@@jerryborjon I can see Monolith pulling out a better version of Xenosaga. The world (or galaxy) is pretty nice, but the pace is awfully slow. There's almost too much cutscenes and the combat takes a long-ass time to end. At least the first game is like this, I lost my 40+ hours save data and don't have the will to go back and do everything again.
I would rather a game company not push out a mobile game budget remake to begin with.

Should add how amazing they implemented NG+ in this. It keeps the old file instead of saving over it and lets you keep all of the items and abilities even if you *choose different characters* Meaning the NG+ rewards you get from the previous three characters can be equipped to the new three thanks to shared party abilities.
I loved tossing Kevin's +50 atk on Chawette at level 1 but I especially loved having all those left over ??? seeds to transform into class items for the new characters. It cuts down the grind and made sense that post game continued to toss them at me.
It's even better now, because there's an option to let you reset to level one for everyone, but keep all the skills. And there's even harder difficulties now, for everyone (myself included) that thought the game was too easy.
Still not a perfect game, but it is a damn fine one, and this recent patch made it even better.

I know of some comics from the advent of the internet (as in Late 90s to early-mid 2000s) that hold up surprisingly well by today's standards.
Though for some reason I still can't exactly understand, Reisz was a very popular character (mostly for corruption P0®Π) and Angela is almost entirely absent from Doujins altogether. Maybe Half-Naked Magician Girl is too obvious or something?
@@lannobile7260 Can't talk for "before the internets" but Reiz and Deedlit were popular regardless of one big problem. Their names are often mispelled, which leads to no reults, so they became some sort of "elf postergirls" back then because it was easier to find them using their race as keyword. When a character become the face of such a generic keyword, the works around them just grows out of proportions compared to more specific names and results, because even not knowing the series or character name one would still go for a cover having one of those characters on it.

Beware the original has bugs that can hinder your game,like luck stat not working properly and non existant crits turning some classes abilities useless.
If you care,try finding the patch that fixes those and adds several other fixes
@@lexzeyfercronus Only the patch makes things that were broken already even more op. Even the guy who made the patch didn't intend for it to be used without a hard mode he also made. Some of it were probably things that were just turned off in code, they didn't have the time to make it work properly and just decided to not include it. This is speculation of course. But things like death hand having a properly working energy ball... Yeah that's not okay. The problems in the original lie elsewhere and are not fixed by the patch. The patch just makes things even more unbalanced. Which is why it's creator never intended it to be used without a more comprehensive overhaul of the game accompanying it.

Square Enix "We learned that the fans have really high expectations and desires towards titles in this series." Compared to the very low performance on the Secret of Mana remake, any expectations from fans would appear really high, i think they just had expectations for a good quality remake.

Unlike in previous decades or generations where media was specifically created by a certain demographic for a certain demographic (ex. Asians and North Americans making video games which appealed to other Asians and Caucasians/whites), now you see POCs/ethnicities, members of LGBTQ and any other forms of intersectionality becoming more interested in these forms of media. To adapt, creators need to appeal to those incoming demographics before which leads into more diversity and representation, thus garnering a more diverse audience. Does that make more sense now?

ShyGuyXXL - I definitely agree with Nerrel here. There’s nothing wrong with Fanservice in moderation, but when female characters cover up less than half of their boobs, you have a problem. The least they could do is integrate their outfit choice with their personality. It doesn’t really make sense to have an otherwise reserved girl wear things that would make a stripper blush. Nobody wants another Pyra.
Execution and budget aside, this seems to be one of the most fascinating remakes ever. Like a mix between Crash and Spyro or Link's awakening or Pokemon 1:1 recreations and Final Fantasy VII style full reimagining. It feels like the same game not an entirely new one, yet it feels completely modern(well low budget PS3 JRPG modern), and not like a clearly reskinned retro game.

I welcome the fanservice as I wanted a mostly faithful remake and that's exactly what I got.
Really liked the game. While there's plenty of things to improve, one of my main complaints is that it's too easy, even on hard, and that New Game + keeps your level but doesn't bring any additional challenge to take advantage of the extra strength and skill points.
Your deadpan comedy is what I appreciate most. Thanks for the mammaries. xD
Why is fanservice a "problem?" If I have to see a character for a long game, why not have them be eye candy?
If there is too much fanservice on screen it gives the impresion that the product is only trying to keep afloat by cheap eye-candy tactics and puts to question if there is any sort of quality beyond that.
Like a mobile game that right away thow you waifus in your face to pick up, as they are self aware their game dont hold any other appeal.
However, in this game you could hardly call fanservice, as characters were already sexualized in the original. I mean, they are being faithful in said regard.

