- Finding a good view in New York City is never a challenge, there are so many dramatic and interesting shapes in every direction that you look. I stayed near a historic building - the Ansonia in Verdi Square - Built in the Classic Parisian style in 1897. There was many great views - one that offered a view of the street along with some interesting public lighting, a cab or two, to make the scene more complete. These will be the characters of the painting and I will organize them around this idea of rain and how it affects the city.
The Watercolor Plan
Technically our strategy revolves around painting part of this work with very soft edges which would be in the nature of painting the city in rain. To counter this will use a few hard edges to create our focal point and make a watercolor plan based on a wet into wet approach for the buildings and the reflections..

There is so much magic going on here. I have no idea how those strange shapes turn into something amazing.
Thanks for your time and dedication Gary. I've taken this entire lesson on line and enjoyed it tremendously. I learned so much. Every artist wanting to improve in Watercolor would benefit!
Thanks Stephen - hope all is well and your painting continues to grow!
Stupendo!!
Thank you!
I’ve been trying to paint along with you and I learn so much every time. Thank you!
Great lesson, as always! These are always so helpful, thank you.
I love your timing of when to use wet into wet and the dry brush applications....awesome, saludos!
It is so useful to see you do these video demonstrations. Thank you
Thank you Gary! Mesmerizing and stimulating!! Best, Keizo
Grato por compartilhar seu talento!!!
wow!! I'm really Enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing dear painter!
I love it 😊
Wow,amazing !
I think that this was one of the first paintings I did in your virtual video class, and felt totally overwhelmed at the time because your talent made it look so easy. But for me it was not so easy. Now after having studied with you for a year and a half, I will try this again, becauseI have learned so much from you. We all appreciate your gifts and your willingness to share them.
Thanks Sarah - I am glad I could contribute - truly its your time in the studio - and commitment to painting - that makes the knowledge practical
just amazing😍
I never get tired of watching your painting process Gary. I’ve seen so many, but each time it’s a chance to revise what you’ve taught us about washes, shapes and edges. Today I realised it takes an artist like you to transform what seems like an alarming mess into a lovely painting that tells a story.
I’m now a little less afraid to cover the paper with strong wet paint as I know it fades so much. Thank you once again.
Thx Barbara - there is something special gained after many years and miles of paper… i dont think there is any other way
Thank you.
Wow 😯
Brilliant
Thanks a lot
I learned so much from you! I have applied everything I've learned and now my paintings are so much better technically and because of this I feel more inspired to paint more abstractly.
Jaime - thx for sharing your experience, it gives me momentum
@@GaryTuckerArtist I have a big problem with green , I can't get it quite like yours, nice and soft. Help?
🌹
I know ,he is best artistic.
Does anyone know what paper he uses? In another video, he put in the discription Saunders Waterford, but in the comment section someone asked him what paper he used and it was arches rough. I just bought Saunders rough, but I’m not seeing the same results…
That's a very steep angle to put the board.
Why do you do that?
Would that be more difficult to control the flow ?
I like to see the painting strait on - plus it is easier to film a this angle...

Am I confused, or there are some words missing at the beginning of the video?
