"Gimme Chocolate" is often the starting point for reactors, but that annoys some BM fans because it doesn't have the Kami Band or showcase Su's voice very well. I suggest you look at "Headbanger Legend 1997" and you'll get a better idea of what Babymetal does and then "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan".

Another vote for Headbanger (Legend 1997). 1997 refers to the lead singer, Su-Metals date of birth. The concert was 2013 on Su's 16th birthday. The other 2, Yui and Moa were 14. Oh, and the official video of Gimme Chocolate has 144,000,000 views.

3 months ago I didn't know any Japanese bands. Now I can't stop listening to them. Right away I took to Nemophila and Band Maid. But I brushed off BabyMetal after listening to 1/2 of a song. My initial thought was dancing vocalists singing pop style songs and metal music just didn't fit together. After a 2nd try at listening, I started to realize that, because they didn't fit, they fit. It works. Now I can't stop listening to them too. And my favorite parts are the dancing...go figure.

How big are these girls? Around 5 feet tall. Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D Keep reacting to Babymetal and you will se how big they are. Gimme Chocolate doesn't even scratch the surface. They regularly pack 20K plus into arenas especially in Japan and they tour all over the world, including the US. Last month Halford says he would love to collab on a song with them for their next album. They started a whole metal genre that has spawned numerous female metal Japanese bands in the last decade. Metal Hammer rated them the no. 10 metal band of all time. the video for this song has over 140 million views. Yeah, you have been missing out.

I'm not a hardcore Babymetal fan but I do enjoy their performances. They put on amazing spectacles and this isn't even the most elaborate. Rob Halford apparently likes them and I think has performed with them. As far as the number of members, there were 3 girls but one (Yuimetal) had to drop out for health reasons. I don't know if they replaced Yuimetal yet but they have been using backups dancers in her place. They're fun and definitely worth more reactions.

Many metal fans, including musicians, fall back on their traditional understanding and only appreciate songwriting and the handling of the instruments. It is often overlooked that there are so many more factors that make a good band.

You're gonna love Boh the bassist. This song and Awadama Fever is written by the bassist in the Japanese punkband The Mad Capsule Market. At first, I thought you are a metal fundamentalist, or an elite, but I was relieved to hear the reviews. Kiss is also popular in Japan, but well, you are right. For BABYMETAL, I hope you to check out their live videos from around 2014 to 2017. It is said that many BABYMETAL fans are Metalheads, Idol fans, and music fans of all genres. And the age group is high. It is also characterized by having many female and child fans. I may be classified as a music lover (though I'm not so familiar with music). The secret behind BABYMETAL's popularity may be hidden there. They are not pure Metal, but it is clearly different from existing J-pop idols. So it s "What the hell it is!" Thank you from Japan.

Welcome to Babymetal Galaxy, remember to fasten your seatbelt, a wild journey is waitig ahead for you 🦊🤘
_Gimme Chocolate_ is pretty much about fun, eating chocolate while concerning about health issues a little bit, is also the gate for many BM fans back in 2014 ranking up top most viewed BM song, it is either love it, hate it or leaving you with the "wtf" face that makes you confuse about what did you just saw o_O
This was at Legend 1997 (SuMetal 16 birthday, 1997 is SuMetal birthyear) Makuhari Messe 2013 Japan, in front of 8K people, so yeah they were big even back then, but they became bigger internationally thank to this song, althou this a live performance sound is from studio album.
I like your music analysis here, not many reactor does that. You get it right about j-pop mixing with metal, they called this new genre _kawaii metal_
They're officially a trio group, but during certain times one of them leaves the group, so there were only 2 performing sometimes with backup dancers, after that they became normal trio, but that's a long story short here.
Kami Band is a set of elite musicians playing during live concerts with the girls, early days they weren't there thou and you'll see "baby-bones" mimicking and air playing instruments with backtracking music just like in this vid, don't worry you'll hear the real Kami Band power later on during other songs.
I know the dance and the hole concept not many dig it at the beginning but you can't say they're not originals because they were the first doing this. SuMetal was choose since the beggining and the hole concept is around her incredible voice, again you'll see even more of this.
If you want to watch less sugar j-pop style go for _"Road Of Resistance"_ is one of the strongest Babymetal weapon along with Karate from the 2nd album, but if you want to go back you might want to listen some other songs like Babymetal Death live Legend 1997, Headbanger!! live at Legend I, Catch Me If You Can live at Tokyo Dome, Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014, Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischiefs of Gods intro (SuMetal solo), Song 4 (Black Babymetal) and the hole album i guess.
In terms of points is hard on BM bc sometimes you start rankin low and after some time the song keeps growing on you. So suit yourself with points score, i get it thou, just like i get it all about the gimmick thing, don't worry. What BM fans bother the most is the rejection of metalheads throwing trash over the girls because "they're not metal enough", "they're not metal", "they're faking" or "they just a product not worthy to be appreciated". If you watch the amount of metal legends supporting the girls and actually hearing their songs you'll see they're already been bless for everything what they did and accomplished.
Take your time, usually it takes 3 or 4 songs to get to know what is Babymetal and after that you'll decide is either worth it to keep listen or leave it, i'm pretty sure if you love music and metal you won't discard BM, but that's just my guess, thou.
Lastly, don't expect too many performances without the "cheerleading" dance from the girls, althou they have songs without dancing that's not the usual performance, because BM is not only about listen, is a hole experience and dancing is quintessential on them.
Just keep coming back with more BM songs, may the Fox God bless you!🦊🤘

