    I didn't see any reference to HDCP in the review and your demo only navigated through some menus without actually showing the device recording content per se. The Amazon AU site includes the following, which judging by some of the comments and queries below, is quite a pertinent point to some if not many people... [The device does not support any content protected by HDCP. When connected to an HDCP (Content Protection) source, it will output an error message or nothing. This does not indicate a defect.]

    Looks interesting... tempted to follow your link and get one, but seeing Dan Kelley's question below makes me wonder on that one. I also wondered if it has any way to rename a completed video without taking it to a different device to do so. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the "limited time discount link" puts the device right in a shopping cart with NO explanation or way to find out which model, but it appears to only be the old 1080p model not the 4K model? No discount for the 4K UHD model?

It instead throws up a message saying "cannot take screenshot due to security policy". I didn't try my screen recording app but I think it works. It would be nice to just capture the streaming video file that is being played instead of simply playing it, dump the data to an .mp4 file. I had programs that did that for streaming videos online.

    Nice, but in my case, the whole point of recording is to be able to setup times to record my fav shows (when I’m not watching live) to view later. I think that’s the part skipped in this vid.
    I don’t see the point of recording it while you’re watching it to view later after you’ve already watched it.
    One would have to have a way to switch to and send a separate stream to it at the right time, and this doesn’t say whether it can control both items.
    Ideas?

      He covered a spot in this where, the unit can be "scheduled". So, that functionality is available....just not sure how intuitive it truly is. In my case, DVR is most useful to me using how you just described (scheduling), and to pause/rewinding something to watch again in real time. The latter function I didn't see demonstrated, which would be a big problem for me, depending on what this unit cost.

    This would've been nice capture card to have, but its high price, and the fact they still split up your files at specific sizes and times, even if you use NTFS drives, makes it not worth it at this time. I ultimately went with the AverMedia ER330 instead. While it does require an HDCP stripper to remove copy protection (not that I have plan on hooking HDR equipment to it, which I do have), it's still cheaper than the ClonerAlliance UHD Pro.
    BTW, neither device will passthrough HDR. You'll have to disable HDR on whatever device you're using, or use an HDMI matrix splitter/downscaler (which may or may not have HDR to SDR tonemapping to avoid washed out conversions).

      Hi Trevor, I'm looking to back up content from my Dish satellite service DVR before I discontinue my subscription, as the prices have become outrageous. My research led me to either the ClonerAllienace Box Pro (1080p) or AVerMedia ER330 or ER330G (is there a difference?). I have hundreds of hours to offload, some are sports games that are 3-4 hours long and I don't want them split into a bunch of shorter movie files. You seem to be very knowledgeable, do you have a recommendation of what device I should buy for my purposes? And what does a HDCP stripper do, would having an HDMI splitter (which I have) allow me to offload from a subscription service DVR? Thanks for any advice!

    • @IraQNid
      @IraQNid Před 11 měsíci +2

      Most TVs do not have a video output. What is the video source you're using? What you could do is use a DTV converter box as the go between unit. Use its output to connect between the soundbar, the recorder, and then the TV. If you have a pre-amp/amplifier that handles HDMI as well as other A/V sources then this is another way to accomplish your goal.

      If you're trying to rip CDs you can do that in software at speeds much faster than real time. Use audio grabber software for Windows to record music off CDs straight to your hard drive or SSD. It usually auto detects the best settings to get the best results. You control what information is included with the recordings. Like how do you want each file to appear? Do you want to include the track number, artist's name, album name, track name, and then in what order do you want that? Do you want the recorded tracks to be in a sub-folder sorted according to the album it originates from or not? The software works with the CDDB CD Database where it searches for matches to your CD. If there are multiple matches you can choose which one to use. If there isn't a match you can enter the details for each track manually and then send it to the CDDB for other people to use when they're trying to rip a CD. You can also export that data you either keyed in or received from the CDDB on your HDD or SDD. This is useful for keeping track of the CDs you've already ripped. So if you have a big collection of CDs this will serve to remind you that you already made a recording and can pre-populate the data fields in case you don't have an Internet connection. You onlt need the Internet connection to use the CDDB.
      If your music is on records you can use free software like Audacity to record with. This software is useful for live recordings as well. It can record mono and stereo audio sources from USB and 3.5 mm audio cables. You just need to tell it where the source is coming from. Then you can use your computer to make recordings of any length desired until you run out of space on your hard drive, SSD, USB Flash Drive, memory card if that what you want to or need to do.
      Both programs can record to .WAV and .MP3 formats at highest bitrates of 320 Kbps (or less depending on your settings).

      If you want to record streaming music look at the Tascam DP-008EX or similar. It records perfectly but there is a learning curve to use it. Tutorials are on CZcams but not for simply capturing streaming audio. I use mine pretty much every day. Since I only use it this way, I haven't even bothered to learn anything else it can do. And it seems that these devices retain a high resale value down the line.

