- Is the cap to your fridge water filter cracked and your filter now stuck in the bottom of the fridge? Here's the fix I used.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I couldn't figure this out on my own, and have just been living with an expired filter for a VERY long time. Thank you so much. Solved the problem immediately.

Thanks from a very old man who hardly knew a filter from an ice cube tray. My old filter was stuck; couldn't press the button and have it pop out. I watched your video, was able to get the bottom cover off the unit, pop out the old filter and now I'm about to insert the new filter, which has a "ridge" down one side of it. I hope that doesn't give me trouble in the installation of the new filter. But I would never have known how to remove that bottom, black cover and replace it, nor that I could easily remove my seemingly stuck old filter. Thank you! Thank you! I wish all people with knowledge for such things would share the "how-to" with the clarity that you've shown.

Very helpful video. My filter was kind of stuck so I broke my replacement filter cap. I found that if I made a lasso/noose of wire (twine or string may work as well) and hooked it around behind the tabs that the cap latches to it was easy to pull the old filter off. If you use string you can wrap it around the filter a couple of times for a better grip.

Yup... thanks for the video! I have a Kenmore-Amana fridge. A similar issue.
The filter is at the bottom of my fridge but has a little door that you open and the filter pops out as it is grabbed by little "grabbers" that pulls it out. There's several videos right here on CZcams that shows how easy it is! And it IS easy - if it works.
Your solution is good. Take the grill off then grab filter with vice grips. Pull. It pops out.

Ok. A little update. I initially thought taking off the grille would help with a similar issue. One thing taking off the grille DID do was expose the catastrophe under my fridge! I should've taken pictures! I have had dogs and cats as housemates for years - imagine the fur and dust! I know the manufacturer says to clean/vac underneath, but . . . I didn't pay any attention to the mfg suggestion.
My filter is contained in a slightly different housing. Mine has a little door that snaps open when you pull on it. A little (white) arm "grabs" the filter and pops it out. That's the way it's supposed to happen.
The little white arm DID NOT grab the filter. I fiddled with it, and it fell off. So, I tried pulling the filter out with my fingertips. No good. Tried channel lock pliers. Nope. I had to figure out a way to pull the filter out. I tried a strap wrench but couldn't get it around the filter. (It wouldn't have worked anyway since you're not supposed to twist the filter.) I searched the Internet for any tool that might allow me to get the darn thing out. Then, I ran across pick and hook sets in the automotive sections of major box stores! I picked up a set at Harbor Freight (I get no commish), and, lo and behold, I could snag the side of the darn filter and pull it out. It was stuck, tho. I actually had to use force to get it out. I replaced the filter, shut the door, put the grille back on, and ordered a replacement for the filter housing!
That was a long explanation, but I'm still a little miffed 'cause manufacturers really cut corners when it comes to these things. No reason companies as large as Whirlpool, Amana, Coldspot, LG, etc., can't make filter replacement less traumatic for regular homeowners.
Again, thanks for your vid. It got me started down the rabbit hole, fir sure.

I think we have the same fridge! I had that problem recently. I think I used a flat head screwdriver to depress a tab near the canister and I removed it.
I hope this helps you Richard if you ever run into this scenario again. If my new cap breaks as well I'll be researching this video in the future no doubt.

LOL yeah it was only when I edited the video I noticed some hanging cobwebs missed my first cleaning. You should have seen the nightmare fuel that was in there before I cleaned!

I have a stove with a 1 cm gap along whole width against the wall. Perfect design. Can't slide out to clean and collecting dust, crumbs from toaster, etc🙄

I got the panel off but can't grab the old filter. I guess its really stuck - I don't have plyers that open wide enough to grab the old filter. Any other suggestions? My cap broke, like you show in the video. I wonder a new cap will work to remove the old filter. Thank you.
Is it possible to coax it from the back by sliding a flat screwdriver into the rear and see if it will push out? The little clasps on a replacement cap should grab it as a final resolution.

If you can get that front panel off you should be able to reach around back of the filter tube no matter what size it is, I think

The release on the side of the filter will not stay in. What do I do?
You mean that button you push to make the filter pop out? Maybe see if there's anything stuck along the grooves of the new filter stopping it from going all the way in cuz that button should click outward a bit to indicate you can push it again.

Hmm not sure. Assuming you have the tube exposed like mine got, can you not grab it with your hands and gently pry it loose?
Water pressure low after I change my filter.. please help!
It might not be fully plugged in? I find with ours the pressure is low until we run about 5 liters (more than a gallon) through it.
When you take the plastic cover piece off and if you can't take it out with your fingers are a flat head screwdriver just use some tool like a vice grip and pull that shit out
