    Nice but I would caution people to be careful recording music. I haven't heard as much about Amazon and the other music services. However, Spotify is cracking down hard. If you use the direct option, Spotify has implemented technology to see that you are recording and will suspend your account. Using the other soundcard option is probably the safest option if you plan to record anything from them.

    • @PeterC408
      @PeterC408  Před 2 lety

      From what I understand, the activity that they can "see" is an accelerated rip. Why would someone want to listen to a song at 3x speed? If you listen to the song at normal speed, it is almost impossible to tell if you are listening or recording. Sound card or software is going to look exactly the same to their system... just don't accelerate the rip, it always messes with the timings anyway. Enjoy the music.

    • @linuxzero7283
      @linuxzero7283 Před 2 lety

      @@PeterC408 You are correct but the high-speed feature is not the only way Spotify can detect the activity. You also need to be careful with the drag & drop option. This is straight from Audials: "The "Drag music from XYZ to Audials" mode controls the streaming software remotely in order to play the desired music. This creates a certain "pattern" (all songs are played individually), which could be detected." Either way, I think it's a great program and have been using the program since it was Audials Tunebite.

    I'm definitely giving this video a like. Like you Peter, I'm a media collector. Whether it be, movies, or TV series, documentaries,sport, music videos, pretty much anything. I reckon I've got 1800 movies and about 800 TV series, including multiple seasons, or all seasons of many of them, and I'm still adding to it. I run Plex with 2 x 1 TB NVME drives, 1 x 8TB SATA internal drive, and a Synology 2 bay NAS server, currently populated with one 10 TB NAS drive.
    Unfortunately, here in Australia, we are limited to which streaming services available to us because even using a VPN we can't sign up for services like HULU, or HBO Max because sign up requires a zip code that matches your credit card. I get quite a bit of content via torrents and the Usenet, so I make do. Still, it would be nice to be able to use those services. That for the tip on Audials, I've just installed it so I'll give it a go.

    There are shows that disappear. One that I liked was called Not Exactly News. It was funny and I had all of the episodes except #6. At one point, MTV hosted the shows to be played directly from their website for free. I captured it using some software, but buffering made it skip a lot. A few months later, I went back to try re-capturing and maybe it wouldn't buffer. At this point, MTV deleted all the episodes. So, I took my old capture and edited out the buffer problems. I don't have a perfect copy, but I may have the only one around - I haven't found that episode anywhere on the internet. If you like something, save it! Between censorship, digital rights and websites reclaiming hard drive space, it may just disappear forever.

    Peter, thanks for getting back to me. If you could provide just a little more detail I would appreciate it. I have just started using a NAS at my house so I am on a steep learning curve. Several quick questions: 1. Do you save from Audials directly to the NAS or do you send the file to the computer first? 2. Can you load and run Audials from the Synology NAS somewhat like you run PLEX from the NAS? It appears from what I have read, that cannot be done. 3. Did you set up separate directories on the NAS in the PLEX group of directories for Audials copies of media; i.e. do you save to the Movies director or did you set us a separate directory something like Audials Movies or Audials Music.

    • @PeterC408
      @PeterC408  Před 2 lety +2

      1. Save to the Computer First.
      2. Plex has a program for the NAS drive - Audials does not. It makes more sense on a big PC with plenty of resources. The Synology server, while cool, only has so much power and is no match for my i7-7770 processor with 32GB of DRAM.
      3. Plex recommends storing your files in a certain directory structure. I, having a blank drive, adopted it as my own.

    Peter, My main goal is to be able record my tv shows and watch them on the road in may RV. Most of the time I have a good enough wifi with my T-Mobile cellular Gateway in my RV. I'm using a black box Tablo DVR at home but the new white round Tablo does not support retrieving recorded shows remotely, I don't know hwy they discontinue that function on the new lease Tablo. To make all this work II have to make sure my Firestick using the Tablo remote app gets it's hand shake on my home network then I can install the Firestick back into my RV and it will allow me to retrieve my recorded shows from the home Tablo box. Occasionally the Tablo app on my RV Firestick would get corrupted or deleted and I losose the Table network hand shake between home and RV and there's no way to establish the hand shake without not being home with both devices the same network. So I guess with these problems I'm having is I'm looking for another way to recorded my TV shows from home and then access the recordings on the road in my RV. I hope this all makes sense. I can't watch all my shows live on the road since I may not have access to the local channels in a remote area. Maybe there's a streaming app like Sling or something that allows you to record all yours shows and then pull them down from the cloud DVR to watch on the road. Any suggestions?

    It's nice to have a NAS, but you should always back up your NAS as well and not rely on the RAID. Sometimes rebuilds (after a drive replacement) will fail. I have a 4 drive (8TB in total) that automatically backs up nightly to an 8TB USB drive.

