- Let me show you how to do a YZ450F oil change. People overlook how easy it is to do and how much money you can save. I've done mine for years and had great success preserving my motor and keeping me running ride after ride. Also, doing maintenance on your own bike is so rewarding!

Rotella changed it oil recently to meet EPA standards. I was a big fan but it is not good for a wet clutch

Where did you bought that blue drainplug on the bottom ? I cant find one for my 09, even in the oem partshop from yamaha.
It’s a zeta plug, can find it online and n eBay. Hope this helps.

Hello, you said the drainplug needs 14 lbs torque on it?. At 7:28.
But i read the Manual on my yzf 09 and it says 7,2 lbs.
Did you made a mistake or is it Right ? Im new to this and i try to compare your Videos to the manuals so i can do it By myself
14 lbs is correct for both left and right case halves. The 7.2 is for the drain bolt on the filter housing cover.
i did this exactly and now leaking from the oil filter cover. maybe new gaskets is good idea
Yeah, those orings get flattened out and won’t seal after a few times.
I changed the O rings and it still leaks oil you maybe know why?

It was the small o rings where the bolts are looool
@@cupofwater6760 yes, you have to replace all of them, not just the large one after a few filter changes.
Coolanol looks to be about the same price as Engine ice right now.... Prestone is a quarter of the price... besides the prices and the boiling points for coolants, whats the difference ?
I run the Coolanol due to the climate I live in, it freezes unexpectedly in Utah even in the early parts of fall. That being said, I ride into October-November and this gives me piece of mind that the Coolanol won’t freeze on the bike and crack the cases. Also, the Coolanol seems to be better than normal 50/50 and have less cavitation. It’s more oily than you normal Preston’s 50/50 if that makes sense. It is comparable in price to Engine Ice, but won’t freeze 🥶 hope this helps clarify.
@@DanMX2112 im riding my 2004 YZ 450 in Tahoe and it freezes but never stays that cold for long.. how do you check for cavitation? i would imagine with additional vapor within a coolant then it could boil at a lower temp but how would that effect negatively on its freezing point ? BTW thanks for getting all scientific ! :)
With the Coolanol being a bit more “oily” the instruduction to air bubbles happens less, a viscosity thing. Now I may be totally off, but this is my opinion based on experience. What I mean by cavitation is the ability for the liquid to be fed into the motor without bubbles and the ability for the bubbles to escape and allowing coolant in the passes. Seems to bleed off easier, and work smoother. Like I said, this is all my opinion and not gospel lol

Question, I just drained my oil in my 2010 yz 450f and put in the 1 quart that it’s supposed to have (from what the owners manual says). I notice that when I start the bike, the oil goes to the top of the sightglass and starts bubbling a little bit. Looks like air bubbles floating to the top. Do I have too much oil!? Need help!
The manual barely over a quart without a filter change. Now, after running the bike for a few minutes and shutting it off, it should show an oil level half way up the sight glass. If it fill the sight glass when not running, it’s over full.
What year is yours? Also this video helped me out a lot

I agree, 4 hours is perfect. 3-4 is what I go with depending on how hard I ride
I’ve learned over the years, after 4 hours my oil tends to darken a bit and then it’s time. Sometimes less of its just easy riding. Never go wrong with being preventative! Thanks for watching brother!
Hi, why didnt you use new crush washer?
I usually change it every few oil changes. I used too all the time but found no benefit after a single use.

Not sure what your meaning, but I’ve got 130 hrs on it with this oil and it’s clean and sound! Just did a top end and it was awesome inside!

I’m not sure, but, your bike has a sight window on the right hand side. After you change the oil, run the motor, shut it off, and it should sit between the 2 marks on your sight window after cooling down. But as for the correct amount, I’m not sure, and don’t rust any good search, check the forums! Thanks for watching!

Do a serial number check online. On the neck of the frame you will see the serial number. Easy man, and thanks for the comments, I love helping you guys!
What kind of socket to remove the filter housing? I'm afraid I'm about to strip mine with my 5MM hex socket.
It’s an 8mm 6 point/hex socket. Try to use 6 point so you don’t round off bolt heads! Hope this helps

@@DanMX2112 no I'm talking about the filter housing, Tusk makes a cool filter cover that comes with regular bolts instead of the Allen bolts that are easy to strip.
Ya, I have replaced mine since and forgot they were all Allen bolts, that’s why I was so confused. I’ve debated on that cover also, much nicer

4 hour oil changes preserve your motor the same amount as 8 or 10. Your just wasting money.
Everyone maintains them differently and that’s the beauty of doing it yourself. I also only pay $3.50 an oil change also so it’s only $7 every 2 changes anyways. Most people buy Honda or YamaLube oil at 8$ a quart and spend almost $20 per oil change. So I feel that I’m still ahead and doing well. Thanks for the comment and watching, I appreciate it!
Daniel Tucker I don’t buy yamalube or oil like that because they are just price gouging. I buy decent oil and do my changes every 8 hours. I change my oil filter every other time and I’ve never blown a bike up
Your maintenance schedule is great! way better than most bike owners, crazy how many bikes i see blown up due to oil changes, valve adjustments, and top end neglect. I think that 10 hr changes are fine, but after I cross the 4 hr mark I dump and fill, works for me, typically between 4-6. My clutch looks and feels new after 40-50 hrs also, but I’m pretty easy on it. Can’t go wrong.

Daniel Tucker I ride a 2012 YZ450F currently. I pretty much will never hit the rev limiter and I ride very smoothly just for fun. A lot of the riding is done on old logging roads so I can get to technical trails. My top ends will hold up for over 100 hours because of how strong the bikes are made. I just do preventative stuff early so it doesn’t detonate the engine, like changing my timing chain every 60 hours and replacing valves if I feel they are about to drop out of place.
