- Day 3 was our first port, Kirkwall in Orkney. We ate our meals in the Borough Market and Buckingham Restaurant and we start to question if we have chosen the best dining sitting. We also went to see a fantastic show performed by the onboard team in the Palladium Theatre. We visited the town in the morning and walked around some of the historic sights. In the afternoon we went on an organised excursion, this was gifted to us by Ambassador Cruise Line. We visited the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae and Skaill House and we blown away by what we found.

Ambassador is Britains newest cruise line and we took the opportunity to sail with them in April 2023.Ambassador market themselves as Britain’s premium value no-fly cruise line who sail from 8 regional UK ports. Ambassador Ambience sailed around the British Isles and we were onboard for 11 nights. Ambassador Cruise Line currently has two ships in operation Ambience and Ambition.
We are Tom and Dom and we experienced our first cruise on the MSC Virtuosa during her UK staycation cruises in 2021. We are relatively new to cruising, however we can now say we are officially hooked.
Our mission is provide a fair and balanced review of our travels. We look at the types of food that is available onboard, from main dining rooms, room service, buffets and pool side snacks. We include menus for each of cruises so that we can share the selection of drinks and meals that are available. Entertainment onboard a cruise ship is important to us and we enjoy theatre production shows, live music, quizzes and game shows. We love to explore different ports and destinations and enjoy sharing tips and tricks so that you can make the most of each port. We often explore ports independently but also book excursions that are interesting to us.
We have created a list of our cruise essentials. These are items we take with us when we travel and we hope they may be useful to you. We have also added a Wine list which contains some of the wines we have tried whilst cruising.

Today it is 8 a.m. over breakfast and previously have viewed over other dining times. We have watched another one of the Ambience series, you both have excellently made together for viewing. They have been so informative before we are to travel with Ambassador on Ambience for the first time. You have given a thorough A-Z of the ship, various important information eg transfer time and local free bus service, along with important details of toilet facilities being available on tours, also how the ship manages in rough weather to cope with the sea and ship motion. Likewise to know possible problems to be aware of eg finding a table for breakfast or certain smaller bars for shows in the evening. It is good to have a balanced review, but also give the plus and minus for each viewer to then make adjustments accordingly on board or consider if this ship or company is to their liking before booking a cruise , with whoever you are reviewing. It is also beneficial to anyone considering cruising for the first time, knowing all the pre cruise procedures, boarding, disembarkation and daily life. You may wish to put further information on regarding any cruise company for solo or disability travellers. One thing that came across reviewing Ambience for guests using a wheelchair or walking frame for them to consider that you informed, is that lifts can be prone to break down to make life on board challenging.
This Orkney review was beneficial as you incorporated tour information and how to access Kirkwall for a DIY tour and attractions to visit or unable to visit due to closure. We shall look for your reviews on other companies we have not travelled on, for your honest opinion prior to contemplating travelling with some new to us.
We have viewed other reviewers who have not been anywhere near as detailed and well presented as yourselves to inform your travel audience information. So, thank you both for being very personable, and we look forward to viewing previous reviews and new companies to us. Also, look at the locations you portray and not just about the ship experience alone. As the variety of places being visited is the ultimate aim of cruising. An enjoyable series of reviews on the British Isles with the added bonus now a year later, from 2024 for a number of years to come, Ambassador now have selective cruises with the organisation Orca on board to enhance the possible opportunity to see mammals around our UK Islands while cruising. We now look forward to our future cruise with Ambassador from your reviews, thank you both.

Thansk for the video. With fixed-time dining, you always miss out on something. We've done early and late and neither is good nor bad. We found with the early sitting that we could never fit in afternoon tea, pointless if we were on Cunard. But then eating early meant we never went to bed feeling stuffed or had indigestion. Whereas eating late, we could indulge in a few snacks, but we felt we had to stay up later than we wanted to just so the dinner has a chance to go down. I don't know how you two can fit in more snacks ast 11:00!! 😬
We enjoyed our visit to Kirkwall, but we never got to Scara Brae. We booked that tour with two different cruise lines and both cancelled it. It was soon after the lockdown, so perhaps capacity limits were still in place.
We were on the Iona recently, so it will be nice to see what it is like to cruise in a small, and older, ship. We're thinking about the Northern Light cruise at the end of 2024.

I always found if you avoided the busy times there were no ques and plenty of places to sit .If you wish to get something more from the buffet just leave a hat ,bag, or sunglasses on the table to show you are still using the table. Evening snacks are brought around to all the venues at about 11 pm. Keep up the good work lads.

Went on Celebrity with dining at 6.30. We only went to dining room twice because ship often left port around 7pm so we went to the buffet Instead and found an outdoor area at back of ship where we could eat away from cold air conditioning in buffet. Sorted!

I’m booked on the half world on the 6th January, solo traveller , I’ve elected to sit at a large table but would you recommend the first sitting? Great videos guys, I’m finding this very helpful as it will be my first cruise.
Shared table is perfect for a solo as it’s a great way to meet new people. We would say early sitting is better if you want to catch all the evening entertainment but could mean a rush if you are late back to the ship from a port excursion.
How easy was it to get a table for 2? Would you go for first or second sitting? We've cruised with Marella previously, how does this compare?
Not easy to get a table for 2. Tables get allocated but we would recommend speaking to the restaurant manager asap after you board. Entertainment similar Marella although the passenger age does seem a little older
Can you change your dining time each day? or once you pick do you have to stick to that time, just thinking if we're on an excursion that day are we going to miss eating if we pick 6pm.
You are assigned for the duration of the cruise but on an occasion we are sure they would be able to accommodate you
Is there a reason you don't mention the cost of anything you have paid for, for the trip in terms of the cabin, drinks package or excursions?
Thanks for your comment! 😀 We tend not to talk about costs because they change too often. For example Ambassador’s drinks package increases from tomorrow and that would mean our content is giving incorrect information. For Ambassador we paid just under £100 each, per day for the cruise and that also included there top drinks package! 😀
@@TomandDomTravel OK I think it's ok to say prices as at x date. Also maybe say how much excursion costs pp were and whether they were worth while, as noted you made your own arrangements in Belfast rather than take the ship provided excursion and having seen you do that v the price Ambassador charge we will replicate your route/method I. E you can do X or Y maybe and the benefit v cost.
You make a good point. We will try and include more pricing where we can on future cruises
