    On 3/4/23, we made our way to Old NC 105 in North Carolina. The main goal was to see all the camp sites they had to offer. I’ve seen several videos about the great camp sites out there. Little did I know, it is super busy there. In multiple places, there were many cars parked along the side of the road where it looked like there hiking trails. Basically, every camp site was taken. I would imagine camping out there isn’t very relaxing or peaceful with cars constantly going up and down the road. There was every type of vehicle found on that dirt/gravel road. It would definitely not be secluded. There was only 1 camp site down a side jeep trail that would be secluded unless there are little backpacking type of camp sites you hike to.
    If you are overlanding and are planning to stop here for a night or two, I’d do it during the week or be there ridiculously early to find a spot.
    Don’t get me wrong. It was worth the drive just to see Linville Gorge and Linville Falls. I’m sure there’s some really good hiking trails too!
    Let us know if you’ve been overlanding or camping here, and let us know how you liked it! My idea of camping and overlanding would not be in this buys if an area.
    If you want to support us on Patreon where you can gain access to our trail/camping locations, etc. as we will no longer be giving that information out to strangers and everyone we don’t know. We have tons of people asking and we want to make sure they are like minded people who will respect the land and not trash it. Also, it takes us a lot of time and research sometimes to accurately locate a lot of these places.

    As a new NC resident, I'll be doing this trail in my tundra. It's easy enough for the average truck and SUV to go on. So kudos for families getting out of the house and off the electronics.

    I'm in ETN also, it's just crowded everywhere. I guess the answer is to go where the weekenders can't. Thanks, enjoy.

    I live not far from this road and have been up there many times including this exact day you were there. That day was honestly the worst I've ever seen it. If you go early spring or during winter (when all the leaves are gone and visibility is best), particularly during the week, its much easier to find spots and its not nearly as crowded.
    Ive been watchint your videos trying to find more spots to ride my 91 4x4 Ranger through. They have certainly been helpful!

      Ya they were handing out parking tickets left and right that day too from people parking on the side of that road but still on the road near hiking trails I guess. It was pretty busy. I’ll have to go back more and check it out! Some of the camp sites did look pretty good, IF you can snag one hahaha

    This past Saturday night 9/16 I drove on old nc hwy 5 north from lynville up to Wiseman view to check out the brown mountain lights. I will most definitely be driving my new Colorado Trail Boss and camping out this fall along that highway.

    I have camped along Old 105 once...was tough to locate a spot, but did find one...and that was on a Wednesday or Thursday. I have been along there twice before, but not looking to camp...but was on a weekend and yes, most all places will already be taken up. There are many people who will arrive during the day on Friday...and some on Thursday afternoon / evenings. By Saturday morning, almost impossible to find a spot. Then you have some locals who will show up mid-week and set up a junker tent to "hold a spot," and never actually show up in camp until Friday afternoon / evening; that is complete BS and should not be allowed. First come, first served !
    Free dispersed camping in North Carolina, in general, is not plentiful...that's a key part of the problem.

    • @appalachhaun_adventures
      @appalachhaun_adventures  Před 3 měsíci

      That sucks! Shouldn’t be able to do that and hold spots while they’re not there!

      @@appalachhaun_adventures - Those two chairs you saw at that campsite down that side path, and you left 'cause you thought someone was camping there....I would not be surprised if that is what someone had done. I don't know what day you were there, but someone could have just left two cheap camping chairs there to deter people. Then they don't show up until a day or two later. If someone ignores it and steals the chairs, it's no great loss.

      That’s true. I like camping to be more quiet and secluded, but that’s just me. I’m sure it’s really nice IF you can grab one of those spots with the views. That’s a lot of work to pack up and head out there to not get any good spots 😂