To start with. Babymetal started 2010 and is Suzuka "Su-metal" Nakamoto (born 20 dec 1997) Moa "Moametal" Kikuchi (born 4 july 1999) Yui "Yuimetal" Mizuno (born 20 june 1999)
The band wearing skeleton suits is not a real band they are called Babybones and is just pretending to play, this because in their early days they didn't have money enough to have a real live band BUT in this show the 5 song encore included the KAMI band and are considered as one of the best musicians in Japan.
The idea from the beginning was to blend heavy metal with J-pop esthetics as to be a gateway for young girls to metal music. But it went on to be something much bigger.
The usual reactions use to be
    1. WTF
    2.Kind of good
    3.Maybe some more
    4.I like this
    5.I want more
    6.The foxhole
If you are intrested in something where you can see more of the real band behind Babymetal watch Rondo of Nightmare with Miscief of God intro, is a Su-metal solo so there is just one of the girls.
Their liveshows are always incredible and the lead singer has a stage presence out of this world it was actually how this idea got up when the producer Key Kobayashi saw a 10 year old Suzuka and her strong voice and stage presence that he wanted to test to mix it with heavy metal as her voice would not be drowned by the music so it means everything is built up around her to from the start.

BABYMETAL is the largest garden, GIVE ME CHOCOLATE is the narrowest gate to enter it.
That sensation you feel is the weightlessness as you tumble into the Foxhole.
I subbed to watch as you realize what you fell into!
I'm 57, an old school metal musician and I found BABYMETAL about 5 years ago and I can tell you this, they are my favorite band now.
They just passed 10 years together.
Over 50 songs, ALL of them are great. ALL of them are different.
Biggest, most elaborate concert productions, rivaled only by Rammstein.
They have performed live with Rob Halford (he loves them), toured with RHCP and Stone Sour (Corey Taylor listens to BABYMETAL at home). And that is just start of their list of accomplishments.
1997 is the year their lead-singer, SU-METAL was born, this video is from her 16th birthday party, and just wait till you see the finale from this show. (BABYMEATAL DEATH, Legend 1997), but do a few others first, so you wont be expecting it.

DRAGONFORCE worked on the first album and brought Babymetal in on stage in their huge stadium shows where the promoters wouldn't sign 13-15 year old girls. They have a huge following from 8-80 year old's. Being generous Babymetal let Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Korn and Stone Sour close shoes for them. They did a cool set with Rob Halford and covered Painkiller and Breaking the Law.. Su-Metal is ruthless and plays on her strength. Perfume and One OK Rock are two of the other bands in the Babymetal family. The magicians are covered and might swap out at any time depending on scheduling. Everything is done on a click track in perfect time so there is zero room for any error or you can't help but hear it. It is 10 years of Babymetal and they have broken so many records. They even broke the barrier and had a number one on Billboards World Albums Chart .... Crazy stuff ...

This is from Babymetal Reactor Resource czcams.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/video.html
Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks.
    I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
with links to both the logo videos and the non logo videos and are hosing them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all back up. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt CZcams account before adding to the spreadsheet.
If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non logo videos and the videos with logos:
    No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874
    With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602
For reactors that want to put your own logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVf... or you can use whatever logo you'd like.
You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - sovid.net/ I recommend using the "HD" option when downloading to keep the file size reasonably small.
Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non logo videos aren't CZcams safe.
    Kitsunes UP!

