- A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing on a train in south London.
British Transport Police (BTP) said they received reports of two men fighting between Beckenham and Shortlands railway station shortly before 4pm on Wednesday.
Footage shared on social media showed a male wearing a black hooded jacket, black trousers and a face mask holding a large blade, while onlookers could be heard telling him to stop.
Former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley joins TalkTV’s Vanessa Feltz to discuss the state of soaring knife crimes in Britain.

There is ZERO use in banning all types of knives, when 99% of knife crime is done with KITCHEN knives. This proves that knives are NOT the problem- parenting, schooling and education is the thing that can stop this. Blanket bans on knives NOT USED in knife crime is ridiculous. Get the police to crack down on gangs. Educate the kids in schools.

The knives are already banned, it's illegal in the UK to carry around anything more than a tiny penknife and evidently the law isn't an effective deterrent. The sale of knives is also restricted to over 18s, that's about as far as legislation can go. Knives are not the problem, they are utensils/ tools that normal people need. What needs to be addressed are the reasons for this 'IDGAF' mentality arising and what's behind so many individuals having violent intent.

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what banning actually achieves. You seem to believe that the government thinks banning knives magically makes them disappear.
The point of banning something isn't to magically make criminals stop carrying them, it's to make it so that carrying them is a crime that can actually be punished instead of the police having to wait until somebody is stabbed (and possibly killed) before they can act.
That's the whole point of the Offensive Weapons Act. To enable the law to remove weapons from the street BEFORE they can be used to commit crimes, rather than having to wait until after the damage is already done.
As far as pepper spray goes, you fail to realise that every tool you give people to "protect themselves" just as easily becomes a tool to victimise people. Have fun getting pepper sprayed by criminals who, in your world, would be allowed to carry it around with them freely while the police can do nothing about it. Carrying your own pepper spray to "protect yourself" with isn't going to do you much good when a mugger jumps out and sprays you long before you have a chance to even react (let alone "protect yourself").
Despite what you seem to think, the approach of taking weapons off the streets has proven to be a lot more effective than _introducing more weapons_ (as you're suggesting) would ever be.
I know a lot of women around where I live who would carry pepper spray for protection and use it on the very first person who flips them off in traffic. While I agree with you I also see that as a society it would be a disaster in itself.

The west has below replacement level fertility for 4 decades now. Ppl aren't having kids.
There are more old white ppl than children. More white ppl die then are born in most countries. About a third of the population is over 65.
Marriage and family formation is at all time lows. Children out of wedlock all time highs. Now more black kids go to university then whites as a proportion. White boys from poor backgrounds do the WORST in schools.
More young white ppl identifies as LGBTQ+/trans now. (It's legal in the west, so I'm comfortable with that). But they statistically have fewer children.
There is huge national debts/gdp. They have been fighting wars in muslim countries iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and quiet wars in African muslim countries. (What did they achieve? Why did they truly go to all these wars? Who will truly benefit?.....ohh you, your children and grandchildren (if you had any) will pay for these wars from YOUR tax money)).
So with all this going on, in 20 short years time who will look after the old in the west? Where will the young ppl be, to work and pay taxes to support the NHS, adult social care, pensions etc....there will be MORE old white pensioners then young white ppl that work and pay TAXES.

In Europe,Italy, France, Czech Republic, Spain, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Serbia and Russia all allow for possession of pepper spray without a licence and Switzerland, Germany, Finland and Portugal allow possession with a licence. @SubjectiveFunny Around 2013 Sir Richard Greenly WON an appeal in the high court to own a handgun for protection of his property on a section 5 licence {prohibited weapon}. The home office refused his application but the judge ruled its still the common law and the firearms acts havent changed that. The home office just decided around 1954 to no longer allow gun ownership for self defence,without any power in law to do so and it just became established.

We have laws in place to prevent people from owning and being sold knives if they are not not of legal age, and the carrying of knives over a certain length and type in public without a valid reason. The laws wont prevent these incidents from happening. Young people need to learn the value of life and general morals. Armed robbery use to be common as many didn’t mind serving 1-2yrs for £15-50k. Big money back in the day. Then it was mandatory 15yrs in prison and it reduced dramatically.

Black on black crime in general, where it is racist to do 'stop and search'. But schools are a place of out of control bullying, drugs sold in and outside schools. Minority areas over run with knife, guns, drug and robbery/mugging crime caused by supplying drugs to the Middle Classes where the gangs flourish. So kids clearly want to protect themselves as our Police are failing so badly, troops are being deployed onto the streets in many Western countries. It is bordering on civil war as the violence esculates and the state fails. The people have no choice but to arm themselves, the state no longer protects them!

Irreversible decline.
Legalising illicit drugs is such a dumb idea. Generally the drugs end up more expensive which will still leave a vacuum for illicit drugs and possibly incentivise addicts to rob even more to afford their fix. Also, ctiminals often end up being the ones running the legal drugs industries and use that profit to invest in other criminal activities which are more profitable, such as human trafficking. The idea that you can stop someone getting a knife or making a makeshift one is absolutely mind boggling.
Maybe it's time to admit it isn't possible to disarm the entire public, only good law abiding people, who are not the problem anyway. 🤔
