    Nice video, so im new to dirt bikes. Ive rode harleys for yesrs but recently bought myself a 97 rm125 and i bought my son a four wheeler. I love to ride fast and hard but he doesnt, how can i ride with him without fouling plugs? I went through my carb tonight and found some issues im hoping this fixes it. I do have a stripped bolt on the reed cage but i used a seal all to cover it up good so i dont think im leaking there at all. The float height was was off on the bike or maybe i was reading it wrong. Ill know more tomorrow when i start it.

    Thank you for the video, going to do the checks.
    My 2018 KTM XCW300 has 90 hours, did a top end rebuild last year at 70 hours, cause we were going to ride in the winter (snowbike) and didn't want any headaches.
    It ran beautifully in snowbike mode.
    Now after 2 summer rides bike does not start anymore. I cleaned the carb, checked the reed it looked healthy but i will look again.
    Last ride, it started and idled perfectly, after 15-20 minutes of riding, bike dies.
    i Wait a minute, bike starts then runs for less time, same pattern 10-20 times, then the bike dies and won't start.
    Fully charged battery, cleaned carb, bike no longer starts. Spark plug is 1 ride old. Battery was new, now one ride old had to recharge the new battery after ride.
    I will check for leaks as you mention and I'll look at the reed again.
    If you have any other suggestions would appreciate it.
    Did the compression test and after 10-15 kick starter attempts I am getting 190, so I assume the compression is fine.
    Need to check the reed valve...

    • @knowmorestuff
      @knowmorestuff Před 3 lety

      Gear fluid and transmission fluid are the same for a 2stroke. Brake fluid should all be dot 4 or higher on most bikes. 2 strokes do not have oil like a 4 stroke. It lubricates with mixing the oil and gas. Ie: 32:1 or 40:1 etc. Transmission fluid on a 2 stroke should be changed more frequently especially if you ride hard and a lot. If you bike has oil injection, you don't need to use pre mixed gas. Just add regular gas and make sure the oil tank has 2 stroke oil in it and is topped up.

    Never, ever rev a cold engine. Most of all wear on a 2 stroke happens when it is below operating temp. I have never checked a reed valve or crank seal unless rebuilding the engine. Compression testing can vary greatly upon elevation, gauges and techniques.

    reed wear and crank seal leaks have nothing to do with compression issues. That's a horrible piece of advice to give, and a very good way to confuse people. If you have low compression on a 2 stroke, its due to worn piston/rings and/or cylinder bore wear. least likely is a head gasket leak. That's it.
