  • In today’s video, we take another look into some of the most commonly asked questions in regards to modifying your car and more specifically the UK road law.
    Joined by MPS Owen Messenger ( a keen car fanatic himself - message attached below ) we dive into some seriously hot topics such as flamer kits, big turbos, declaring modifications, drink & drugs and much more.
    A huge big thanks to Owen Messenger for getting involved and answering everyone's questions.
    Big plans for future videos so don't forget to subscribe to be kept up to date with new videos.

    Lights - please note where it says ‘anything that looks like a blue flashing light’. If for example you have blue fog light covers and are driving along a bumpy road this could look like a blue flashing light.

    S4 Road Traffic Act - unfit to drive through drink or drugs. This offence does not require a limit. The safest way is to not drink at all. When investigating unfit through drugs we look for a vast number of drugs in bloods, not just cannabis and cocaine.

    Exhaust gases from an external wastegate must be routed back into the exhaust system BEFORE the catalytic converter if one is required to pass the emissions test.

    A short message from Owen.
    Wow, such an amazing response to the first two videos, thank you, we never expected this. Thank you also to those who left constructive comments or questions, I do try and read them all. I will try and answer as many as I can but we only have time for so many. We can’t cover every make or model of vehicle. For instance, if your car didn’t have a catalytic converter from the factory, clearly it won’t need one now.
    What George and I are trying to do is give you information and advice around what you can and can’t do to your car. The legislation/law is complex sometimes and things like the Flamer Kit Act or Screamer Pipe Act don’t actually exist but are covered under the Construction and Use Legislation and/or the MoT Manual in some way with regards to exhausts. I have tried to keep things as simple as possible for you to make it as clear as I can. We could argue all day about semantics or whether we agree with it or not but the fact remains that it is there so we have to comply with it.
    We are doing this to try and help you make the right decisions on what you do to your car. This isn’t a PR exercise or about persecuting modified car enthusiasts, it’s about making you aware of why sometimes we have to deal with issues and what you can do to help avoid yourselves getting stopped or in trouble.
    As in many walks of life, it is the minority that let down the majority. You asked why the car scene was frowned upon and a lot of the time it is because of the behaviour of the minority spoiling it for everyone. If people not into the car scene see modified cars being driven poorly then they see the whole scene as a problem. There is a place for doing wheelspins and doughnuts or driving at speed but it’s not on the public roads. Race the track, not the road if you want to see what your car can do. Motorsport is dangerous but the track at least limits that risk to an extent.
    Unfortunately, we do have to go and clear up when things go wrong which happens a lot more than you think or people will tell you. It’s something that I hope you will never experience. It is also why we are passionate about reducing casualties on the road. Sometimes enforcement is our only option but we are under no incentive either financially or performance-wise to issue tickets. We don’t make the laws but we are obliged to enforce them as we have a duty of care to the public.
    Stay safe and I hope you enjoy the video.

    What I absolutely love about this series, is how informative it is as well as being interesting. I think police working with car content CZcamsrs has been a long time coming. I’ve always felt the police have missed a trick when it comes to working with people in the car scene. Amazing work 👍🏼 I am all for having fun, as long as it is safe. As they say ‘ it’s all shits and giggles is until someone giggles and shits’.

    • @altbergp1930
      @altbergp1930 Před 3 lety +6

      Pull over when safe. Engine off and key on the dash. Window down and give licence or details when asked. Do not be rude or a dick... if we have spotted an offence you're possibly getting a ticket for it, but a good attitude might get you out of it. If you have been pulled over without an offence being committed, your attitude might result in the officer finding something wrong with your car and giving you a ticket for it. A perfect example was an uber driving was pulled over for the manner of his driving. It was arguably without due care. He acted the child and refused to take any ownership, and before you know it he was being reported for a variety of offences, and a trained traffic officer gave his vehicle a once over and prohibited it. Some people think its "pandering". It isnt. If you give off the impression that you understand what I am saying and why it needs to be fixed, why do I need to send you to court? If however, I get the impression you think I am wasting your time then you obviously do not understand why the issue needs fixing, and the court can argue it out.
      The attitude test is slowly dying out across England because there are too many people saying cops are pulling cars over without issuing tickets, and this is because words of advice are given. I imagine within the next five years or so, words of advice won't be a thing- so may as well abuse it whilst you can!
      (Obviously sometimes you cannot get yourself out of a ticket. Insurance. Licence. That sort of stuff)

