    i think you perfectly pinned it down, the dehumanizing theme of the cyberpunk genre and the theme of getting away from it. Where cyberpunk differs is that you have the option to leave. in blade runner, the wastes stretch for thousands of kilometres which make blade runner feel even more pressing. the questions asked and themes showed are all so well made. I think you should dissect the themes that cyberpunk is portraying, such as redemtion (johnny), solitude (V), Family (aldecaldos), might/dreams (jackie) etc and make them in a similar way of a philosphical video essay Also i would love to have a list of the music used

    Bravo! What perfect timing with this video essay as I'm considering jumping back in. Walking, biking, driving through Night City in my first playground spoke to parts of me that longs for my past life in NYC now that I no longer live there. Thank you for this video which captures so many shared experiences, however isolated they may have been.

    You should really consider watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners if you haven't already. Even if you dont like anime, it's still a really good show. It revived the game and it really adds a lot to the Cyberpunk 2077 Universe.

      @donnytheflow Před 2 dny

      Sure does! Few shows hit me in the place that edge runners has. Animated at that. Not quite emotional about it but definitely amazed, horrified, disgusted, and out right in awe of what humanity can become

      @@FuriousFapper326 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a must watch if you're a fan of Cyberpunk 2077. I watched it when i was also skeptical about anime and i really enjoyed it. It was made to appeal more to the western countries. You shouldn't underestimate animation, you can tell stories in many different ways and animation is one of them. The story, the animation, the references to the game, its all on point. Its also not long, 10 episodes, 20-25 min per episode and you can always stop watching if you dont like it. Just give it a try, trust me.

  • @waithereivegonetogethelp3240

    For the people saying that it was more inspired by 'the road', how so? In that film it was a father and his son, no hope, no future, no matter what the world and everyone on it is dying, just instinctively trying to stay alive for no particular reason because it's all hopeless. A very well made film but one of the bleakest I've seen... The only real similarities are a man who looks a bit like Joel and a kid in a post apocalyptic world. 'Children of men', however, has *many obvious similarities (as pointed out in this video) and was mentioned by the creator of the last of us as inspiration.. I don't doubt he took inspiration from both, but the majority was definitely taken from 'children of men'.

  • @verybutton
    @verybutton Před 12 dny

    Logan (2017) is also an excellent version of Children of Men, btw.

  • @The_Bad_Lebowski
    @The_Bad_Lebowski Před 12 dny

    To be honest, it feels more like some personal essay rather than a detailed analysis. Surely, both the movie and the game have similarities, but direct comparison seems like overkill. Especially the last part, the "Final" -- putting TLoU: Part II, a direct sequel, which in this case has absolutely nothing to do with Children of Men. Seems like cheating and manipulation.

  • @istrumguitars
    @istrumguitars Před 13 dny

    Children of Men was and still is awesome I actually saw it in theaters back then. I can hardly believe a film that good was a commercial failure. If it was released today, it’d be a guaranteed success.

  • @haruruben
    @haruruben Před 13 dny

    “Children of Men” is a direct ripoff of 1983’s “After the Fall of New York” even down to there’s one part where the bad guy’s conference room has the exact same Picasso painting prominent in the room. Both movies have an anti-hero escorting the last known fertile woman on earth to a ship in a desperate attempt to repopulate the world. Children of Men is based on a book but the book also came out 10 years after “After the Fall of New York”. Point is: there are no original ideas. It’s so funny how people are so worried about AI when organic intelligence has been turning out derivative slop for hundreds of years

    I'd always said that The Last of Us (which began development in 2009) was a mish-mash of Children of Men (2006) and The Happening (2008). To be fair, around that time there was a smattering of these kinds of movies - The Road, The Grey, I Am Legend, The Book of Eli...

    This is actually why I don't like the HBO show very much. When my mom watched it I told her the biggest inspirations for the game aside from The Road were supposed to be No Country for Old Men, Unforgiven, and Children of Men, I could sense all of those while I was playing, then I asked her if she could see any of those influences in the final TV product she said she couldn't. Because of course she couldn't I appreciate on some level that they chose to emphasize the human drama over "Hollywood thrill-ride action" scenes. Except in their struggle to avoid that they exposed their assumption that those are the only types of action scenes you can make, despite Druckmann's initial cinematic influences; turning survival into pulp, and drama into melodrama. I think maybe they were also pathologically afraid of being compared to the Walking Dead, which while despite having some truly terrible writing at times - especially in its early days, did the same type of melodrama decently enough, while being pretty solid throughout on action/suspense stuff. Maybe if the HBO show had just been longer... I regard the near absence of action scenes to be a missed opportunity. I can't figure out why so many seem to regard it as the ultimate post apocalyptic survival narrative. It's just the game but with only the cinematics and some others added to round out supporting characters, whose only support is thematic. A story of survival with virtually no survival scenes. I find it depressing comparing Children of Men to The Last of Us on HBO, frankly.
