Good stuff. Im new to dirt bikes. Been riding street bikers for 37 years. I have alot to learn. Thank you for your instruction. GOD BLESS.
Glad to help, God bless you too Mark!
Very good video! I would like to add that making sure all the bolts are tight after every ride or two is just as important. That way your bike won't fall apart going 80 km/h like mine did haha
yes, that's a good point! thanks bro
Yes very true mine was loose too I find a bolt loose every time I ride I have old yz125 2003
Thank you so much! I'm the type of guy who would never take care of their bikes, but as I am getting a new bike I want to take care of it as much as possible, and this gave me the insight on how to do so.
yea, its good to give them some love, they really pay it back. :) thanks for comment!
Getting my first one in a couple of days. Great to know all the maintenance before hand.
Good luck!
Great video for a guy who bought his first enduro bike this friday! Thanks! 👌
Welcome to the club ;)
I just realized I havent checked my coolant in forever.. yikes
I haven't checked anything in forever 😕
thats the easiest part to do -.-
Fr I don’t even check the oil 😆

@@dirtniron Do you change the oil on the Yamaha WR 450 like that too? 4/6 hours?
Matt Perry In my opinion that’s too frequent if your not riding track
thanks
Looking into buying my first dirt bike so I definitely appreciate this video!! 🤙🏼
Thanks for your answer ! The reason why i don't mention the source of this study is that i fear they bend in the future under the economical pressure of filter manufacturers to come back on their statement. But one precision : oiled filter, yes, absolutely, but to what i understood from the different points of view i heard, i wouldn't hurry to clean it through too often, and that the feeling of dried-up oil-coating is rather positive. But there's also a difference between where you live (dry-desert-dusty landscape), and where i live and ride, barely dusty and regularly subject to rain. Thanks again.
Just subscribed. Very professionally made and informative video. Just got my first dirt bike a couple weeks ago and have only ridden it a handful of times. YZ125!
+Jack Major congrats bro and welcome on the board!
I needed this video to know what I may need for long distance rides
glad it helps!
Can’t beat the basics. Thank you 🙏
welcome Mike!
Awesome video man! These are great tips every dirt bike rider should know 😀
+Enduro Skills thanks man
Dirt N Iron Anytime bro, I just tell it like it is 😀 The putting a rad fan in is a great idea too, whenever my buddies on atvs come riding with us they go pretty slow and my kx450f was always overheating. My rads ended up getting damaged and I put in the oversized ones and they extra 40% capacity definitely helps out but the odd time on a hot day she'll still overheat so I think I'll look into putting a fan in. Was thinking of mounting a 6 cell 18650 lithium ion battery pack to run a led headlight so this is even more reason to do it lol
Thank you! I'm getting into riding soon, and this will help a lot!
thanks dude!
I breathe through my mouth when I run tho
Mouthbreather
That’s bad tho it dries out your mouth quicker making u more thirsty and feel more exhausted
Ha, he did the funny
Bro ..... Same
WOAH NO WAY
dude such a great video, keep it up and ride strong
thanks man!

Thanks Nathan, appreciate your feedback!
I ride a cheap bike so I maintenance frequently so this vid helped a lot! Thanks
welcome, good luck Logan! I ride cheap bikes too ;)
Dirt N Iron
Lol and with good maintenance a decent bike becomes a good one.
thanks. My friend told me to clean the filter after 15-20 hours of riding (2 stroke). He told me to clean it when chaging the oil lol.
Best tip is: Check it after every ride, if it's dirty, clean it. As simple as that.
First time seeing this video. Great video! Thank you. You look much younger, lol! Much less gray in the beard. Thanks much for all of the great vids, new and old, Dirt and Iron is one of my favorite channels. Thanks Brother!
Thanks for watching brother, appreciate it! Yea, I got old, lol ;)
Very helpful. Thank you.

Welcome!
I have a drz 250 and the air filter lasts ages I ride about 5 houres in weekend and it lasts about 8 week ends or longer.
That is soooo helpful. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
You know...im just getting a 125cc 2 stroke and this video is exactly what I need.
This was super helpful. Going dirtbike shopping tomorrow. Sub’d 👍🏻

Thanks a million bro
Solid video. I liked and subscribed!