      No, but this can be done with another solution. Think of this as a screen recorder but with some outrageous features: it will pull down meta data, remove commercials, and more but if you want to schedule a recording, you can use this amzn.to/3RB4DBH, I did a review of this product here czcams.com/video/r6LHtX9RgiA/video.html STILL, this is not a IPTV tuner, so you would need leave this connected and the screen playing. You would have to have it connected for 3 days, but it would grab the game when it comes on. It can be used to record several programs by time and date but again, it does not tune. Get an inexpensive firestick or equivalent and leave it running all the time.

    This really interests me. But, with the backup / copies of the material (such as Prime video or Netflix video), does the copy have a 1-to-1 look to the original. Meaning, is it a good copy?
    I tried something like this before, and the color was off slightly. I think it was PlayOn. It did an okay job, but it didn't seem to have the same quality as the original. So, any thoughts?
    Also, be nice if someone kept doing research on topics like this. This is really needed to be solved. Because, my reason is to record things (say things that have commercials -- like Hulu), then skip over them as I watch it later. That's my goal. And, Prime Video is now also starting to want to do commercials, and I'm not sure I want to pay $3 more a month to not have that. Because I don't watch it that much. Same with Paramount. All of them just keep adding more costs.

No 'flashy' interface like the Plex you show, but I can still view/play the drives content on the TV, and the only cost was 2 drive enclosures as I already had the discs from some old computers, and an external BD-DVD-CD reader and some misc. applications to convert the different discs - cost point: less that 200 for the additional hardware/software to interface with the TV and make the backups.

      @@PeterC408 I'll give you an example from last night. We are tennis fans and there were two matches at the Australian Open that I wanted to record but they started at 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. I went to bed at midnight, and using the OBS recorder I had just installed on my new laptop I had the channel streaming on my PC from 12:00 midnight until 8:00 AM.....8 hours!!! If I had the capability to schedule these recordings I would have two shorter recordings using less resources and more convenient to watch. When I had cable, I loved the fact that I didn't have to watch live T.V. any more (but hated paying $170/month) and now that I have ditched cable and gone to streaming I have even better DVR capability with my main T.V. resource youtubeTV which includes unlimited DVR. I just record what I want to watch and don't have to put up with all the disgusting commercials that insult our intelligence. It improves the experience 1000000%. Your explanation mistakenly assumes that all streaming is spur of the moment, when it is not. Some streaming is actually scheduled making the DVR/VCR capability a great feature. There is another recorder that I just found named Ice Cream that does allow you to schedule recordings, and that is the one I will probably end up using. Your set up is excellent, you are a couple of levels in knowledge and sophistication above me, So have some mercy on the streaming proletariat because to us VCR capability equates to the world we came from.......f'ing cable.

      This is my favorite Router czcams.com/video/H4gvsUXcw38/video.html It does have power settings that include "through walls" but the best part is to be able to duplicate access point to 2 or 3 nodes to cover the whole house. It also has a great feature that allows my to serve my Plex Server even using TMobile Home Internet, previously thought impossible! czcams.com/video/1KHCjxmIBac/video.html

      @theytube3879 I tried saving money by going with a different router. I've tried dozens of them literally. Many were sent to me for free. And they were very high end but I ended up buying this one myself because I really needed to solve it to be a whole home solution. Not looking back it was a good investment.

      They have asked me to delay my review. An embargo I don't understand. Some cool new features, but they do require one hell of a lot of CPU power. I think they're adding too much to the software, its losing focus, and they will have some returns because of it.

      No. Like many pieces of software today, they come out with a new features every year and it is not part of the upgrade path. Upgrades provide keep current the functionality as purchased. If you want new features and enhancements, you need to buy it again, which is why I prefer the 12month license to the forever license.

      @@JCRubio That happens when you screen record from Chrome or most other browsers. With Firefox that doesn't happen. That said, it's a pain in butt anyway, for example you really have to make sure all OS sounds are off or the movie will record with any blip and allert from the system and other software. It doesn't say "start", it says "starting...", like it's attempting to start, but hasn't yet. I'm 30 minutes into the movie, and the message is still there. There are rotating dots to the right of the message (Win10's equivalent to the older hourglass), a green Stop button, a grey Hide video button, and a full-screen button, along with Monitor volume slider. So far, Audials is terrible software. I purchased it, the 2023 version, it stops recording midway, it throws errors almost at the end of recrording it says error and didn't save anything. The things it does record, the audio is out of sync something awful. Promote it if you like but I'm not renewing this crappy software. I'm an IT tech person and have great computer build with 13700K and 2080 TI video card and this software so far doesn't work correctly or reliably. Beware!

      I have mixed opinions about these types of softwares. I’ve tried a couple with free trial licenses and they work exactly as you mention: a lot of interruptions and sometimes it cannot record some streams period. So far this one has given me a lot of hope for a better product and since you’re the only one I could find here with a negative review I think I’m gonna go and give it a try anyway.
