    Can't help but think of how many hard working people lost their life savings on his scam.... Yet he smiles proudly in all interviews, and not once did I hear him apologize. And he is still super rich, never paying a dime of the penalties meant to repay those he duped. Good movie..... Bad person.

    Or, we celebrate someone who went down a very dark path, and was able to turn his life around and uses his mistakes and his current success to inspire people that no matter how bad things get, you can always fight back and come out ahead.

  • @etoriaking

    How can he claim the message of the film was about redemption and changing your life? The movie ends with him going into jail saying "When I went to prison, I was really really scared. For a moment I forgot that I was really rich, in a place where everything can be bought"

    • @Reaver1223
      @Reaver1223 Před 10 lety

      you clearly didn't know what that line meant. it didn't mean he was literally rich, it meant he had a wealth of knowledge on how to be successful in the right way. and him saying it was for sale meant he could teach others how to succeed as well as he did. his story is mainly a cautionary one though. the caution is telling people to do whatever they do ethically, or else they'll take a big fall like Jordan does at the end.

    • @etoriaking
      @etoriaking Před 10 lety

      ***** Yeah, that stuff about a wealth of knowledge is true, but you still can't really describe it as a cautionary tale when his 'big fall', amounted to about 2 years in a cushy prison and a subsequent successful career writing and talking about all that bad stuff he did. 100% worth it, I'd say

    • @Reaver1223
      @Reaver1223 Před 10 lety

      Kieran Etoria-King again, you miss the point. he was going to get 30+ years if he didn't give information about his closest friends who were also criminals, fyi, and he lost all his money and his family. even if he served little jail time, that's still a huge consequence in itself. and the stuff with the career and writing he does now came down to pure luck. it wasn't a plan he had to become rich again, it was what he did to try and make sense of his life. his plan was not to do horrible things for 5+ years and then become inadvertently rich off of those things. that's such a longshot and a terrible plan that no one would want to take the same route he took on the one in a million chance they bounce back with a public speaking career and a movie made about them. you are confusing cause and effect here big time.

    • @etoriaking
      @etoriaking Před 8 lety

      ***** As far as I'm concerned, his only plan ever was to get rich however possible. My point is, at least according to the film's portrayal, he didn't learn, grow or change in any way that you could call redemption. The film's ending implies that he still thinks everything he did was basically fine and that he was some kind of rogue hero.
      I think the film is great for its portrayal of a man with that mindset, but it's not about redemption at all lol.
      As for cautionary tale, I guess you could call it that, but a moral one, not a practical one. The scene where he punches his wife and puts his daughter in the car while coked up is definitely a brutal back-to-earth moment which makes you go, 'wait a minute, this guy is a dick, I don't want to be like him at all.'

    • @Reaver1223
      @Reaver1223 Před 8 lety

      Kieran EK then your core problem is you're assuming his internal motives for what his current career/morals are. you personally may not believe he's redeemed himself, but that is purely a matter of opinion. from all the interviews i've seen and from actually watching one of his seminars, i truly believe he's trying to help people succeed as highly as he did in terms of persuasion, but he has learned from his mistakes and puts the emphasis on ethical persuasion. the ending of the film did not imply that at all. again, you are taking the fact that he thought he was still rich way too literally. the ending of the film shows him in the career he's in now, which is a perfectly legal and ethical career. it is both a cautionary tale and a tale of redemption. obviously the movie portrays a Jordan Belfort who is a terrible person. the point is that he isn't that person anymore.

    Sure this guy is no real hero, but let's all remember that he could easily just be an ordinary bum and not pay back what he owes to his victims. He is doing what he can to pay back his victims. I believe to this date he has paid back 10 million dollars. Another 100 million to go. Better than declaring himself a deadbeat and not bringing in a change to himself.

It was all the drugs that made me soo crazy; I would never, never had done any of that stuff had the drugs not been part of the picture...and... and I really thought that stuff...you know ...was ...you know ...like harmless... even though I was spending like...I dunno...10k a night on it. The NASD began pursuing disciplinary actions against his company, Stratton Oakmont, in 1987, culminating in its permanent shutdown in 1995.As of January 2014, Belfort had paid only $11 million of his $110 million restitution debt. Prosecutors said that he had fled to Australia to avoid taxes and conceal his assets from his victims. Kinda hard to dispute reality.
