Mr. Rose, as a lifetime Phillies fan, I will always appreciate your love of the game. Your get down and dirty style of play is what entered me to you and players like Larry Bowa and Chase Utley. I found myself smiling through the entire interview and can only wish for the return of the 70,s & 80’s style of baseball. I appreciate that you admit to making mistakes as we have all done in one way or another, but remain an ambassador of baseball. If we can forgive the spouse beaters, it’s high time we let things like your mistakes go.

Betting on baseball is big business in 2022. David Ortiz is the face of some of the most recent betting ads I have seen. Back in the day , Mays & Mantle were suspended from baseball for signing autographs in a casino . Why is Rose not in the HOF at this point

Most of the team for the 1993 Phillies were using steroids. Lenny dykstra Darren Dalton I was born in Philadelphia am a big Phillies fan. When I found out that they are definitely using drugs to help them play better. I believe that team should have everything they did taken away. It's cheating anyway I looked at it it's cheating nobody has to agree but I believe it's not right to the other teams playing the right way.

Pete Rose was the missing gear the Phillies needed to get over the hump and win the World Series. I’ll never forget that Series, but also the NL Playoffs against the Houston Astros - that was an awesome series too. “People don’t serve 37 years in Prison.” C’mon Commish - it’s time to let Pete into the HOF. He doesn’t have many years left.

When most people think of Pete,they think of his hits,his hustle,and his hardships. But,even at 81,his intelligence still shines through. I especially like his comments on not running out ground balls,pitch counts,pitching changes,and especially the ridiculous length of today's games.
Of all the people I can think of (besides maybe my Dad), that I would love to have ONE day to just "talk baseball" with? It would be PETE ROSE.
The man has a mind like a steel trap. Pete WAS Baseball. BLED Baseball. And he remembers NAMES that we all have forgotten.
The common misconception of his personality, was that "he was all about himself". Absolutely NO WAY. He was all about WINNING, WHATEVER IT TOOK. 100%+ every night.
And this interview is FASCINATING to simply here PETE ROSE (one of the GREATEST of all time) remember and give credit to the names: Dallas Green, Larry Bowa, Larry Christiansen, Garry Maddox, Bill Virdon, Danny Ozark...etc, etc.
And PETE knew how great he was. He knew he was the best and was THE PRIME REASON why "The Big Red Machine" WAS "The Big Red Machine". Period. (Without Pete Rose? Cincinnati would have NEVER gotten past either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia, back in the 1970s.)
Pete Rose WAS the key to both the great Reds teams...and (without him in 1980, Philly? Ya don't win that World Series).
But what is amazing here most, is that (after MLB has kicked him around for decades. Yes, he is a flawed man. Yep, he screwed up in life. (Hell...who doesn't?)...but Rose STILL LOVES THE GAME. I mean really...WHERE ELSE are you ever going to hear the names "Larry Christiansen or Bob Boone" in an interview that was supposed to be about PETE ROSE?)
BUT...(and it took me a while to understand this about him...as Pete Rose WAS the player we...as a lifelong suffering PIRATES Fan for 50 years...LOVED to HATE, when he came to Pittsburgh. Probably because he could BEAT YOUR TEAM...ALL BY HIMSELF, and he KNEW it. Yet...Pete Rose...in EVERY SINGLE INTERVIEW, I have ever heard with him? Always PRAISES OTHERS...FIRST. ALWAYS.
Greatness appreciates greatness. And Pete KNEW who was great and who wasn't.
But when he mentioned how he never wanted to leave Cincinnati (as that IS his home. Cincinnati is NOT Cincinnati without PETE ROSE. Period).
But he mentioned how he "interviewed with John Galbreath. Then-owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates!" (And man did that bring back the memories. And some tears too)
Yes...Pete Rose ALMOST became a Pittsburgh Pirate. (And he should have. Tanner was easy to play for, and Stargell was aging rapidly at that point, and Rose could EASILY have taken over at 1B for the Bucs and probably escaped the fiasco that was the ENTIRE 1980s for the Pirates).
The dumb Galbreaths (yes...Pirates Ownership has ALWAYS been stupid...offered PETE ROSE...Race Horses. This is a FACT).
Pay the man 1 Mil, and the Pirates win, not only in 1979, but in 1980 and probably 1981.
They KEEP Blyleven, Parker, Madlock, etc PLUS Pete Rose...and voila! The Pirates are NOT the total mess they are since.

(The reporter was OBVIOUSLY fishing to see if Rose would say "of course...me". Because "reporters" sucked back then, too"
Rose could have said ROBERTO CLEMENTE, HANK AARON, WILLIE MAYS, JUAN MARICHAL, STEVE CARLTON, etc...as ROSE played against the greatest of ALL time. For years.
In TWO SECONDS FLAT? Pete Rose tells the reporter..."DAVE PARKER...best I ever saw".
Without batting an eye...Rose blurts out "DAVE...PARKER". (Who at THAT time...was also a Pirate. Being badgered and belittled and abused, by media hacks. And whom just 5 years later? Was RESURRECTING his career (after throwing away 3 years of it on the moribund Pirates)...with the REDS (with Pete Rose as his Manager).
Greatness understands Greatness. Period.
And Parker...ANOTHER one to this day virtually "blacklisted by Baseball" and whom had to follow in the shadow OF Roberto Clemente (the greatest RF of All Time), and withstood abuse...and STILL played baseball with a broken face and a hockey mask on...led a team (whose fan base threw batteries and bullets AT him) to a World Series.
Sound familiar? Rose LOVED Parker. Rose LOVED Barry Larkin and Eric Davis too. (To which, it was PARKER who...as a Red...took both under his wing and set them STRAIGHT, as Larkin was a mess in his younger years and Davis was a hothead. Parker respected Rose, and Rose respected Parker. To the point where their LIFE STORIES (the gambling crap aside)...run so parallel, that it is shocking that people like Johnny Bench or any HOF voter can look at themselves...in a mirror and say "they are justified, in taking a knee to that moron Manfred"...and keep either out of the HOF.
To keep PETE ROSE...out of the Hall Of Fame? Is a sick travesty of the total JOKE that the Hall Of Fame (Scott Rolen? Harold Baines? Bobby Doerr? Really??) Has become.
The HOF is a shrine for BASEBALL GREATNESS. Not a museum for Popes.
Until ROSE, CLEMENS, BONDS, SHOELESS JOE, etc are IN IT? Then the whole thing is a "popularity Prom King or Queen" voting sham.

@@Frank_Cohen He's publicly admitted and apologized to gambling on games. That is the definition of taking accountability for your actions.. duh. He also served time in prison due to tax evasion shortly after being suspended from baseball(not reporting his earnings from gambiling.) When Rose was banned from baseball their was a stipulation that he would be able to file for reinstatement after one year and it's been almost 40 years now. He gambled on these games as a manager and not as a player. Steroid era guys are going to eventually get voted in the Hall Of Fame. Rose deserves to be on the Hall of Fame ballot before he is no longer with us. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.

Why would he consent to that? So he has not been held accountable by himself or anyone else. He released enough nuggets to profit handsomely from his book. For 13 years exactly, until pre-release promotion of his book, he never wavered in his denial that he bet on baseball. Again, pure financial gain for his admissions. Comparing gambling and steroids is a fallacy committed so broadly that it's a collective indictment of fans' critical thinking skills. Nice try with your whitewash though..

MLB makes more off betting and robbing players like Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantel and hundreds more.