Thanks for the sub, appreciate it!
Thanks bro. Helped alot
Glad it helped
Simple Green spray on your filter for 5 minutes wash off with hot water. K/N spray is the easiest and fastest to do your filter. And both of these methods are the fastest and the cheapest did you hear air filter
solid idol Dirt N Iron💪
Excellent video!
Thanks Vincent
Thanks for the great video! Helpful for my rmz250!!
glad it helps! thanks for comment Joey!
Great video man.
Glad you enjoyed it
Super helpful bro!
Glad to hear it!
This is easy. I'm more worried about re building top and bottom.. and valve check clearance.
thanks man great video!santiago from Costa Rica 💪
thanks Santiago! greetings to Costa Rica
Hey man can you make a video on how hours affect the bike engine
I use a Twin Air dust cover for my air filter and it keeps my filter clean for a fair amount of riding compared to not using one. They cost about 20 bucks and worth every penny.
+John Vlaho do you mean that skin that goes over the filter?
Running your bike too hot can warp cylinder heads and can/will also damage your water pump bearings and seals much faster in 2 stroke bikes
thanks man very helpful video very surprised that an air filter that can get dirty that fast
Glad it helped
Great video 👌
thanks Josiah!
love your videos man! when are you gonna make dirt n iron t shirts and hoodies or decals? I would def buy some!!!!
+Grimmace Thanks man! I might do some T-shirts and hoodies in the future. I like the idea.
K&n filters are a need.
Cross motorum yok ama severek izliyorum 👍👍👍
I haven’t clean my air filter in two years and it was black and I cleaned it today and my bike runs good now I put new spark plug and change the radiator now I need to put oil tomorrow and clean the carb
AMAZING
And like me with a stuffy nose my bike starts breathing through its mouth. Sadly this is catastrophic as the fuel injectors is where it eats from too.
The air filter....ahhh, it'll be alright. LOL
I have cleaned my air filter or changed oil in 1 year lol and it still runs fine but soon I’m gonna clean it change oil and tighten chain so it’s fine
I change the oil once a year... I dont really ride all that much tho sadly.
Great video man! Soon getting my first bike and my dad aswell, we knew nothing before starting to look into bikes and you have teached alot of good things! Very nice tutorials for beginners, could you make more videos for beginners and show how to maybe change piston on 4 stroke and more etc
Thanks man! Yes I will make more videos for beginners, I make "how to" as I go, whatever needs to be done on my bikes I film it, so there is lot more to come. Stay tuned my friend!
Dirt N Iron Thanks man, we will be getting 250 four strokes for both of us and my dad will be getting a 2007 honda crf250 for mostly enduro and me will get a more newer ktm 250 sxf for enduro and hopefully some mx track. I will be getting a newer bike becuase I feel like I will drive it more extreme than my dad so I will be getting a newer one, none of us have never sat on a dirt bike and my dad just drove last when he was 15 like my age. We are both very excited!
+LocalHS that's great dude, it is best father-son activity you can do, you guys will have great time together. I bet your dad is more excited than you, maybe he doesn't show it though. I am dad too, my son is 6 now, I can't imagine better vacation than cruising trails with my son. Great bike choices by the way.i plan to do some riding for beginners videos as well, hope you guys can use it. Stay safe and have fun.
Dirt N Iron Yes I am sure we will love it, so what do you think about the bikes, good choices?
LocalHS great bikes, it's good you are getting Japanese and European bike, you can compare it and know both worlds. KTM have hydraulic clutch, probably electric start and are usually quite light. you gonna love them both I think
that Rotella t oil is cheap and jaso ma recommend which is what you want and that's why I buy I buy it because I can! and it isn't expensive! great vid keep it up!
+Wyatt Fiske Thanks man!
I watched this and automatically bought a cheap 10$ air filter for my 09 kawasaki klx250s. I didnt know the air filters got dirty so quickly.
nice one
Im not shiting money !! change oil every 2 rides :(
thats why i use shell rotella, i buy 1 gallon which lasts for 5 oil changes, I pay around $3-4 for one oil change... and I am sure that my engine has good protection. there is plenty of guys who change their oil each ride, at least here in US.. those engines need to have new oil often, its very small amount of oil, it gets worn out quickly plus those small engines pumps a lot of power and high RPM..