A) Not sure how your Class Strikes miss, certainly not as much as you would imply. I have the opposite problem in my runthrough, of Class Strikes WILDLY auto-targeting when they really should have missed. I become mini-Dark Souls bosses whenever I fired them, turntabling like a DJ on a Lazy Susan. The rare times I do miss, its because (as shown in your video) I'm not level with the enemy, usually a result of trying to hit a fling enemy.
B) 7:54 These sound effects aren't part of the game. In fact, a criticism I had was that it was LACKING sound effects. Even as a joke, it's in poor taste for a video maker to edit scenes like that.
C) 1:23 Probably my most vehement criticism, as the fucking nerve to go "Fanservice makes the game dated." to what amounts to a one-to-one remake. A game that already wasn't shying away from fanservice (Angela slept in the nude in the OG Trials, try removing the sprite layers in the inn next time, and I don't think people were making Riesz porn cause of how tasteful her costumes became). Anyone saying that "making games for and by 13-year old boy" criticism in Current Year + 5 should probably take the stick out their ass.
Overall I agree with the sentiments (that Zehnoa boss fight is fucking cancer, even with proper AI management to get your allies to attack the boss. Good luck doing it without water magic) but even I would say this isn't a great review.
I finally finished my save on this game leading up to Visions of Mana. This was so good.
It’s not like final fantasy remake? I’m sold. That wasn’t a remake that was nomura turning ff7 into kingdom farts. Sure it looks good but some of the characters are off and the last thing ff7 needed was to be more convoluted. They ruined the pacing, plastering Sephiroth all over the place and filled the game with padding.
Not to mention by the time people get the full “experience” they’ll have paid hundreds of dollars and waited decades. And to top it off they spit in the face of fans by using them as meta fart ghosts, just because they expected a remake to be…you know a remake. Not a reboot or reimagining.
Nomura isn't responsible for FF7R being a weird alternate-timeline narrative instead of a remake; that was actually Yoshinori Kitase's doing. Nomura wanted the game to be an actual remake, Kitase wanted an all-new story for whatever reason, they couldn't agree, and Kitase won because he has more authority.
This quote from Nomura would disagree with you. There is plenty more where that came from. He gets a lot of blame because the ff7 remake has kingdom hearts written all over it. His influences are pretty clear. I know he wasn’t the only one wanting to change the story. Unfortunately not enough people spoke up to talk some sense into them.
“I can’t share too much for now, but it won’t be a simple remake,” says Nomura. “If we were to simply just make the graphics look pretty for the new generation consoles, I don’t think it could surpass the original version. If that’s what you wanted, I think it’d be enough to just play the original International version on PlayStation 4, and it would be satisfying enough.”
“I often hear from fans that simply giving it better graphics alone would be fine, but if that’s all you want, then the previously mentioned Final Fantasy VII for PS4 would suffice, and with that, we’d have a ‘slightly better-looking Final Fantasy VII’ and a ‘much better-looking Final Fantasy VII,”
“I think if it came down to that, then there’d be no reason in doing a remake, and while it may be difficult, we’re already prepared to doing it right if we’re going to do it at all. I’m sure some of you may feel uneasy about this, but one thing I can say, is that it won’t be boring, and we’d like you to wait and look forward to what it will turn out to be.”
“Final Fantasy VII is special, and simply making the graphics better-looking won’t ‘surpass’ the [original] game,”
@@7milesdavis All of those quotes are him saying that updating the graphics would not be enough to justify the remake's existence (which is true, as a graphical update without anything else is not a remake; it's a port); that does not mean he didn't want the game to still be a remake. Not to mention, those quotes are from promotions, where he has to be a lot more political in how he talks about the game.
Meanwhile, in an interview in 2020, Kitase mentioned that he wanted the game to go with an all new story while Nomura wanted the game's story to be as close to the original as possible:

That's as blatant as it gets: Kitase himself outright said that _he himself_ was the one who pushed for the changes while Nomura wanted to keep the story as close to the original as possible.

Boom from Kitase himself. Right there, I don’t think you can argue with that. I know people worship Nomura like he is some kind of Jesus, but his ego got the best of him here. He wanted to make a better game and he failed. A chance of a lifetime and he botched it, they all did. Even if Kitase was pushing Nomura to change things, he could have said no. He was in charge too. He had a lot of power here.
I think most fans assumed they would update the play style and not just modernize the graphics. I think the game looks and plays great (when you aren’t forced to play padding). That part is pretty awesome. The story however is not. The story is the reason 7 is so iconic.

I have never played a Final Fantasy game before 7 Remake (I bought it thinking a modern remake of FF7 would be a perfect starting point only to be disappointed by an alternate-timeline plot that's impossible to follow without knowing the events of the original game) and I do not see Nomura in any regard whatsoever; high or low, as, aside from FF7R, I haven't played a single game he directed; only knowing that the prior few games he was involved with (KH3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII aka FF15, etc.) suffered horrific development nightmares for reasons outside his control.
They must have patched the Zehnoa fight or something because I was worried about it but then just breezed through. I came back to this review specifically to see if I had misremembered something.
Come on, the fanservice is the best part of the remake, so harmless, everyone wins

Yay, it's good to see some more in depth reviews popping up for this game. After the usual casual IGN-like reviews of people having played the game for about 4 hours. I really hope there will be more support for this game in the form of updates.. the ridiculous bossfight you mentioned is a very good example
There's literally nothing wrong with fan service, as long as the game is still good I'm down for buff sweaty dudes and busty chicks in my games.
I like the modeled characters in this 3d rendition. Original game had stills and palette swaps for the sprites which was pretty good for SNES.
