DYSPARADIA
Anachronox is a masterpiece that deserves much much much more recognition. Such a creative setting infused with great humor.
would love a remake of it. was a fantastic rpg, i think it was a western jrpg? although i could be wrong.
Yeah. I was one of the early adopters as I had little idea about the game but simply took a chance because it was an RPG and had cyberpunk aesthetics. Not disappointed save for the cliffhanger.
@@1183newmanit would be seen more as a Western RPG, but the turn-based mechanics also gave it a quasi JRPG feel.
David Cage is a creative individual, it's tragic to think just how much his work would improve if he wasn't so stuck up
Also theres a ton logical errors in Detroit. Still liked that game but it really had meh moments
Holy shit. I've just played Silicon Dreams' demo. The alienation, the dystopic feeling... And the emotional roller-coaster of *that* interrogation! I haven't been this moved by the medium in years.
Excellent choice. Hope to see your own work come to fruition, looks amazing!
Dude, don't worry about the originality thing. First of all, in Anachronox, the part inside the sphere planet, it's only at the beggining, it's not very long, and it's not a dyson sphere, it's a tiny planet inside a bigger sphere. And second, in my experience, originality it's more about the way YOU tell a story, and not so much about the story itself (... how many times have you seen the hero's journey?). And that way is always going to be unique from creative to creative. (BTW, I kind of love the concept of a game set inside a dyson sphere, so I encourage you to keep working on that, sounds really cool!)
Thanks for the videos. They are probably on your list, but a quick mention of Syndicate Wars (and the original) also Satellite Reign, said to be inspired by the Syndicate games.
With your fine taste, you might also like the recently released game: "shadows of doubt".
It's an cyberpunk detective game set in an alternate 1970s. It really has that Blade Runner like setting.
Thanks! I'll add it to the list!
Anachronox's setting s something rarely used outside books. Always loved the idea ever since Star Trek: The Next Generation's episode Relics introduced my childhood self to the concept of Dyson Spheres.
I can totally relate to your struggle with anachronous and original ideas. Also detroit is one of my favorite pieces of media
Rise of the Dragon around 1992-3 was my first Cyberpunk introduction in games, on Amiga , before seeing Bladerunner. I loved the slow pace and interactivity. Never actually completed it mind you, Back then that blew me away amazing really
Anachronox was annoying for ending on a cliff-hanger, but the game was great.
I recommend that you look into Lacuna - definitely looks like one for your list, even if the body-mod side of it is low.
Here are some others for you to consider - I have not played all of these, so I don't know how well they fit:
Tails Noir (Backbone)
Beneath (Beyond) A Steel Sky
Dex
Technobabylon
Whispers Of A Machine
Anno: Mutationem
VirtuaVerse
Probably less-relevant, but still give a similar feeling:
Flashback
Lunark
Thanks for the recommendations! A few of these are on my list and a one of two of them will be in the next episode!
Really interested in this series. Rise of the Dragon, by Dynamix, was the first game I played that gave me those Blade Runner vibes.
Great videos dude! I am just as obsessed as you are, ever since the 1997 Westwood Game! I'm hoping you've heard the news about the forthcoming Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth game?? SOOOOO EXCITED AHHHH!!!
Anachronox is a very cool hidden gem for it's unique characters, plot, and settings. If one of your ideas (which you developed independently) is similar to something in that game, I'd consider that evidence that you have fun ideas. I wouldn't be concerned about trying to be purely original about anything personally. History is full of examples of brand new ground breaking ideas being invented independently by different people, sometimes in different places of the world, at around the same time. It's a strange phenomnia. My favorite example of this is how Alan Turing and Alonzo Church invented two completely different approaches to what would become modern computing at around the same time. Alan Turing created the Turing Machine and Church invented Lambda calculus.
*_Great CP & BR videos. Maybe you'll cover all the CP movies as well one day?_*
Thanks! I've actually thought of doing this for movies/tv shows at some point
Have you heard of Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth? Sounds like it would be up your alley. Just a hunch.
