Gondor Vs Mordor ~ Middle Earth SBG Battle Report!

- In this game we have the forces of the Black Gate opens going up against a thematic Gondor and Rivendell list. The theme is Aragorn and his army hunting down the remnants of Mordor after the fall of Sauron!

Honestly makes more sense for Arwen to be able to pair up with King Aragorn than Strider anyways.
Yeah, it's one of those quirks of the game being mostly based on the movies. The main movie interaction is when he is Strider.

It was a rough swing! It's a great demonstration of how sometimes killing all the enemy to quickly can cost you a game
Noobs dice rolling three 2's on four dice when yoy need 4 highs, now thats a classic.

this is a nice format balance between rolling and just showing the results. A lot of the excitement comes from seeing the dice being rolled, but i can see ALL rolls being shown feeling drawn out, thins is a nice balance showing some of the bigger rolls, but not all of them.

Nice Bat Rep! Right in the beginning I thought that I would have taken more orcs instead of the Troll. Maybe with these more troops you wouldn't have been broken 🙂

One question: In 16:45, doesnt Aragorn have the horse lord rule?
And in 19:45, if I saw it right, you may not divide those fights as you did. Instead of two 2vs1 it should be three 1vs1 🙂
16:45 yes Aragorn has horselord. That's the first thing I thought when I heard he'd killed the horse.

He is on a base from Generation Shift. You can find him on Facebook he makes some really nice resin cast bases that are perfect for Middle Earth

Newish to the game (haven’t played in a few years), how legal is it to give weapons to models that won’t normally have them? Like giving axes to goblin Moria models just to spice up their variety?
It is absolutely legal and described in the rule book how to do it. Short: Warriors can switch for one extra point their weapon.

@@totallyoriginal9741 You can, but just think about that it will make the goblin warrior 20%-25% more expensive. For one point more you can get a goblin prowler with higher fight value, two-handed axe, throwing dagger and special rule
Yeah that's true, I wasn't planning on doing anything like that yet since I've only just started collecting Moria and have no real idea how to play them, but it's good to know for future reference
Can I ask why aragorn had 4 attacks when charging the troll?
The troll is still infantry. So Cav get the +1 attack, but don’t get the knock down.

This is correct. When a cavalry model charges an infantry model they receive +1 attack. If the infantry model is less than strength 6 it will also be knocked over which then doubles your strikes
guys in 4:50 you supported your troll with spear. thats illegal , it has to be the same size or smaller to support with spears
The spear is not supporting. It is in base to base with Aragorn.

Could you have taken two troll chieftains instead of one chieftain and regular troll? I think your numbers could have still been good with all mordor orcs.
This was definitely an option but I wanted to keep my numbers up. A better choice may have been to drop the captain and upgrade the troll to a chieftain so that I kept the same numbers
@@ConquestCreations yeah, that’s sort of what I meant. The 40 points from the captain transfer to the troll to make him a chieftain. You do lose March though.
@@giovdb A lot of people really rate having march in thier army but I do not care about it at all. It is so rare that I come up to a use case of it that I don't build with it in mind

Always run 2 trolls with BGO LL, especially at lower points (although I prefer just double troll chiefs myself, give you that might for heroic combats to help get the point cost back better). 9 times out of 10, your opponent is gonna struggle to counter you unless they have an Aragorn or an Elendil or some such.

Ah man hate to see a leader running away from another leader like that. So lame from Aragorn
My only issue with this game is it just doesnt seem balanced, dwarves and elves are unstoppable. The way the number advantage is in the game doesnt really matter. If someone is surrounded by a load of orcs i think that characters armour should be weaker due to them getting attacked from all sides.
Thanks for the comment. I have played heaps of games over my life and one of the reasons that Middle Earth is my favourite is that it is the most balanced. I would definitely recommend having another look at the game because the things that you have issues with are all incorrect! I mean this in a very good way because the game is a heap of fun
Dwarves are generally difficult to win with and don't see the podium at tournaments very often so they are absolutely not unstoppable. They are generally low model count and low movement speed which makes it difficult to out maneuver the enemy and difficult to take objectives.
Elves see the podium more often but are absolutely not statistically over represented. They have high fight value but generally low model count and very low hitting power.
I would definitely recommend getting a game playing either with or against them to see how they preform.
Numbers advantage is a huge deal in Middle Earth with high model count armies typically significantly over performing low model count armies.
One of the core mechanics of the game is "Traps" if you surround and enemy and win the fight you get to double your strikes to wound. This doubles your damage output.
Hopefully this motivates you to have another look at the game!