Hey David's reacting to Babymetal - ohhh, it's Gimme Chocolate, this could be an adventure...
I'm arriving a bit late and haven't read any of the other comments so apologize if this is a bit redundant with what others already said (as it probably is).
Gimme Chocolate was their breakout hit that went viral and made them an international sensation so it is their most viewed video but most Babymetal fans would probably concede it is not the ideal song for someone into Metal to start with - Road of Resistance, IDZ (Ijime Dame Zettai) or Headbanger would all be better choices in that regard - even though pretty much everyone does start with Gimme Chocolate since it is the big "hit".
It actually got a much higher score than I was afraid it would - in fact if I'm being honest you scored it far higher than I would have if I was scoring when I first heard it 3 or so years ago (although I look back now and I have no idea what was wrong with me back then - alas it was over a year before I gave them a second chance although happily I eventually did).
I'm sure you've already received walls of text on the detailed history of the band but as to their ages and how many they are - the Legend 1997 concert was held in December 2013 the day after lead singer Su's 16th birthday (she was born in 1997, hence the concert name) - she is exactly 18 months older than Yui who is exactly 2 weeks older than Moa. Yui and Moa both turned 22 within the last month, Su is currently 23. The three of them started as Babymetal together in 2010 when they were 11 and 12 years old but Yui last performed with the group in October 2017, and officially left the group a year later. Since then Su and Moa have officially been a duo using a rotating cast of backup dancers to complete the triangle dance formation (but only Su and Moa sing, or at least they are the only ones with mikes so the audience can hear them). Although over the last 8 months they have done around a dozen performances all using the same backup dancer (Momoko, 18) so their is some speculation she might be promoted to full member and permanently replace Yui.
I would recommend you try Road of Resisitance or Ijime Dame Zettai next. I assume both have probably already been suggested to you many times. Alternatively if you want to hear just how good a singer Su is, No Rain, No Rainbow (probably also frequently suggested) is a ballad and one of the songs Su does alone without Moa and Yui (there were also songs Yui and Moa did alone without Su - the idea when they were younger was to give each girl a break without stopping the flow of the show - now that Yui is gone and Su and Moa are both adults, the no Su songs don't get performed very much although they did revise one of them for their recent 10th anniversary concerts).
Oh yeah I'm sure everyone else has said this but always do Babymetal live with the possible exception of Megitsune.

Went independent 3 years later and now, 11 years later , are considered as one of the worlds top metal bands , much to the disgust of a few narrow minded metal head snobs. Don't judge them on this one song, there are dozens more that are much better, in my opinion. This is generally considered the what the fuck intro to Babymetal. 🦊🦊❤️🦊🦊

You finally got around to them! When they did the ata-ata-ata and running around with hand guns you said "I still don't get this part". I discovered that "ata-ata-ata" is how Japanese imitate a machine gun. And "zukkyun" and "dokkyun" (which they say with their hand-guns pointed in the air) is the sound of a pistol. After World War II the American soldiers entered Japan. To make their presence more palatable, they would offer chocolate to the kids. It did not take long for the kids to learn the English "Gimme chocolate". So the title of the song is from this pop culture reference. At the beginning of the video when they first do the "ata-ata-ata" you will see that Su (the lead singer) is playing the mother - standing looking miffed while the other two are playing guns as children would do. She tolerates the children's play but as an adult she knows the horror of guns. And then the song begins and her face changes. BUT THE SONG HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WWWII - it is just a silly song about eating too much chocolate. But now you also know why the song starts with a salute
Oh yeah - I suggested The song Kingslayer which is by Bring Me The Horizon featuring Babymetal and said therwas a lyric video for that. Well someone did a mashup of BMTH and Babymetal at performing different songs but this person did a great job of making you think they are singing KingSlayer. They actually go hard on blocking (even thought Maximum the Hormone is even worse xD ) but there are quite a few of videos on their official page that are really safe to react to!
Atm MV that are NOT safe to react to are: "GImme Chocolate", "Megitsune", "Karate", "Road of Resistance" live in Japan, "No Rain No Rainbow" live at Legend S. The other videos haven't been blocked till now!
Other safe videos are their festival performances, the good ones are: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" live at Sonisphere 2014, "Karate" live at Download 2016, "Distortion" live at Download 2018.
Any live performance before 2015 is safe to react: the good shows usually are Legend 1997 (in 2013) and Budokan (in 2014).
Any live performance after 2015 is NOT safe unless it's a compilation video from different shows, but not all are well done, so we usually don't really like them :D
Any non-safe video can be reacted to with a little work on it: usually putting a transparent watermark on top makes it safe!
On another note, whenever you see the band in skeleton suits, those are only there for the show, they are pretending: Babymetal started as a side project on a J-Pop group for girls between 10-15 years, and had almost no funding at the beginning, so they didn't always enough money to hire a live band. At the end of this very Legend 1997 show they brought in the live Band known as the Kami Band, and from 2014 onwards they always been supported by this live band.
Yes, they are a J-Pop and Metal fusion, and there are songs that are more towards the Pop roots, and other that are more towards the Metal side. The great thing is that all of their songs are different, and they like to mix any kind of metal type and even throw in other music genres in it! They are so much fun to listen and to watch :D
And last thing: they are not making the metal horns, but the Fox Sign :)