Yeah very much looking forward to seeing what it's all about!
Good list! I didn't now about "Gemini Rue" and "Silicon Dreams" .. definitely worth checking, so.. thanks! My recommendations in the genre are: "Blade Runner (1997], "Flashback" (1992) and "Flashback 2" [1994], "Binary domain" [2012], "Syndicate" [2012], "Remember me" [2013], and "Slavic Punk" [2023]
Thanks! A few of the games you mentioned there maybe in the coming episodes. ;)
Mean Streets. you gotta check it out. i thought you were gonna cover it and hoped you would. right up your alley. its old and ms-dos game. i highly recommend it.
I actually don't think I've heard of that but I'll take a look!
One of the most underrated games ever! This game should be up there with the popular 'Sierra' and 'Lucas Art' point and clicks of the era. The audio and video was also way ahead of it's time (1989)
One game that i quite like is Anno Mutationem. It’s an indie and looks like a PS1 game with metroidvania influences and obvious Blade Runner and Ghost In The Shell influences. It’s quite good but definitely not perfect
I may suggest another videogame for this series. Its called Peripeteia, there is a quite large demo you can play to see the vibe, business as usual, rain, grime, corruption and politics.
Thanks! I'll give it a look, I'm not sure if I've seen it before
I'm sure these are somewhere on a list at some point, two games I think of are Neuromancer 1988 and of course Beneath the Steel Sky. Other odd ball games that remind me of Bladerunner are dreamweb and bloodnet.
One of those is definitely on my list! But I'll look up the rest, thanks!
@@Dysparadia If nothing else I hope you find some fun times :D though bloodnet's ui was horrible when it came out.
Citizen Sleeper absolutely needs to be on here
What is the music starts at 11:29 ?
Also what is your thought on the game 'Remember me'? Personally one of my most favorites in terms of sci fi aesthetics and art design. The story and gameplay is not that great though. I just play the game imagining how cool the city of Neo Paris would have been to roam around if it was an open world.
The original System Shock came out in 1994 if I recall correctly, not really in 1997
D'oh, I think you're right!
Not sure if you've covered it yet, but The Ascent has some of the best Blade Runner vibes I've seen in a game's world
I was going to mention The Ascent. It had some problems as a game and it was loaded with bugs, but the worldbuilding was amazing. Props to the audio design, too. Weapons have a heavy sounding punch and the music might as well have been written by Vangelis.
Yussssss
Low fi looks like blade runner in vr!! Look at itt
I've actually seen some of it! But I think it's still not officially out yet so I was thinking if I should include it or not.
I love your blade runner videos, but I will love to see a more detailed showcase of the videogame you are developing
Silicon dreams remind me the story titled "robot dreams" by Isaac Asimov
Not to burst your bubble but to just be informative, but the OG Prey also has the stuck in a Sphere world premise as well.
I think the bubble is gone by this point haha
Do Do Do a dev log of you game development!
I actually have one I do on and off on my other channel that can be found on my profile. I'm not very good at sticking to 1 project, though haha.
More please :)
More coming soon!
@@Dysparadia Yay :)
cant believe shadowrun hasnt made the cut yet.
Can you do this kind of video but for other games as well!
I still suggest Techwar. The book, NOT the game. Civvie 11 has a video if you want to know why. I will also suggest the games Perfect Dark and E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy for your lists.
Megarace 1 & 2
Dunno if it counts but....Fallout 4 has the Synths.. Androids that replace humans.. so..yeah..replicants.. hell, New Vegas has the PKD Gun. i know the plot is INSPIRED by Blade Runner but doenst really hit the right spot.
Yeah I have been thinking about the Fallout universe too, but I couldn't decide if it fit or not.
@@Dysparadia also my technicality... MegaMan X. Robot hunting robots that gone rogue, while not directly you can see a little bit of Blade Runner DNA