Dirt N Iron im from Serbia, in my stupid country oil cost over 10$ that is why im saying that :)
Nikolicaaa - CSGO&More well, having to do a top or bottom end sooner might be more expensive
yeah iknow it costs 24$ where i am
I buy Rotella in 5 gallon pails from Walmart. Less than $70.
please do a video on how to clean and oil a air filter
here you go my friend: czcams.com/video/uDfWPFM28BE/video.html
Can I use Rotella for my ktm 2012 sxf 250?
What type of coolant do you all use
Cool vid man, have you looked into the electric bike test ride? Would love you see you rip on a quiet bike
+Chunka Lunka not yet, but I will contact them for sure. Thanks bro
Oh a yz250f 4 stroke is the type 2015 model
Cool video with some great tips. I just got a wr450f. About how many miles do you recommend for the first oil change and do recommend synthetic oil for the first time? The manual says 600 miles for general use and after break in for competition use. However, I dont know how many mile the break in period is.
I would follow the manual, thats always a safe way
Two questions about the oil…
1. the one in the video and the one in your link don’t appear to be the same, one is “T” and the other is “T4”…wondering if it makes a difference?
2. I have a 2004 Suzuki RM Z-250 that calls for 10W-40 and the one in the video is 15W-40…can I still use the oil you suggest or should I go w the 10W-40 like the manual says?
Your videos are awesome and super helpful! Thank you ❤
I use pro Honda oil 10w-30 for my crf250r
Sounds good!
Thanks for the tips they are really important I have a question I have a 2020 kawasaki kx250 what can kind of oil do you recommend for my bike
I use shell rotella 15w40 conventional
I have never changed my filter, oil and haven’t put oil to my dirt bike. My dirt bike is a crf 2006 150 f
Where do I find the type of oil for my 2007 ktm 450
Ktm exc 200 2015 should choose which type and how much viscosity level
Great video, how often should we do oil change and clean air filter on the TTR bikes?
It's the same with all 4 stroke bikes . The more dust & dirt the quicker you need to change air filter .
I have an air cooled bike so I’m good
are you crazy man i didn't change my oil for years and it runs great
Y A thats what i was thinking like 5-6 weeks change oil😳
Lil Ricky your supposed to change your oil every 10 hour rides
What's the Gatorade used for 🤔
great video. Any videos on how to keep an air cooled motor from getting so hot? what do you think about 4 stroke? thanks for any help
thanks bro, I like 4 strokes as well, they are great on track and right 4 stroke is really fun on the trails as well. If you run your bike lean it will tent to overheat, so make sure you have good mixture or maybe stay little more on a rich side. you need air flow to cool it down, so slow technical terrain will cause it to overheat..
Kaution Diaz Premix some gas at half of what two stroke oils recommend, I ran 85/1 today with an almost -50f difference in the head and in return the exhaust too
Could you do an oil change guide for your YZ-125 I'm new to dirt bike maintenance and could use a well made guide like your others.
yea, i can do 2 stroke oil change, they are all the same
Ive got a yammaha ttr230 its been sitting for a few months is there anything i should do before riding again?
How often should I do this maintenance? Every 600 km ?
How do you change transmission fluid
Do I have an air faulted on a fuel injected bike?
Can you do a video on replacing clutch cable on rmz450
I can, once I have need for it. let see..
Got 125 commuter change oil every 1k miles, costs barely anything, but it's worth it in my opinion.
Is that higher viscosity oil for diesel engines?
Hello I have a good question for you. I just bought a 2019 yz450fx and I love it. The only thing i want to do to it is put a little lighter fork oil in it to get the front end to settle in a little better for me. Weight wise I'm at 165 170 and it still feels a little busy in the rocks and higher speeds. Will this help.
I would play with the clickers first.. did you try?
@@dirtniron yes I did I'm at 17 clicks out on the compression and 18 out on the rebound and it feels pretty good I just want it to be a little more cush
I go like 25rides on an oil change and like 5 before checking the air filter
its possible, of course.. depends what kind of bike and what kind of riding. Frequent maintenance is cheap insurance. I like to keep my bikes well maintained, specially if they work very hard. for example for wr450 trail riding my oil change intervals would be longer than rmz450 which I use for MX only
Dirt N Iron I’m talking about a 4 stroke so I don’t know if that would really make a difference tho
That was one spicy meatball
not sure I follow..
