Pretty much the same language, with some "r-word"-ed pronounciations and some different words, yet Catalans are 403s-mad that Franco "reduced" their "language" to a dialect... a thick dialect, but nonetheless. Viva Franco, muerte a rojos y separatistas! España una, grande y libre!

the sound of LL is a ----> LY sound. Originally Spanish distinguished between LL and the Y sound, but a lot of countries just teach LL as being a Y which is the phenomenon called "yeismo."
Catalan still retains the LY sound but any non purist will also pronounce it like a Y, the influence from Spanish.
Some parts of Spanish speaking Spain still distinguish between LL and Y.
Here in Philippines too,we pronounce LL as LY

The catalan phrase for "please", "si us plau", comes from the formal way of saying it in old times "si vos plau", pretty similar with the old spanish "si vos place" (that has faded from regular use).
PD: There's also a few other forms for showing gratitude, "(moltes) gràcies", "mercès", "mèrci" and "Deu t'ho pagui/e" (~lit. May God reward you for this); you can also say "thank God" as "gràcies a Déu".
This girl is speaking with the Barcelonan accent, if you heard any of the Western varieties it'd be slight easier as the pronunciation shares the vowels with Spanish

Also, I'm sure Western and Northern accents don't have the [ə] vowel

@@alfonsmartinez9663 Everyone is bilingual but a lot of street signs are only in Catalan and rarely in bilingual signage (except in metro stations). And Catalan is considered at higher standing than Spanish

Al estar vivint a un poble en València he aprés algo de la llengua. Es curiòs veure-ho dins de aixa perspectiva. Perds un poc la visió com es pel natius del castellá cuan no han estat en contacte amb el catalá, valenciá o ho que siga.

Me when I realize they say at 10:12 "pan tumaca" (phonetically ok), when it is actually spelled "pa amb tomàquet/tomata" in Catalan: :(
En español también puedes decir "tú eres un nene o nena" para referirse a niño o niña, y se usa mucho en Sudamérica.
En España tb se dice de forma más informar. Es un curioso no me había dado cuenta y eso que soy catalana.

Canario or canaria? Remember female gender changes word termination! And... how do canarios look like? They could *sound* different, but obviously not *look* different. Unless you call "canario" to any spaniard people (and we got LOTS of regional differences between us which you probably are unaware of). Anyway, you're wrong and completely lost. Canarios sound like cubans, dominicans and guess what: portoriqueños !!! Catalan (which comes from french Occitan) is in the extreme opposite from Latin diversion.

-Cercar
-Guaitar
-Pixar
-Buidar
-Qualque
Creo que todo el mundo sabe que el catalán es una lengua diferente. Los que la tildan de dialecto solo son ignorantes que quieren malmeter por la situación política. Y te lo dice alguien a quien no le agrada que los catalanes se sientan superiores o con derechos a tener privilegios solo por hablar una lengua diferente, pero a mí nunca se me ocurriría llamar dialecto al catalán. El andaluz es un dialecto del castellano, no solo un acento, ya que su prosodia varía ostensiblemente... pero el catalán ¿dialecto de qué otra lengua? Ignoro cómo sería el aragonés del siglo XII, para decir si evolucionaron independientemente o si ni siquiera estén emparentados. En todo caso vendría del Occitano antiguo.
