That's because they are ultra grunts. Ultras throw grenades a lot and are among the most talented unngoy. Grunt minors and majors wouldn't have thrown this many grenades.

i know this is 2 years late but the AI is too stupid to properly kill a Scarab (usually you have to shoot the core and get away) i don't know if they even attack a Scarab to begin with..
I remember watching the halo ce Ai battles as a kid and I just got a good job so I think my first purchase is going to be a desktop and I'll try to learn how to do stuff like this I would literally spend hours watching AIS fight lmao.

I think that kind of checks out with Legendary campaign issues. Grunts are enormously dangerous because they are Plasma Grenade dispensers. I wonder if a single Elite or Brute added to these encounters would change who wins at all. The grunts have certain things they do (ie. double Plasma Grenade suicide) when their squad leader dies.
You know, I've always wanted Firefight to be with eventual Flood invasion. Every now and then some dispersal pods arrive and the bodies fuel the army... The round's last remaining Covenant forces desperately trying to survive the massive wave of their own dead whilst still fighting the ODST/Spartan squad. Then the game is on: "Rise up and I shall kill you -- again and again!”
I wish the original games would actually just add a forge mode in where you can spawn AI and give them whatever traits you want and actually give you the tools to create your own maps and missions :P

THe reason why is because it would be epic and show what halo 3 would be like if the elites were still humanity's enemies in the game. We could have 1-5 marine with assualt and battle rifles vs 1-5 elites with plasma rifles for the first rounds. Then for the next 5 rounds start giving some elites needlers and carbines. Also start giving some marines careless sub-machine guns. By round 10 there could be three sword elites plus elites with carbines, needlers, and plasma rifles vs marines with shot guns, battle rifles, sub-machine guns, and assault rifles. By the last round there could be two elites with fuel rod guns plus three with energy swords vs three marine snipers and two with rocket launchers.
Halo 2 Scarab was physically immortal unless you destroyed it on the inside. Halo 2 Scarab wins by default because of the very small size of its Achilles Heel

Grunts do have a grenade advantage.
It would be better to have an Elite/Brute around so the Grunts wouldn't run like crazy.
