo m/t tires. I recently replaced them with Vision "Flow" wheels in 17x9 -12 offset. Tires are 33 12.50 17 milestar patagonias, I got the whole package from Discount Tire Co. Really happy with them, I've only been in this one outing with them but they seem to have more grip than the toyo m/t tires that were on it when I got it. I did a walk through on the truck shortly after I bought it, just look back in the videos on my channel for an introduction to Janky.... Thank you for the kind words, check out the rest of my videos for plenty more info and shots of my fj "Janky"...

    Looks awesome. Just got my Smittybilt tent on the Sierra. Going to head that way in the next few weeks. Any advice or recommendations?

    • @EverymanOverland
      @EverymanOverland  Před 2 lety +1

      That whole area is gorgeous. Advice for the area? If you don't have reservations, find a spot kinda early, there are a ton of them, but they fill up pretty fast. Advice for the tent? Get an inflatable mattress like the qomotop to add to the factory foam. It's never enough. Next, make sure it's all the way open. Look where the two halves fold together in the middle, there's a Ridge on one side that has to engage a slot on the other side when it's open. That supports the floor. Make sure that rail is engaged. Other than that... 105 is just a dirt rd. It's all about the views. Stop a lot and explore the foot trails, find the awesome views. Have an awesome time!

      @EverymanOverland  Před 2 lety +1

      Well, while no one likely wants to look at me... It's NC 105. It's a dirt road, there's not that much to show. So we stopped a few places to show what there is to see there. I apologize for my face.

      @@travismccraw7805 I'm in the upstate, just moved up here from Charleston a few months ago. Mostly everything you can do that requires 4wd is out of the state. I don't know how aggressive you want your trails to be. Nc105 is just a dirt rd that will take you to pretty places. People regularly do it in sedans. Next step up I'd say is horsepasture rd in the upstate next to Lake jocassee. You could do it in a candy if you were mad at it, but I wouldn't. But most any 2wd truck will be fine. After that, hurricane creek, uwharrie, Windrock... There's lots of places but they're all too far for a reasonable day trip. Are you hooked up with the Venture Unknown guys, or lowcountry toyota Overland? Both are Facebook groups that are filled with awesome people of all ability levels.