Been a BM fan for 6 years. They were able to blend Jpop and Jmetal together fairly well which made them stood out imo. Catch Me If You Can and Karate are awesome if you get a chance to listen to them. Another great band to listen to is Band-Maid.

"Karate" is already in the que, added your name to the requesters. I don't see "Catch Me If You Can" in the que, so it would have to be a fresh request. You can suggest songs on here, and if your suggestion happens to already be in the que, I am more than happy to add your name to the requesters of that song. However in order to make fresh brand new requests, you have to be a Bronze Tier member on the Patreon page. It's only $5 per month and you can make fresh requests, along with watch all the videos I've done that CZcams blocked and participate in Patreon community events and enjoy exclusive content for Patreon members only.

This seems like a classic example of someone seeing “Gimme Chocolate” and kinda writing them off as a gimmick or a joke. Don’t do that. Go check out their live performances of “Headbanger (Legend 1997)” or “Road of Resistance” and see how you feel.
Edit: okay, maybe “write them off” is a bit of an exaggeration, but this performance certainly isn’t the best example. They don’t have their live band here and the supporting singers aren’t live here either. You gotta see a proper live performance by them.

I second the suggestions of "Headbanger" and "Road of Resistance". The former will convince you of Su's vocals and the pure joy they are spreading, the second will make you a fan. I have been a metalhead all my life, and I have come to realize pretty quickly that the choreographed dancing adds a whole lot to the entertainment value. It's not for everybody, I wouldn't want to see Metallica do it, but it absolutely makes the package more complete and goes a long way to hype up the crowd.
Their catalogue is very diverse, you'll find a lot of different genres and subgenres of Metal mixed together. It never gets boring. And the actual live band is beyond any doubt. I have never had more fun than with this band!

Gimme Chocolate is the hook, Road of Resistance is the catch.
The Live concerts are some of the best energetic and positive Metal you'll see in a long time.
As an old Metalhead, I remember the days of going to Iron Maiden, Metallica and all the other good bands playing Live, having fun, meeting fans.
This band brought that all back to me after 15 years of waiting for something new that's really worth seeing live !! :)
The band's early years in Sakura Gakuin are more kawaii-pop musically, but don't get fooled. It's the same production team, a bunch of Metalheads who stopped making Metal Music and looked to where the big market was at in Japan in 2010. So they made, engineered and produced the pop-songs, formed Babymetal and brought the Metal back to a bigger audience. First Japan and then the World. Respect and many thanks !! :)

First time I saw this video I was confused lol. As I saw more videos and listen to more songs and dived deeper into the Fox Hole I grew to really enjoy them. Their Headbanger Live Legend 1997 was the 3rd song I heard and that hooked me. The Road of Resistance live in Japan got me hooked even more. Then there is Babymetal Death Live Legend 1997 which I sat their speechless and enjoyed every sec of it lol. One of the many things I enjoy about them is you never know what your going to get with each of their songs. They can be very Jpop and then next song Death Metal. The Kami band playing behind them are fabulous. Their live versions for me are always the best. You should try to Keep watching more songs by them and get a better feel. There is also Baby metal video guides out there if you really want to jump down the Fox hole and learn about their origins. They are a very interesting combination of genre that some how works .They been around now over 10 years.

The best Metal song ever about eating too much chocolate. 🦊🤘🤘🦊 Not sure if they're Metal? Have a look at the final song from this concert, 'BABYMETAL Death', which is as Metal a finish to a show as anything I've seen Metallica, Maiden or Rammstein do! It is the opposite end of the Babymetal spectrum from Gimmie Chocolate but is still representative of how well this genre that their producer invented, Kawaii Metal (Cute Metal), really works. I began my Metal journey seeing Sabbath in 1976 and it temporarily ended when I saw Babymetal in Feb 2020 and I'm sure you'll 'get it' with another song or two.
