  • If you’re a professional arborist, a top handle chainsaw is the most essential part of your toolkit.
    But what do you need from your chainsaw? Here at STIHL, we offer 4 different arborist saws, including three petrol top handle chainsaws and one battery option. Let’s take a closer look at each model….
    The MS 151 T is our lightest top handle chainsaw, with the power unit weighing only 2.6kg. It also comes with a 2-MIX engine, and has a new piston, cylinder and exhaust design for optimum combustion. It gives you 10% more power and 15% more torque than the previous MS 150 TC-E chainsaw. Additionally, it also comes with STIHL ErgoStart technology which makes it incredibly easy to start and means it’s ideal for a range of tree maintenance tasks.
    Next up is the MS 194 T, a versatile, middle of the range arborist chainsaw that’s perfect for crown maintenance, deadwood and branch removal as well as taking down small trees. This model has 9% more power than the previous MS 193 T and combined with the quarter-inch Picco micro 3 saw chain, this provides a greatly improved cutting performance.
    The most powerful top handle chainsaw in the range is the MS 201 T. This model comes fitted with a new version of our M-Tronic technology as standard, resulting in optimum engine performance right from the word go! It’s also incredibly easy to reset should you need to.
    On all of the petrol top handle chainsaws, the captive nut on the sprocket cover allows for quick changing of the chain. The lightweight guide bars reduce the overall weight and keep the chainsaws perfectly balanced. They also include the innovative STIHL anti-vibration system which ensures they are comfortable to use over a longer period of time.
    The last model is the battery-powered MSA 161 T. If you’re working in residential or noise-sensitive areas, or want to be able to communicate better with your team on the ground, this powerful cordless chainsaw is a great arborist saw in the STIHL range. Powered by a 36V Lithium-Ion AP battery, it’s so quiet you won’t need to wear ear defenders! It’s also lightweight, with low vibrations and zero emissions during use. The MSA 161 T is part of the STIHL AP System of cordless tools. It uses an intelligent electronic system, that gives you consistent performance whether the battery is fully charged or just about to run out, just like a petrol chainsaw. Using the recommended AP 200 battery for optimum balance, the new chainsaw gives you an impressive working time of up to 42 minutes on a single charge.
    As you can see, we have options to suit everybody when it comes to our range of arborist chainsaws. Just visit your nearest STIHL approved dealer for more information: shop.stihl.co.uk/pages/dealer...

    If im wanting one for occasional pruning and small jobs which would be the best suited?
    Would the battery version or the 151 petrol be more suited?

      Hi Matt, for occasional small jobs on the ground we'd recommend a back handled machine such as the MSA 160 C-B. If you're a qualified arborist working at height, the MSA 161 T is a good alternative to the MS 151 T and is well suited to small jobs. Thanks, STIHL GB.

      @@STIHLGBHi there thanks for your reply.
      I already have the msa200 chainsaw for small jobs on the ground but was wondering about the 161t being top handle ideal for small ground pruning etc if that makes sense.

      @@mattseymour8637 Hi Matt, we do not recommend using any top handled saw on the ground due to the higher risk of kickback occurring. Top handled saws are only for use in tree surgery work and cutting in the crown of standing trees. Thanks, STIHL GB.

      @@STIHLGBThanks for the advice and I did hear about this.
      Why is there more kickback on top handle saws?

    • @STIHLGB
      @STIHLGB  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi @@mattseymour8637 on a top handled saw the two handles are close together, meaning in the event of kickback it is harder to control the chainsaw. Rear handled chainsaws offer greater control as the handles are further apart. Thanks, STIHL GB.
