  • The two best quality and quality v price watches that I've handled put side by side.
    Thank you so much for WATCHing my video and I hope that you check out all my other content.
    I release 3 videos per week, all watch related, including reviews, first impressions and general watch related topics.
    I try very hard to diversify my content as well and will feature big known watch brands, microbrands as well as Aliexpress watches.
    The majority of the watches I feature are in the affordable range but I do try and get some less affordable watches as well.
    Most of the watches that I feature I have bought with my own money. I buy them to enjoy and wear but I also to feature them on this channel.
    Being a smaller channel it is challenging to cover the cost of all the watches that I buy and partly because of this I have become an affiliate member with a number of companies including Aliexpress, Ashford.com and Jomashop.
    If you are looking for watches from well known brands then it is worth checking out:
    www.ashford.com
    www.jomashop.com
    As an affiliate member I may leave affiliate links in the descriptions of videos. These links will direct you to the watches that I’ve experienced, reviewed and would certainly recommend. If you choose to use those links I will earn a very small commission.
    Thank you very much if you choose to use those links.
    Below are affiliate links for my absolute favorite watches on Aliexpress. Each of them I have owned and had positive experiences with the stores that they are linked to.

    I bought the same CW 300 and its indeed an awesome watch. As far as the comparison there isn't much to compare in my eyes. The CW is much more established brand , well known and highly regarded in the watch community, overall package and 5 year warranty is unheard of in this price range. The ginault as nice as it is there is not much thought as far as design originality. Clear winner in my eyes

  • @Dirtywesterner
    @Dirtywesterner Před 11 měsíci +5

    I think the originality of the Ward trumps the ginault's adherence to all things submariner. From 5 feet away the Ginault IS a submariner more so than most homages. My other gripe with the Ginault is the redudant text , but I still like it;the Ward isn't as obviously "borrowing" or homaging and therefore the superior watch, I just saw your points and I agree with you in terms of which one comes out on top. I like to think of homages in terms of risk to the wearer- if it's inviting a scuffle and someone trying to grab it , it's venturing into replica territory , which is obviously the next rung down on the descent into madness
    Thank you for another great video, I am contemplating the real submariner and the Ginault occupies a small part of the equation for me

    Definitely the correct decision 👍 . I'm not a fan of the sub, but well done to Ginault for changing the hands, but why did they have to copy the ridiculous amount of text on the dial?

    James watched this a while ago with a keen interest but have only recently been able to do a comparison myself (actually C60 300 vs Silent Service). And your assessment was really good - firstly, these are both excellent watches in terms of quality for the price. Like you I land in a similar place in that you have to rank the CW higher on design and originality but there is very little to separate them purely on quality.
    I can’t think of much else that comes close in this price bracket, only wish there was! V best

  • @thegorn
    @thegorn Před 11 měsíci +3

    They are both fantastic and about equal in my view. Love them both. The things I would change on the CW is to add some chamfering on the clasp edges so it's not so sharp and scratchy. I would also make the indices just a little bit shorter and wider, but not by much. Somewhere inbetween what they are now, and the square shape of the Pelagos indices. But yeah both of these things are nitpicking. Really great pieces.

    @Gary-li7ib Před 10 měsíci +2

    Thanks so much for this video, it's extremely useful. I currently own the same CW as yours and really like it but I sometimes feel that the large dial opening and thinner bezel makes it wear a bit bigger (I even have the same wrist as you) so was great to see them side by side. I really like the proportions of the Ginault as the dial is slightly smaller and the bezel slightly wider. I'm not sure if you had the OR1 or OR2 here but they have an OR2 which has a black dial and a blue bezel, no date which is an absolute stunner and one I'm seriously considering selling my CW for and picking up.

  • @seanhickling7340

    I personally think that unless you have an absolutely insane movement in a piece (or the Sea-Gull of course) then exhibition casebacks are unnecessary. Most of the time all you can see is the automatic rotor with just brief glimpses of actual automation. Completely unnecessary in my opinion. I'd much rather a nicely detailed solid caseback.
    Regarding looks; to me the bezel on the CW is far too thin. It really reminds me of the Casio Duro with how that models dial dimensions and spacing just doesn't look quite right.

  • @wolfaja755
    @wolfaja755 Před 7 měsíci +1

    To note the cw ceramic on the bezel is a composite of lab made diamond and ceramic. This means the bezel is harder and less likely to take large amounts of damage. Taking this in note I’d say they should both take a check on the bezel just for the lack of Indentation being made up for the durability of the bezel.

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I was not aware of that. Wow. Another amazing thing from the brand.

  • @brianmsahin
    @brianmsahin Před 11 měsíci +2

    Excellent video James, both are very nice watches. I should say I also own this Christopher Ward so maybe I could be accused of bias. Probably the main difference for me is that the CW is a unique design. You can find a decent enough Ali Express watch that looks like the Ginault. It's only a personal opinion, but anything that looks like a Rolex from afar but isn't one, it's not for me. However if you don't mind that it's a good watch. Given both being the same price, it's CW all the way. As well as brand, if you added a design column, the CW would get a tick and the Ginault would get a cross. Thanks for the comparison! Lol. I was writing before the video came to an end and I see you DID add a design column! 😂

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před 11 měsíci +2

    Hi james great video thanks for doing a video on mid priced watches really good have not heard of ginault will look them up now it will be interesting to compare to my Rolex but from the video the quality looks very good.im with you though Christopher ward on this comparison as it's not a homage. Have you compared the ginault to the stinhart? I do own two stinharts because the smallest watch I can wear is 42mm and most Rolex are 41mm and can get the same style watch I 44mm.thanks John

    I think really its just subjective, they are both good quality, i dont care about the caseback,i never really really look at it, as long as the comfort is good, i am happy. I think i would choose the CW as i think the case looks a little more compact and the hands are a little less common, but i think thats a personal choice and not a slight against the Ginault, they both look like fine watches.

    Someone mentioned adding chamfering to the clasp of the CW because it's sharp. I don't find it sharp but adding that to the clasp AND bracelet is the only thing i would change on the CW. It's one of the things i love about the Zelos Mako bracelet. I do love my white dial version of your CW. It really is amazing. Great review James.

    The best part of this review is that it does not use a timegrapher or any other measure of accuracy when comparing 2 watches using same movement, for example to test the claims made by Ginault. Most of his reviews boil down to 7 seconds or less. Here's the essence of this video: "I prefer CW over Ginault. Why? I don't really know, I just like it better, because CW is better. Thanks for watching." Now that's what I call a great review and a helpful opinion.

    You cant compare an homage watch to an original piece, its not the same thing. The Ginault is a Sub with a Yacht Master colored second hand and an Omega sword hand hour hand. There is literally nothing unique in it. They havent created anything here but a copy paste parts bin cash grab. The CW is not exactly mind blowingly original, but its a clean looking original design. CW had to design this the hard way by releasing nothing but ugly watches for a long time to reach their current level of success. Meanwhile the Ginault looks like a franken

    • @WATCHingJames
      @WATCHingJames  Před 9 měsíci +1