Should have also added spark plugs, a 2 stroke goes through them pretty quick
Tide Pods I have 71 hours on my stock plug, newer bikes don’t really. If you foul out plugs you could be running rich, too much oil in your gas, or just not on the pipe enough.
I have a question that has been bothering me forever , So last time i ride my 2021 Kx 450 i cleaned it up well , oil change and cleaned and oiled my air filter too , I haven’t rode it in a few months , i keep it stored in my garage always , I was wondering from NOT riding my dirt bike in a few months does the air filter oil dry up over time on the air filter ??? thank you
No, the oil does not evaporate. Grtz
you should make a video about the other important periodic bike maintenance
+dmpeg yes I can make something like that. Any suggestions for topics?
Dirt N Iron grease bearings like swing arm, head bearing, wheel bearings, and such. Wheel bearing maybe not needed because it's a sealed bearing. But I don't really know, and that's the point, what are the others periodic maintenance needed for a dirt bike? I actuality was looking forward to know your opinion
Whats that box called that he put a air filler in
When I go riding I normally go for a day out riding with my mates like maybe some times a full day do I have to change my oil after every ride if I go out that long I got a 2005 crf450r
look at your oil when you change it, you dont want to have black oil, catch it right when the oil is starting to turn black.. depends on the riding and the bike, write down the hours and you will know what is that sweet spot.
How to solve the dhog dhog sound on front shock of dirt bike
Dirty air filter does not cause engine life problems. a dirty filter filters better than a clean one. think about it for a minute.
I'm not saying to leave it dirty but it doesn't hurt a thing... unless it's so clogged it causes performance issues but then again that doesn't really hurt the engine, just performance.
+Bill Malec I think once your sticky oil gets all saturated by dust, then it won't catch any more small particles going thru the foam and those small particles will scratch the cylinder and piston. That's how I see it.
Dirt N Iron wrong. why does the filter keep getting dirtier and dirtier then? because it sticks to the dirt. nothing is getting past the filter.
+Bill Malec yes the filter is getting dirtier all the time because there still are more particles caught on the filter, but can we say with certainty that 100% of those particles is caught once the filter is very dirty? I am not so confident in that. You might be right, either way it's good to clean it and let your engine breathe freely.
Dirt N Iron Ive only cleaned my filter once in the motors 800mile life @475miles, oils been changed three times, four spark plugs with three being the same gap and the newest one being around .013mm hotter of a gap, exhaust baffle drilled out to relieve some backpressure (its real with this motor having major idle hang) 142 dynojet m.j. 6th clip from bottom on the needle with the faster vacuum spring on. my usual riding area is anywhere from 2000'-7300' in altitude and I'll tell you the air filter doesnt make too much of a difference except for 1. protecting and 2. keeping air flowing. somehow mine only has two quarter sized dirt patches and a dime sized one imbetween those two. its been fun tuning a 2015 dr200... even though its a 4stroke I still add some premix at 75/1 when possible for the lil rev happy thumper. head temps been noticeably cooler premixing aswell, id recommend rubbing some bearing grease on the air inlet walls of the air box so dust thats caught in a turbulence isnt as likely to go straight in :)
Bill Malec actually your wrong I was missing my air filter it would die quick and it would run very very rich until I figured out the problem when I did I put another one and all of my problems were fixed I thought it'd be something so difficult lol
Can you please do a video on cleaning fork seals with the fork mate
I need to get one and do it, good suggestion
I just had to replace my fork seals. I wanna make sure to keep the second set in longer. Just to let u Know u do some of the most amazing dirtbike builds. I'm trying to get into doing all of that. I work on car and trucks and small engines but I love small engines more.
Hey my friend, I need some helping purchasing the right oil and the right weight. Im curious what oil and weight you would run in the following bikes: rmz450 and rm85.. Thanks!
hi Edward, I use 15W40 conventional for all my bikes, 4 stroke and 2 stroke
