  • Here is an ingenious way to repair broken plastic using a soldering iron to weld the plastic together. With this plastic welding method it is a much more effective and durable than repairing using super glue and baking soda.

    Very nice showing the different options you can use for reenforcement like a paper clip, or even some thin copper wire strands. I know that some people use staples or metal screening/mesh but I didn't even think of these here! 👍👍

      @@spectre5982 It might be tough because of the small surface area, the thin round stem, and the amount of force that high winds can place on an umbrella. You can try it but it just might be better to scrap it and buy a new umbrella.

    You can also use metal mesh used to repair fiberglass for cracks at any autozone

    You may consider getting a metal paint tray. Good vid for general plastic repair though.

    In other words, use small bits of metal as the thatching/heat conductor and use zip ties as the solder/tar to finish the seal.

    It’s really about tips for repairing anything plastic. Paint tray are pretty cheap.

    £1.50 buys a new tray or £3 to repair it😂. I've used melted zip ties, plastic coffee spoons and straws for repairing automotive plastics since the late 80's, cheap and ingenious repairs👍🏻

    In order for this to work you must use the same type of plastic for it to bond correctly the zip tie used in the demonstration is made of nylon like they all are the paint tray was more than likely HDPE or PP poly propylene.

    Great fix-it video for plastic repair. I had one thought on the section using the "spring rings / plastic topping. Same procedure on the "inside" of the cover would leave the outside of the cover possibly "smoother" finish for later paint, etc - use plastic filler only on outside, then sand / paint. Again, great ideas on your end. Thanks!!

    When repairing a small crack, why would any metal reinforcement be necessary if the plastics have been thoroughly fused?

    Awesome and innovative ways to repair plastic, and glad you showed how to do it if one doesn't have a soldering iron or spare pieces of metal or plastic to work with (paperclips are easy to find)! Still, this video's a great incentive to invest in some tools.

    Those nylon zip ties will flake right off when melting like that. Easier to use plumbers abs cement and shavings from a pvc pipe to create stronger sealing/filling material like with saw dust and wood glue.

      yes my bikes chain guard, which is similar like a mud guard, has also cracked apart. which way did u use to fix it? just zip ties and a lighter or did u use some metals?

    My cars side footrest got broken ... it was all alumnium with end plastic Head..
    This plastic so hard but crack easily..

    I wrao fine wire around a pencil and remove. I then squash flat to priduce a long spiral.
