  • Peter, a young business owner, reviews some of the biggest age and maturity related barriers faced by young people in the workplace, and how these can be overcome through actionable feedback-seeking, mentorship, and general presentation modifications. For those in client-focused professional roles, those thinking of starting a client-centric business, or those wondering how to best relate with colleagues of different age or experience gap: this talk could be for you. Peter is a small business owner and, more importantly, a young person. Peter owns Matthews Copywriting, a WA digital marketing firm catering to mature corporate and small to mid-tier government clients. Matthews Copywriting celebrated its fourth birthday in October 2021, and in this time has worked closely with corporate and government clients including Hockey WA, BGC, Century 21 Australia and the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Communities on subjects of content strategy and digital marketing with a written focus. Outside work, Peter is a committed Rotarian, student and freestyle wrestler. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. What we need to be educated on is how your boss should speak to you. We need more employee empowerment especially in the face of horrible bosses who think that they can bully, belittle and berate their way to the top and take all of the credit.

Lol! Ok, I'll be 60 soon, I can dance through all of office from outlook folders that mail files itself based on sender and which email it came through to creating access databank, charts & graphs in PowerPoint of course word and interlocking spreadsheets that feed into another spreadsheet in excel. I still have the newest of all offices that I subscribe to on my note 9 phone, my tablet, (surface Pro) and laptop. Lol I started with DOS, first windows I saw was 3.1. So don't count out every older person using technology. Many of us got in on it when computers were the size of a room!

It's going to be earth-shatteringly unexpected, humbling, and painful. By the same token, it will be a much needed lesson..