    The audience that might be interested in this device would be cord cutters, but for them to be interested, there would have to be an easy way to feed it from an NTSC 3.0 DRM tuner. Under NTSC 3.0, the local stations can use DRM and that means you can't record it to a local DVR. This device would allow you to take it out of the decoded signal going to the TV, but now you would have to have the TV on. Also, none of the current Tuners have any kind of programming guide. They are essentially just tuners. If the device had both a tuner and a video Card, then you could now simply program it for the station and time and send it from the video card to a box like this. Someone like Tivo TV will probably sell such a device in the future though because otherwise, Tivo is out of business.

    • @IraQNid
      @IraQNid Před 11 měsíci +1

      Cord cutters are people who don't want to pay to watch cable or satellite TV shows but still have their high speed Internet. If they are using a "Smart" TV that has a LAN port on it then they can log into the "Channels" used on the "Smart" TV directly from their computers to watch the same content. With that they can then either use recording software on their computers or attach something like this to the HDMI outputs to capture live video feeds. From a software perspective what you'd be looking for a time shifting like what VCRs let us do years ago.
      Game capture cards / recorders may have this feature intended for Twitch perhaps or something game related. Just as easy to apply that to recording other live or scheduled events.

      This is going to get defeated in court. There is no logical or legal reason to DRM protect an OTA signal when cable TV uses DVR recorders built into their cable boxes AND you can buy 3rd party DVR recorders online. This move will be shown to be nothing more than an attempt to force poor people off ATO TV and onto Cable TV.

    • @shenmisheshou7002
      @shenmisheshou7002 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@MrCougar214 No, it isn't going to be defeated, and DRM Is already being used in these markets already, and this list is about 6 months old. There are many more using it already, and some large station owners say that they will use it on all of their stations but here is an old list, so it is being used. If you are not using TV or Tuner that can receive the new ATSC 3.0 signal, then you would not know it, but if you were using TV that can receive it (most TVs built in the last 4 or 5 years), the signal will be encrypted. If you use an ATSC 3.0 Tuner with DRM and the TV had DRM, the TV can decode it, but your DVR would need a tuner that was for the new signal and your DVER would not be able to decode the image. You could only watch it live. So, this is already happening and nothing is really going to stop it.

    I almost bought it! It seemed to be exactly what I am looking for. Thank goodness they put a note in the buying process saying that some customers try to record from an app in a smart TV, but that won't work because the TV is not getting an HDMI Input for that. So to record, the TV would have to have an HDMI Output which they don't (always or generally?). Is there a way around this? How to record HDMI that is being played from a smart TV? BTW, great video, and I hit the Like button!

    • @IraQNid
      @IraQNid Před 11 měsíci +4

      Smart TVs work off a LAN port feed as well as external inputs. What is the source of your entertainment? Is it coming straight off the LAN port? If that is the case log into each "channel" that you'd have watched on the TV but instead do it on your computer. Then if your PC has HDMI output you can make the recordings in real time from that. Just attach the male-to-male HDMI cables between the output of your PC to the input of the recorder.
      If you're using a Windows PC you could save a bunch of money by using the X-Box video recording software to live capture just about anything you like, any website, any game that you're playing. That software also lets you record a mic input. Sometimes on Steam though the software recorder will not record the audio for the game. I'm not sure why that is. So this external recorder should solve that issue. One other thing the software recorder can do is capture whatever audio you have playing on your Windows PC, the game's audio, and your microphone (if that is enabled) at the same time without any sync issues.
      To activate the record feature directly for X-Box recording on your Windows PC use this key combo: Press and hold the ALT and Windows logo keys while pressing the "R" key. Once you've tapped the "R" key you can let go of the other keys. Wait a little bit because the response can be slow sometimes or may not register the first time. So you may have to try it again. Depending on the demands the game or other content you're trying to record your Windows PC may be super responsive or kinda sluggish. This can also determine whether or not you can record in full screen mode, the video resolution, etc. Something to test out based on your needs and the capabilities of your Windows PC. When the record overlay appears it won't be something you can move around while a recording is being made.
      Using ALT + Windows Logo key + "G" key combo brings up the general settings menus which lets you set how the record software will work for you. There should be a sub menu that asks to treat your source as a game feed for recording. By ticking that box you're basically fooling it into making recordings of that feed in the future as though it were a game feed even if it isn't. Like I can record any web browser feed because I once told the software that it is a game feed. What you currently cannot do is record the desktop of your Windows PC for screen capture. Useful for making tutorials. Now getting back to the settings menus you can drag those around to place them where you like. That includes where the record indicator overlay will appear. Choose some portion of the screen where it won't interfere / hide any onscreen clickable spots that your feed uses. So if you place it at the top left corner of your screen you won't be able to close that tab or browser or video source because the record overlay will be blocking it.
      One other thing to be aware of is when you exit the screen you're recording or change resolution the recording automatically stops. If you're changing between tabs in your browser it is prone to stopping each time you do that. The video capture files will be in .MP4 format, typically will appear in a new or existing folder called "captures", which may appear in the VIDEOS folder on your C drive.
