The outside says V-Rally Edition 99 and is a clear, Game Boy Color-only pak; the inside says V-Rally Championship Edition and there is a black, Game Boy *or* Game Boy Color pak with 'V-Rally Championship Edition' on the outside too, though released in '99; in-game things are almost identical but there are subtle differences, such as the middle road line in that first course being single dashed not double continuous. The degree of visual similarity makes me think this GBC-only edition of the game didn't make as much use of the GBC functionality as it could have.
Interesting! I didn't realize there were such details under the graphics... thanks for the info!
It's actually good you removed them from the boxes as the paper and card board may contribute to lead rot, an affliction that affects Star Frontiers minis unless they were the ones sold at Sears which required better quality lead. It's also good that you covered them in paint as this helps seal off the lead from environmental acid which causes lead rot.
Ahhh that's a relief, good to know. Thanks Tom!

Where'd you get the cool tumblers and Johnny Walker bottle? They look like props.
The tumbler can be bought off Amazon, it's called a Chibi Bicciari and it's 37 Cl although now they can be a bit pricey, like over a hundred bucks just for one .. the bottle was a limited run item someone at The RPF (Replica Props Forum) was doing five years ago and sadly they don't make them anymore.
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 Thank you. Yeah I found them on Ebay. Very nice glasses. As most Gen Xers, I'm forever fascinated with this movie.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 absolutely! and cheers to that
Thanks for showing this. I was starting to lose hope that people actually still play this game. We really need human players online because there is no AI chess or checkers.
My pleasure! How is the game today? I gave my PSVR1 to my sister so I can't test if this crowd still shows up on a Saturday now.
would you recommend this book as a necessary component of running SF? Or can you just run games with Alpha Dawn and Knight Hawks
I really like the improvements they made, especially with combat. "Necessary"? No but highly recommended if you can get it.
I'm starting to learn SF. It'll take a while before I feel comfortable enough house-ruling stuff
Is anybody try this methood using lcd tv ?? Is it work ?
I actually like this game. The AI cheats (it always does maximum damage, has +1 movement and is very good at placing large missiles where you don't want them). This makes it quite difficult depending on the map and which units you've both selected. You should ALWAYS choose Cross-Fire on every map. Planes don't do anywhere near the damage required, they're basically scouts and you will always lose in a head2head battle because the AI cheats. Therefore Submarines with Large Missiles are the only real way to ensure that you do maximum damage. Plus, submerged submarines can't get touched by planes, battleships and large missiles. The scary music when the AI is taking their turn, hoping you don't take a hit always draws me in.
hmmm I should give it another shot in that case, sounds like I missed something, thanks for the info :)
SF-0 needs a lot of work to make it workable. It is highly linear, but the guys making it were linear play types.
Yeah I suppose that's true enough. Maybe coming from dungeon crawlers made them a bit gun-shy when it came to tech based adventures and tons of freedom.
I remember you talking about No Man's Sky a while back and it made me want to try it. Got it as a gift not too long ago but haven't got round to trying it yet due to computer issues. Looking forward to trying it soon though! That's a pretty cool idea for a night light or something like that. Would be nice if you could get an offical one which was a little bit bigger with a built in light that was touch activated maybe.
oh you GOTTA try it Swifto! this game is amazing! I also like your idea of a touch-activated version of this light
Space stations as christmas tree balls need to exist, its actually such a cool idea

This was it -- czcams.com/video/Os84IpZNrD0/video.html
Interesting! Thanks Nick, I'm going to look for videos about that one.
One of the best racing games ever!!!!!!!!
Totally! I love it!
Reminds me of the Traveller map you can see online. IT has EVERY system mapped out, and there are THOUSANDS of systems. and the really cool thing is that you can zoom out to the point of viewing the entire galaxy, and these THOUSANDS of systems appear as a tiny blob of red. Cool video :).
Very cool, I didn't know Traveller had one. I'll have to check it out.
In my take on Knight Hawks you erect a void field around the ship which warps space and allows for faster than light travel. Unfortunately, in doing so the space inside the field begins to unravel which can prove hazardous to the ship and the health of the crew. Every 10 light years does 1d6 damage to the ship's occupants. So despite being able to go many times the speed of light, you still have to travel in short jumps to safely get from place to place. While messing around with this, I too found myself wondering about the size of the galaxy and what it would take to cover it in a single jump. Turns out it would take 15 days to go from end to end and do 10001d6 in damage to each crew member. So you can do it! But you'll emerge as a subatomic stew on the other end. Space. It's a big place :-)
Crikey Jerry, travel in your universe sounds quite painful LOL
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 Nothing is ever easy. Even getting from here to Alpha Centauri.
At 10 hours per light year to plot a jump, how long would it take to traverse Maddox Road in its entirety? ;)
Our public library showed this episode sometime in the 70’s…I was amazed at the quality(35mm film I assume) and loved it…A small library in Merritt Island Fl
Ive seen some Trek on film at a convention in the 80's ... they look incredible! I hear that was a Desilu suggestion and lucky for us it means an awesome original base from which to make Bluerays and 4K transfers here in the future.

@@DowntheRabbitHole0 And, honestly, given the visuals and menu designs and such there, it's clear they could have gone quite a bit further too. But they did a great job regardless. Hey, I remember watching your video a long time back regarding the original Johnny Walker Blade Runner bottle that you had manufactured. I don’t totally agree with those whiskey guys regarding the Director’s Cut version and Double Black. The quality of the Director’s Cut version is quite a bit better because they use higher-quality whiskeys for the blend. There’s definitely a difference for sure. Regardless, I had a bottle of the original whiskey and when I typically get down to about a third of the bottle, I transfer it over to smaller bottles to make sure that it doesn’t oxidize as fast since there would be more air than liquid in the bottle (FYI: whiskey aficionados normally say the last two “Fingers” always taste different/off compared to the rest of the bottle). I have three 60ml bottles of the original Director’s Cut whiskey, and I wouldn’t mind sending you one assuming that you’ll accept a random bottle of random whiskey from some random stranger. Let me know if you’re interested!
ABSOLUTELY! How much? Also, it's worth noting I'm in Canada so wherever you're shipping from it might get pricey. I always like to warn folks in advance.
Just sent you an email!
wish their was a background mode where it would just show the stage and play the music. Something a little more chill to leave on in the background!
Yup I could see the appeal of that. And I'm sure they could do some kind of a firmware update to make it happen. But all these years later, I doubt MyArcade would bother.
Best with a piece of ice and sipped after a drink of a good beer. Super tasty.

@@DowntheRabbitHole0 21st amendment is a good beer. Follow a taste of that with a sip of red. I like it.
Seems not fun, but very educational in terms of programming. I'm most certain that it's written in assembly language. Would be fun to re-write the game using PyGame (or any graphic engines) with LOTS of improvements in a PC.
Agreed, maybe with a lot of time in it I might find some more cerebral fun in here, a Battleship of the Mind or something but so far it's not doing it for me.
With 2 spinners and 2 joysticks, this is the greatest 2 player game ever. Trust me!
I can believe it, weird controls but definitely fun.
The fact that this game also has a detailed cockpit view makes this an even more impressive racing game for the system.