      Late to the channel but I jumped a red light with a copper sat next to me, thought he was gonna pull me cos my phone was resting on the dash for my sat nav. As soon as he lit me up I indicated left, stopped, turned off the engine and wound my window down. He took my details and told me I'd made a mistake and not to worry about it. I could've killed some one. It was the left filter light that went green and I was in a luton van so it was at my eye level. That was in Liverpool a few months back, really nice bloke@@altbergp1930

I do have a question however, maybe you could put it to him, the question is in regards to CBD oil, there is a case in America where a trucker that used CBD oil (supposedly a THC free substance) was stopped and drug tested, failed and has subsequently lost his job and I think he lost his licence too. Would the tests the police carry out over here show up for CBD, which is completely legal? Thanks Mate, and good luck on growing your channel

      I don't understand how he can be an enthusiast without occasionally breaking the laws he works to enforce. Every car enthusiast has booted the throttle on the road at least a few times, nobody spends time and money modifying a road car just to pottle around like a 17 year old with a black-box. I don't condone driving like a twat in built up area's, obviously, but no car enthusiast can tell me with a straight face, that they've never broken the speed limit, or never screeched their tyres "by accident"... Yes, I get they label it all as "accident reduction" and I totally agree that if you cause an accident and hurt people then it's all on you and you should get what's coming to you, but if you didn't hurt anybody during your momentary "anti-social driving" at the local Saturday night car meet and the whole argument is about "oh, but what if this happened..." or "you've upset Dorothy with your loud noises!" then there shouldn't really be a case against you IMO. At the end of the day, I'd put money on the majority of fatal road collisions being down to drunk/tired/distracted drivers, not car enthusiasts booting it (not saying it doesn't happen, but in comparison it's no contest).

      EGR is part of your emissions controls. Current MOT rules say if it isn't fitted or doesn't work then it's a fail. And if your car can't pass an MoT at any time and you've been pulled by a copper (with knowledge and a grudge) they can issue prohibition notice or a VDRS which means getting the EGR put back on to be allowed to continue using the vehicle.

    • @hughraynor8670
      @hughraynor8670 Před 3 lety +5

      If 100% of light can go through, it wouldn't be red. In order for a tint to be red coloured, it MUST be absorbing wavelengths of light OTHER than red (red is the only colour reflected back, hence you see it). It's impossible to have a colour with 100% passthrough, you wouldn't even be able to see glass with 100%.

    • @CED99
      @CED99 Před 3 lety

      I don't know about red chameleon tints - but iridium tints still block light (approx 50%) sufficiently enough to fail a test. I've got a (temporarily) Picanto 0.sh*t and to get it off the line you have to rev the nuts off it, slip the clutch, keep your foot down, get to 4000rpm and change to second (preferably without letting off the go pedal), and keep accelerating. Cops, Picanto drivers are not trying to be anti social, they're just a ****ing awful car. Great video

    Interesting the police officer is doing some aspects of an mot tester routine during a test. However there really isnt a need. You need an mot to drive the vehicle on the road. However some parts of an mot that would pass and advise the officer would pull you over to check or ticket. So this brings the question what good is an mot if one person says it's ok for an officer to say it isnt.

    Question for Owen in a next video: What do the police think about insurance companies that say they are for modified/performance/classic cars? I'd like to know as I think some regular car insurance companies don't allow modifications to a car and if they do, it's a vast increase in price that will put off younger drivers getting into the hobby.

      Yes, engine swaps are legal, an engineers report is usually required for the insurance and the DVLA have to be notified. Emissions... can't remember, best check with DVLA but I think it depends on age of engine or vehicle (the older applies).
